Mixed Media Junk Journal

Hey y'all!  Michelle here and I'm super excited to share my mixed media project with y'all today!!

In this month's mixed media kit we got lots of fun media to play with and let our imaginations run wild!  One of the things we got in the kit were a couple of small canvas boards, normally used for small small paintings.  Buuutttt...I thought they would make great book covers!   I imagined a two sided mixed media junk journal!

So I got to work!

*skip down to the bottom if you wanna check out the process video;)*

I began by cutting one of the canvas boards in half to start the cover.  I mixed the Ranger Crackle Distress Texture Paste with the black soot Distress Oxide Spray and it made a beautiful blue grey color!  I spread this over one side of the cover.

Now the other side of the cover, well that's where the fun starts...it's a double sided mini book!  So when you flip the book over it had a different cover and you can view it from the opposite side!

For this side I stared with the Ranger Crackle Distress Texture Paste and spread it over a stencil with a palette knife on to the other side of the cover before removing the stencil to reveal the design.

While the paste was still wet I sprinkled the bronze embossing powder and heated with my heat tool to melt it.

Next I dripped the Distress Oxide spray ink and dabbed it in spots to blend it.

I then inked both covers to reveal the cracks and textures.  I also gave it a good rub with some gold wax from my stash for a bit of shine.

I bound the two sides together by glueing some heavy canvas to both side and punching holes in the spines.

The signature sections where made with various vintage ephemera, grouped, folded and hole punched to line up with the holes in the spine of the book.  Then I wired them to the spine with some old rusty wire.

OH and check out those amazing Mitform steampunk metal pieces on the covers!  Those are a sneak of whats to come soon in upcoming Tres Jolie kits!

I can't tell you how much I love this little mini and I can't wait to put some art down in it!

If you've stuck with me this long, take a peek at my process video to see exactly how it all came together!

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you were inspired to create something beautiful!
