Holly Jolly DIY Ornaments
Hello Craft Friends!
Dana here! Welcome to the Tres Jolie blog! Can you believe it's November already? Won't be long before we start putting up our Christmas trees. So today I'll be creating some easy DIY Christmas ornaments just in time for the holidays!
To create my ornaments I'm using the November Tres Jolie Mixed Media kit! In this month's kit you receive 3 Tres Jolie Chipboard Ornament shapes, along with Chipboard Snowflakes and Holly. In addition you'll receive Diamond Dust (crushed glass) sure to add some Sparkle to your ornaments, Tim Holtz Alloy "Glided and "Sterling " and also "Crimson and "Mojito" alcohol Inks!
Here's a photo:
Ill also be using some items from my stash: Heavy White Gesso, Alcohol ink blending solution, Ribbon and silver tinsel, enamel dots, and puffy/chipboard stickers, Stickles Holly and Christmas Red glitters!
Let's begin our project!
Taking some white Gesso, and a paintbrush, apply the Gesso to the surface of each ornament. This will create a non-porous surface so your alcohol Inks will not just absorb through your chipboard. Let dry.
Ornament #1: Take your Mojito alcohol ink, apply over the top and bottom sections on your ornament. Add a small drop of blending solution over top. see photo:
On the top hanger and middle section, I applied the Sterling Alloy alcohol ink and spread over the surface area, using a small paintbrush. Set aside to dry.
Now take one of the larger Chipboard Fern/berries pieces from your kit, and apply Stickles Holly glitter on the leaves. On the berries i applied Stickles Christmas Red glitter. See photo:
After your glitter has dried, you can glue to top portion of your ornament. I applied a 3D sticker Snowflakes (from my stash) in the center. on the bottom section of my ornament, i added a puffy sticker sentiment "Holly Jolly" To finish, i tied some Red ribbon through the hole at the top of my ornament and tied into a knot. Here's acouple closeup photos!
Ornament #2 i applied the White Gesso as we did previously over top of my chipboard ornament shape. Let dry. On the ornament hanger and center section, I applied some Tim Holtz Alloy alcohol ink- Glided. See photo:
On the top ornament hanger and center section, I applied some Tim Holtz Alloy alcohol ink-Sterling. Let dry.
Take two of the Tres Jolie small chipboard Snowflakes, (one large, one small) I applied some Folkart Vintage White acrylic paint over the top of each Snowflake. See photo:
Now taking my craft glue (my stash) i applied over top of my chipboard Snowflake. Next sprinkle some Diamond Dust included in your kit, over top of your Snowflake. Shake off any excess Diamond Dust. Let dry. See photos:
After your Snowflakes have dried, I added a gold enamel dot in the center of each Snowflake! Glue one Snowflake in the center of each ornament section. Taking some silver tinsel, I thread a piece through the hole at the top of my ornament. Then twist to create a hanger. See photos:
Here's another closeup photo:
Ornament #3: I applied some Tim Holtz Alcohol ink-"Crimson " on both sections on my ornament. I added a small drop of blending solution on each section. On the ornament hanger and middle section, i applied some Tim Holtz Alloy alcohol ink " Glided "Let dry. See photo:
Now take one of the small Holly chipboard pieces. I applied some Tim Holtz Mojito alcohol ink to the leaves. I added 3 small berries in the center with my Stickles Glitter Christmas Red. See photo:
After it dried, I added a chipboard sticker in the center of the top section of my ornament. Then glued the Holly chipboard over top! On the bottom section on my ornament, I glued another small Snowflake. I took some gold thread from my stash, and tied through the hole at the top of my ornament. I cut a small piece of pine trim and glued at the top edge on my ornament. I added a few red berries to finish. Here's some closeup photos!
Now your ornaments are ready to hang and display on your Christmas tree! They also would make a great gift idea! Who doesn't LOVE receiving a handmade gift for Christmas!
I hope my ideas have inspired you today! Be sure to order your kit or kits today, before they sell out!
