Chipboard and Custom Engraved items take 3-5 business days for processing.

Age of Technology

The June Kits from Tres Jolie are all about Steampunk and I’ve been having a lot of fun creating my projects!

First up is a layout following this month’s Mood Board, featuring a photo I took in North Carolina back in 2012.

And here is the Mood Board that inspired it, full of gears and gears and more gears!

The Scrapbook Kit comes with a fantastic paper collection from Craft O’Clock, along with Metal Castings from MitForm and a selection of chipboard border pieces from Tres Jolie.

The patterned paper is full of colors and images both subtle and bold and I decided that it should stand on its own without any stamping or stenciling. Any use of mixed media would be confined to a few matting layers and two of the wonderful chipboard pieces that came in the kit.

I pulled out some of my Prima waxes and a stipple brush and went to work on the chipboard borders, adding layer upon layer until they blended with the background.

Next, I cut a 4” x 6” piece from the Decorative Cards sheet and distressed the edges. (I’ve used the reverse side of the paper here; I wanted to take advantage of the colors and pattern.) The next layer under the photo is from a paper pack of corrugated cardstock; I’ve selected a rust-colored sheet that perfectly matches the Mood Board. The top layer of matting is from a mailing box that I stripped down to the corrugate. I altered both pieces by rubbing in various waxes, blending them here and there as I went along.

All four layers (the patterned paper, the corrugates, and the photo) were backed with packaging for more dimension as I adhered them to the base.

When that was done, I glued the chipboard piece along the side.

I’ve embellished the lower corner with a few of the MitForm gears (along with a couple of smaller pieces from my stash) and a few of the flowers from the kit and added a circle cut from one of the Extras sheets.

For the upper corner, I simply filled in the gap along the edge of the corrugate with another small gear and a few more flowers.

I created a title piece using another cut-out, the words on the UPC strip and a few Ingvild Bolme metals that I’ve been hoarding for ages.

I scattered a few more circles and three Steampunk butterflies, all fussy cut from the Extras sheets and finished up by placing that amazing MitForm Airship in the corner.
