Shadow Box Frame Mother's Day Card and Wood Frame
Happy May Craft Friends!
I'm Dana and My first project for the month of May, has a Mother's Day theme. I know Mother's day is not far away. Even though my dear mother has passed away years ago, I'm glad I have some cherished photos and wonderful memories of her. I hope this project will inspire you and you'll create one for your mother.
I'll be using the newest Cards Tags and More kit from Tres Jolie! It features Bo Bunny "Garden Grove" 6x8 paper pad, matching stickers, awesome trims from Prima, chipboards from Tres Jolie and so much more! Order your kit before they are gone! Isn't it lovely?
The card we'll be creating is a shadow box book style card. I saw this idea on you tube and fell in love with it.
To begin, take your pink cardstock from your kit and cut the following pieces:
Base of your card: Cut your paper to measure 12x 7 & 1/2 piece. Score at 5 & 3/8 inches flip around and score again at 5 & 3/8 inches. Fold along the lines and it will look like this:
Now cut 2 pieces of pink cardstock to measure 7 x 5 inches. Score every 1/2 inch all the way across on both pieces. Then fold on score lines, rosette style. Take another piece of pink cardstock measuring 7x7 and score 1/2 inch all the way across as we did before with our other pieces. Fold rosette style. Here's how your pieces should look:
Next slide the smaller piece into the slots of your larger piece and glue the corners together. Flip and repeat on the other side. Here's a photo:
When you glue all 4 corner pieces together it should look like this:
Take the book base for your shadow box and you can decorate the back with one of the patterned papers from the 6x8 paper pad in this kit.
Then glue your frame to the bottom base of your book on the left side. Add glue along the book binding edge and press firmly. Here's a photo:
Save your scrap pieces and I cut and used to decorate the front edge of my shadow box card. I inked all my papers and stickers using Distress Ink Gathered Twigs (my stash) along with the Chalk Ink included in your kit. See photo:
Next I decorated the inside of my shadow box using some stickers and fussy cut bird image and pendant flag at the top. The wreath sticker I popped up using foam dots from my stash. I adhered some pearl gems from the kit onto the bottom of my flag pendant. The bird image I fussy cut from one of the patterned papers from the 6x8 paper pad in this kit. I glued this between some of the accordion folds along the bottom to give it dimension. The Butterflies I bed the wings upward to create movement and glued in place. I added some Stickles glitter Diamond (my stash) onto the wings to add some glimmer! Here's some closeups!
On the inside left of my shadow box, I adhered a scrap piece of leftover paper on the left edge. Now you have room to add a message!
Here's a photo!
For the front of my shadow box card, I took a scrap piece of paper and glued onto the front. I popped up acouple sticker elements using foam dots and a sentiment piece from my stash at the top along with a few enamel dots! Here's acouple closeup photos!
On the side of my book binding, I adhered another scrap piece of paper and glue a pink bow (from my stash) and cut one gem piece from the trim included in your kit and glued in the center of my bow! Here's a photo!
Wood Frame: I purchased a simple wood heart frame at my local craft store. I chose acouple matching pieces of patterned paper from the 6x8 paper pad. to decorate my frame base. I scored 1/2 inch all the way across and cut into strips. I inked my strips and taking some Mod Podge from my crafty stash, I adhered my strips of patterned paper onto my frame base.
Then using a sponge brush (my stash) I applied a light coat of Mod Podge over the top. Set aside to dry throughly. After your frame has dried, I took an xaco knife (from my stash) and trimmed off any excess paper from the inside heart and along my frame edges. Then using my Distress tool (my stash)I smoothed away any rough edges.
I traced my heart insert from my frame onto some pink cardstock from your kit. I distressed any rough edges using a Distress tool. Here's a photo:
Next I decorated the front of my wood frame using some of the stickers in the kit. I applied foam dots on the back before adhering to my frame. I glued some Prima flowers (from my stash) towards the upper right corner and a rose sticker at the top using foam dots. I also tucked in a few pearls( from my stash ) in between my flower petals! The flag banner I applied foam dots to the back before adhering at the bottom. Add your own photo and you're finished! I think this would make a perfect gift any mom would love to receive. Here's some closeups!
I hope you enjoyed my project idea and will order your kit and make one to surprise your mom! Thanks for visiting the Tres Jolie blog! Be sure to check back often and see what our other amazing designers have created to inspire you!
