Making a Necklace from Chip Board Gears
Hi Crafters, I am Janet and I am guest designing for the month. I am working with the June Tres Jolie Cards, Tags and More kit.
Looking at the gear chip board pieces from the June Tres Jolie Cards, Tags and More kit, I saw a necklace. I know that might not be your first thought but I tend to make jewelry from a variety of materials.
I took two of the chip board pieces from the June kit and painted one in a brown metallic and the other in silver. Then I used the four pictured metallic paints and dabbed a random pattern on top of the silver painted gear.
I could have left the gears bronze and silver but I tend to like a bit more color in my jewelry. I painted the back of the gears in the brown metallic to finish it off. After the paint dried, I glue the two pieces together.
I gave the gears a thin layer of UV Resin to add stability and a glossy finish.
Wrapping floral wire around the end of my paint brush, I created a jewelry bail to attach to the back.
I used Super Glue to attach the bail to the back of the necklace's focal piece. In this photo you can see the back of the piece is painted.
Finishing it off, I threaded a brown cord and ribbon necklace finding I had in my stash. I love the finished look. I was torn between making a necklace or a pin. Which would you have chosen?
