Maximizing Your Stash: Two Cards, One Sheet of Paper!

Hello, crafty friends! Today I'm sharing a fun design strategy to help you stretch the gorgeous Paper Roses supplies inside our June Botanical Blooms Card Kit.

When you open a new kit, it’s easy to get swept away by all the options. But sometimes, setting a small boundary can spark an entirely new direction for your projects. Today, I challenged myself to see exactly how much I could create using just one sheet of patterned floral paper and two sheets of cardstock from the kit.

The result? Two completely unique, beautifully coordinated cards ready for your card organizer!

The Breakdown: One Sheet, Two Layouts

By strategically cutting a single sheet of the Paper Roses patterned floral paper, I managed to build the focal points for both cards without wasting a single scrap.

  • Card One (Happy Birthday): For the first card, I cut purple cardstock at 8x6 and scored at 4 (for a 4x6 card). I cut the white cardstock at 3 3/4 x 5 3/4 ( to leave a purple border showing). I cut the patterned paper the same dimensions as the white cardstock. Then I cut a 3 1/2 inch circle out of it.

  • Card Two (You are awesome): For the second card, I used the other half of the remaining purple cardstock for the base. This time I used a 3 3/4 x 5 3/4 piece of the patterned paper as the next layer. Then I cut and embossed a piece of the white cardstock (3 1/2 x 5). I used the 3 1/2 circle left over from the first card in the center. I used poppets to secure it to add more dimension. It completely changes the movement of the card while using the exact same paper family!

The Secret Weapon: Embossed White Cardstock

To keep these cards from feeling flat, I relied heavily on texture rather than adding more colorful layers.

I took the plain white cardstock from the kit and ran it through an embossing folder to introduce a crisp, raised geometric pattern across the background elements.

Design Tip: Notice how the embossed white cardstock anchors the sentiment on the happy birthday card, but acts as a full textured background layer on the "you are awesome" card? It's an effortless way to make monochromatic cardstock look custom, sophisticated, and high-end without clashing with your main floral prints.

Finishing Touches

I pulled a couple of small flowers, and ticket tags from the kit's embellishments to bridge the patterns together. Used the silver border and purple flowers from a past kit to add a bit more to the cards.

This challenge is proof that you don't need to cut into your entire paper pack to create a stunning set of cards. Sometimes, a single sheet and a good embossing folder are all it takes to build something spectacular.
