Shabby Photo Explosion Box

Good Morning,

Today I am sharing my first project using the beautiful Scrapbook Club Kit for September. I used a pre-made explosion box that I had in my stash and decorated it using the Prima Marketing The Plant Department paper, ephemera and flowers from the kit. I hope you like it. I also have a video tutorial for you to view.

So Let get started. Here is the supplies shown below.

Next I measured and cut out the pattern papers according to the sizes I needed for my flaps and lids. I laid down all the papers where I wanted them and adhered.

I measured and cut my pattern paper according the sizes I needed for the flaps and lids

I decided I wanted a tuck spot. I grabbed my xacto knife and on this piece where the white line is on the paper I cut downward leaving a 1/4 inch space from the top & bottom.

Turn over and place your double back tape around the edges.

Adhere to the flap.

Since this was a pre-made box it had pockets, so I decided to add some flaps. The flaps measured 4 7/8x 5 1/2 score 1/2 inch with 5 1/2 laying across your scoreboard. Adhere the 1/2 inch piece to the inside of the pocket. I did this for all four panels of the explosion box.

In addition to the flap I adhered an insert inside of the pocket. As my photo mats were getting stuck on the inside seams of the pocket.

Now you can place your photo mats inside. Photo measure 5 x 4 3/4 inches.

After finishing adhering down all my papers I decided to create a small pull tab waterfall to fit in the middle of the explosion box.

So you will cut 3 pcs of cardstock at 2 3/4 x 2 inches.

Next cut a piece that is 2 3/4 x 6 1/2 inches. With the 6 1/2 inches across the scoreboard score at 2, 2 1/2, 3, 6 inches. Cut one strip at 1/2 x 6 inches.

Next add a line of double back tape in between each score line as shown below.

Next turn over the piece we just laid dbl back tape on and place a piece a piece of tape on the bottom score line and adhere your 1/2 inch strip.

Next cut a pattern paper for the back do not adhere down. Bring in the sides of the arms from the 1/2 inch strip and glue together in the back.

Once the little arms are folded in place some foam tape on the back of the pattern paper of the waterfall.

Turn over and cover the 3 pcs of cardstock cut at 2 3/4 x 2 inches with pattern paper and adhere down on the strips of double back tape we laid down.

After adding your foam tape to the back, place the pull tab waterfall in the center of the box. Now decorate with the beautiful ephemera from the Scrapbook Kit.

Here is a photo of the lids decorated using the flowers and ephemera along with the finished explosion box. (for more details please view the video tutorial)
