Mixed Media Monday

Hey everyone, Kim here. I'm back today sharing my project I made with the April mixed media kit. If you didn't know, our mixed media kits always come with a project so you can start playing with your mediums as soon as you open the box.

Here is the April kit:

Here is what I created with the kit:

This is a cute little inspirational canvas. I just had fun using the mediums to create this.

How about some close-ups?

Here is probably where you get the best look at all the mediums used. First, I used the stencil and the opaque crackle paste on the corners of the canvas. Then, again with the stencil I used the glitter paste randomly. Next was the stencil and my embossing ink dabber. I dotted it thru an image on the stencil and them sprinkled the embossing powder on and heat set. These techniques overlap each other in places.
Once all those elements were dry, I sprayed the canvas with the distress oxide spray. I then took a paint brush and spread the distress oxide all over the canvas. While it was still wet, I used a damp wet wipe to blot. That's how I got the random depth of color. Then I used my heat gun to dry.
Once dry, you could see the cracks from the crackle paste. The other mediums served as a resist and didn't change colors from the spray. The gold splatters are from the Lindy's that was in the March mixed media kit . Remember, with this kit we are building our stash of mediums to keep using.
I also used the Lindy's from last month to color the center of my flowers. I misted the flowers with water before I applied the Lindy's and after to get the color to bleed outward.

I did the same technique on the flowers at the top, I just used a different color (I used a bit too much water on these and the color ran a bit more than intended).

Overall, I really like how my cute little project turned out. It was really more about using the products and trying different techniques. I like how all the mediums layered well together. Did you get this kit? If so, show us your project in our Facebook Cafe. If not, you better head on over to the store and grab one. There are only a couple left before they are sold out.
