Merry Christmas Santa Mixed Media Canvas
Hello Craft Friends!
Dana here. I know it's early to think about Christmas but...when I saw the August Mixed Media kit colors, it screamed Christmas to me! Lol
My project is easy and fun to create. This month's Tres Jolie Mixed Media kit has these juicy TCW Stencil Butters, in Red, Green, White and pearl white. You also get a 8x10 blank canvas in addition to a 6x6 canvas, TCW Butter spreader and 6x6 stencil-Lush Petals! Here's a photo of the Mixed Media kit:
From my stash, I am using foam dots, Stickles Glitter Golden Rod, Tres Jolie Chipboard "Merry Christmas " ornament you can find here in the shop: https://tresjoliekits.com/collections/chipboard/products/holidays Tim Holtz Idea-ology Christmas card layers, Gold and silver tinsel, masking tape and Tim Holtz Texture paste Snowfall.
To begin this project, I took out my 6x6 inches blank canvas along with my stencil, butterfly spreader, and all 4 TCW stencil butters. Using some masking tape i taped my 6x6 stencil onto the 6x6 blank canvas. See photo:
Taking one stencil butter color at a time I spread the green stencil butter first, and applied down one section on my canvas. Carefully using your spreader, and scrape off any excess stencil butter. See photo:
Repeat this process using the red, white and pearl stencil butters. See photo:
Set your canvas aside to dry. Take your larger 8x10 canvas. Peel off the protective film. Taking some of my Tim Holtz Idea-ology card layers, I chose some and arranged to fit all around the edge of my canvas. You could also cover your canvas with patterned papers, or other Mixed Media sprays or pastes, if you wanted. Use whatever you have on hand. Once you like the placement of your cards, glue onto your canvas board. Here's how mine looks so far. I did leave the center area blank, since we will be gluing our other canvas piece in this area.
Set this canvas aside. Now we will be working with our Tres Jolie chipboard pieces.i took the Merry Christmas ornament chipboard piece and the green stencil butter. With a small paintbrush i carefully painted the green stencil butter onto my ornament, leaving the words Merry Christmas bare as is. You could add and paint another color stencil butter here if you like. I found that a second coat may be necessary. But these stencil are easy to apply and have a nice shimmery effect when dry. See photo:
On the star and ornament hanger at the top of my chipboard ornament, I applied some Stickles Golden Rod glitter onto each. See photo:
Once your chipboard piece is dry, I applied some foam tape on the back. This will add some lift and dimension.
I did paint another Tres Jolie chipboard Candy cane, using the stencil butters but I decided not to use it on this project. But you could add a candy cane or any other chipboard ornament you prefer. I used the same stencil butters Red and pearl white to paint my candy cane. On the bow, I painted some gold Perfect pearls from a previous Tres Jolie Mixed Media kit. See my example here:
Next I applied some Tim Holtz Texture paste Sparkle along the edges of my small canvas. See photo:
After it has dried, I glued some silver tinsel stems around the edges. See photo:
Glue your small canvas on the center right side on your large canvas. Taking some gold Tinsel stems i glued them all along the edges of my large canvas. See photo:
To finish our project, I added the chipboard ornament at the top right corner using foam tape and I found this cute Santa Ephemera in my Tim Holtz Idea-ology stash, so I adhered him on the left side with foam dots!
Now we are all finished with our project! You could add a metal hanger on the backside or use some festive ribbon to hang and display! Here's some closeup photos!
Here's another finished photo closeup!
