The World Is a Canvas of Imagination!

Hello Craft Friends!

My name is Dana. I'm so happy you're here. Today I'll be creating a Mixed Media Home Decor project. If you're new to Mixed media i hope my project will help and inspire you to give it a try.

Our Tres Jolie May Mixed Media Kit includes Little Birdie Premium Mini Canvas and 1 Step Crackle Medium, Blick Art's 5x7 inch Canvas, Tres Jolie Chipboard frame, metal spoon, Tim Holtz Ranger Alcohol Pearls Inks in 3 colors- Intense, Radiant and Scorch! These are fun to mix and play with and create dazzling effects!

Be sure to order your kit now! They tend to sell out quickly! Here's a photo of this month's Mixed Media kit:

From my stash I'm using Tim Holtz Yupo paper, Stamperia Glamour Gel- Dark Wood from a previous Tres Jolie Kit, Prima Finnibair Ginger Sparks paint, wood plaque piece, jute cord, bee charm, Tim Holtz paper strips, Prima Patina Effect paste-Brass, and Tim Holtz Blending solution.

To begin our project today, I'll took my wood plaque and applied some Stamperia Glamour Gel, just around the edges about an inch or so. Let dry. Here's a photo:

Next I applied Prima Ginger Sparks paint over the top of your previous layer of paint. See photo:

Then taking the Little Birdie 1 step Crackle, apply this over top of your painted wood piece. I recommend letting your Crackle  dry overnight. This will create more cracks. I did apply 2 coats of Crackle since I wanted more cracks. I applied one over the Stamperia paint. And one layer over top of my Ginger Sparks paint. See photo:

Close up photo aaftermy second layer of Crackle has dried.

Take your Tres Jolie Chipboard Oval Frame from the kit. (Save the center pop out chipboard piece. We will be using it. I covered the top of my chipboard frame with Prima Patina Effect Paste- Brass over the top using my pallet knife. See photo:

Set your chipboard frame aside for now.

Take your Tiny Canvas from your kit, I flipped mine over so the back is right side up. Take your center chipboard piece left over from your frame. I traced around my chipboard piece and photo.  I cut out loosely and glued my photo on top of my chipboard oval piece. Then trimmed away any excess photo to fit with my xaco knife. See photos:

Next taking some Tim Holtz Idea-ology paper strips, I cut them to fit along the edges of my frame and top edge of my canvas frame. Glue your strips in place. Trim your excess strips. Then glued my photo inside center of my canvas. See photos:

Set your frame aside. Take your larger canvas, or Yupo paper 5x7 inch. Take out your 3 Tim Holtz Ranger Pearls Alcohol Inks from your kit. If applying your alcohol Inks directly to your canvas, I would recommend adding a coat of Clear Gesso. This prevents your Inks from soaking through your canvas. I also recommend using Tim Holtz Blending solution when using Alcohol Inks. Regular alcohol will not spread the Inks and they won't react the same as when using Blending solution.

I started by adding my alcohol Inks to the top of my Yupo paper. Just play around with the different color Inks and effects. You can't do this wrong.

I add a few drops of different alcohol Inks to my paper, add a drop of blending solution and tilt my paper to create drips. Here's some photos:

Keep adding all 3 color alcohol Inks until you get your desired results. Here's how mine looks with drips:

Let your canvas fully dry before proceeding. If using Yupo paper after it's dried you can glue on top of your large canvas piece. From my stash i glued a sentiment along the bottom edge. See photo:

Take your tiny canvas, glue your chipboard frame in place making sure your photo shows through. See photo:

You can glue your tiny canvas in the center. Set aside to dry. Taking a Tres Jolie Black chipboard Steampunk gears piece from my stash, you can find them here in the shop: https://tresjoliekits.com/collections/chipboard/products/steampunk

I rubbed some Prima Art Alchemy Meallic Wax Aged Brass over the top with my fingers. I didn't apply too much since I wanted some of the black to show through. See photo:

Take this chipboard piece and glue along the top edge of your canvas. In the center circle on this chipboard piece, I glued a Finnibair Mechanicals Steampunk gear i had leftover from a previous Tres Jolie Kit. See photos:

I took the metal spoon from the kit, tied some jute cord around my spoon, and strung the bee charm onto my cord, and tied into a bow. See photo:

Glue your spoon on the lower right edge Here's a photo:

Here's some closeup photos:
