Remember Layout with Rae

Happy Saturday!

Today I am sharing the last layout I made with the June kit.  And, I challenged myself to not use my paper distresser, which I rarely do. But, sometimes I really enjoy the look of sharp edges, and I thought the different patterns of the Prima Marketing and 13 Arts papers would look nice just inked with black chalk ink. I love the muted colors of these papers so much and I thought it would be nice to add some contrast the contrast of adding black, paired with a black and white photo. Here’s the result:

Here’s a closeup of the edges of the papers that I heavily added chalk ink to. And, you can see the beautiful black lace from the kit peeking out between some of the layers.

Under my photo I added a few different layers of items: I did a bunch of fussy cutting of the Prima Marketing paper that had the pink roses, and I also did the same thing on some of the 13 Arts papers with flowers as well. The pink Prima Marketing flowers from the kit match papers perfectly!

I did add a couple of things from my stash- some bluish-green flowers to coordinate with the papers, and also some chipboard that is a quatrefoil that I added some black and gold embossing powders to.

For balance of the design, I added an embellishment cluster at the bottom left of the layout. I added some resin feathers, pink roses, Creative Embellishments berry chipboard, all from the kit, and I added more of the blue flowers and chipboard from my stash.

June Sketch Layout with Ginny

Hello everyone!

Ginny here with you today, to share with you my sketch layout for the challenge this month here at Tres Jolie!

Here is the sketch:

Dont you agree it’s a gorgeous sketch to get the inspiration going? Carry on reading further down this blog post for details on how you can enter this months challenge.

Here is my interpretation of the sketch

Photo Tutorial

I have done a step by step photo tutorial of my process making this layout.

I chose my backing papers, this one – Misty Foils.

and this one – The Good news.

After trimming 1cm off from round all sides of the paper, I then heavily distressed it – to the point some of you will think I’ve torn it!

Layer this paper up on top of the ‘The Good News’ paper

I cut some small pieces of the lace, about 1 1/2″ and slotted them into the bigger gaps/tears round the edges of the top background paper. This is a cheat, it makes it look like there is a border of lace in between the background papers but saves you on the amount of lace used so you loads more lace for another project!

I used the chipboard piece, I painted it first with gesso and then when dry I heat embossed it with a white and silver embossing powder.

I placed my photo through the chipboard oval and glued it on the layout.

I cut a piece of the beautiful lace to fit the length of my top background paper and glued into position. I splatted the background with some drops of one of the alcohol inks from the Mixed Media kit.

I added a doily behind the photo and chipboard on the left.

I then used the pack of gorgeous pink paper roses ( I loved the leaves in this too)

I made an arrangement round the bottom left side of the photo/frame…

and a smaller one round the top right of the photo/frame

I bent the curled wires into a rounded shape

and added them into the flower clusters

I love these Shabby Chic Garden Treasures and used the ladder and the watering can in this layout.

I added the watering can to the left side of the layout, tucking it underneath some of the leaves.

Now for the little details… the microspheres I dropped into some gel medium dotted around the layout

I  tucked in some dusky red twine tied into bows into the flower clusters.

Lastly as sometimes happens when I design a page I start of not using texture paste and stencils and then by the end I decide I want to use it! This was one of those layouts, so at this point I then added patches of stencilling around the design.

Last thing on the layout was some random stamping with black distress ink. I think it just adds a bit more detail and depth to the background of the layout and makes the layout ‘pop’ .

And voila! a finished layout.

Fancy having a go yourself with the sketch?

So here is how to enter this months sketch challenge…

June Kit Sketch Challenge By Heather Thompson

Happy Memories

Hello All, today I want to share another page I made with the Tres Jolie Main Kit. I also added a few extras that came in the card kit. This is a picture of Maksim and I.  We had a night on the town while visiting over in England. A proper pub, a posh restaurant and the English hospitality and warmth.

I based this page of the sketch that Kim made for the June Kit.

I made a short video of the creative process, and the evolution of this page.

Here are a few close ups…..

Using various die-cuts from my stash, I used the 13@rts paper to add layers to the photo composition, along with fussy cutting elements from the “All Good Things”

We made so many happy memoires on our latest trip and the sketch gave me the inspiration to capture one of them. We hope to see you play along with the sketch this month with the fabulous June Kit.

Mixed Media Monday

Hey everyone Kim here. I’m back today to share my project from the Mixed Media Kit. I love this kit because it’s unlike other mixed media kits, where you just get the mediums. This kit gives you a project to complete, so you can use the mediums in the kit right away.

Let’s take a look at this month’s kit:

It’s got alcohol inks (the colors make a nice rusted patina effect), texture paste, bling and a wonderful resin butterfly project to use all your mediums on.

Here is what I created using one of the big butterflies in the kit:

How about a look at the back of it:

I first mixed the texture paste with a fair amount of the 13@rts Magic powder. This will get very thick, and it won’t spread smoothly (that’s the whole purpose). It will give lots of texture.

Once the paste dried, I randomly added the alcohol ink. I started with the browns, then added the patina color.

Here is a close up to see the texture:

For the inside of the wings, I used some wax from my stash and just melted it on the inside.

I took the glass beads that were in the kit and used those to add texture and depth to the body of the butterfly:

I used the same techniques on the base, and then wrapped it with the bling from the kit:

Hope you liked my little explanation of my Mixed Media Monday project.

Here is my weekly tip: When layering your color mediums, always start with your lightest color and if possible, dry between layers.

“Precious” Layout with Rae

Hello everyone! Today I am sharing a layout I made using the lovely June scrapbooking kit. I have a whole collection of layout that I do using vintage images just for fun, and this is my latest one. I found this vintage image on Pinterest, which is my go-to source for vintage photos.

I kept this layout pretty simple- I didn’t do any stamping or stenciling, which is kind of unusual for me, but I LOVE the 13 Arts and Prima Marketing papers so much, I just wanted to let the beauty of shine through.

I started by ripping the blue 13 Arts paper, and adding it to the Prima Marketing blue rose paper. I distressed the paper edges with a paper distresser, and some grey ink.

I added some more layers using a die cut doily, and two tags that I cut free hand from the Prima Marketing paper. I added some thin twine to the tags from my stash. I cut some of the 13 Arts dark grey wood paper and added some lace to the photo mat. I like the balance it brings between the dark photo and paper and how it flows with the lighter papers of the background.

In this closeup you can see that I added the appliques to my flower clusters. I also added the Creative Embellishments berry chipboard- I inked the chipboard black, and then added some fine embossing powder in gold, intentionally leaving some parts without the powder to give the chipboard a distressed look.

Here’s a closer look at one of my flower/embellishment clusters where you can also see the Prima Marketing resin feathers. The blue flower is from my stash, but the pink ones, along with the leaves are from kit, from Little Birdie.

June Mixed Media Kit Butterfly

Hello all! Ginny here!

I’m back today with my 1st project made with the June Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie! I loved these butterflies from Prima to alter!

I have done a photo tutorial of my process in creating this altered piece.

So lets start…..  🙂

* I started with the Prima Matte Resins, I chose my butterfly to use with the stand.

*I gave the base a coat of gesso.

*To colour the butterfly and the base I used the Alcohol inks from the mixed media kit.

*Put a drop of each colour on a craft sheet, I used some blending solution with the inks which makes them easier to use and then you get the blended/bleeding look.

*With a paint brush I roughly brushed over randomly the inks starting with the palest brown first and then the darker one to create a mottled effect. Drying slightly between each colour application

*When almost dry I then added the patina in various places over the top of the browns.

*I repeated this process with the stand.

*Also in the mixed media kit was the Magic Powder. I made a coloured paste with it and some beige acrylic pant and then added the paste in areas over the butterfly to add depth and texture.

*I cut some of the gorgeous green rhinestones from the kit and glued them on to the body of the butterfly. I added some cheesecloth to make the base of my embellishment cluster.

*I wanted to use some wording on my project, so I chose and cut out some words from the 13 Arts Paper All Good Things to use later.

*Now I built up the embellishment cluster using flowers and leaves from the June scrapbook kit, some smaller rhinestones cut into small lengths and draped over the cheesecloth and the leaves. Using some gel medium dabbed in places over the butterfly I then dropped some seed beads into it.

*I finished off with the cut out wording which I edged with some Viva Gold and then glued them onto the embellishment clusters.

*The base I did similarly with the cheesecloth first, then a leaf and flowers, gems and  wording.

*Lastly I used some more of the Viva Inka Gold from my own stash to the edges of the butterfly and to the antennae as well.

*Gently push the butterfly onto the wire stand. There is a hole already in the base of the butterfly to do this.

*Now for a couple of close ups of the project.

Sketch Challenge Monday

Happy Monday everyone, it’s Kim here. Today is what I’m going to call sketch challenge Monday (later to be renamed challenge Monday). I’m going to reveal my take on the sketch.

Here is the sketch:

Here is my take on it:

Of course I used our gorgeous June kit which just revealed here . It’s filled with beautiful papers from 13@rts and Prima. Plus fun embellishments from Creative Embellishments and more Prima goodies.

How about some close-ups:

I took the frame and turned it on it’s side. I also embossed it with some Lindy’s embossing powder. I did a bit of background stamping.

I used a couple different sized flowers in my cluster. Plus I stuck the watering can in there. I loved the look of it. I added some lace to mimic the lace in the sketch. The words were cut from the die cut piece of paper.

This is my smaller cluster in the lower left had side of the page. I built it around the water pump. More background stamping, a flower, resin feather and word cut from the die cut paper.

Here is my little tip for the week: I have found that Lindy’s Flat Fabio C’est la Vie Cerise and Lindy’s Starburst Mist Tibetan Poppy Teal are great matches for the papers in this kit. If you have those in your stash try them out.

I can’t wait to see what you guys create based on the sketch. Don’t forget to load your entries in the sketch challenge folder here , so you will be eligible for the prize.
