Valentine’s Day Treat/Gift Box Tutorial with Rae

Hi, everyone! With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, you may be looking for a fun way to give candy or small gifts to your friends. I’ve made these boxes many times for Christmas, birthdays, and any Valentine’s Day. I thought it would be fun to share how I made this box using the beautiful February scrapbook kit:

These boxes are pretty easy and quick to make, and it only takes 5 sheets of 12X12 paper and a few random supplies. These boxes can completely close, so you can’t go nuts adding a bunch of embellishments on the inside, so they are super cheap to make!

In this tutorial, you will see that I am using different paper from the kit, but the steps are the same for the box shown above.

Here’s what you will need:

  • 5 sheets of 12×12 paper
  • liquid glue
  • paper trimmer
  • ruler
  • pen or pencil
  • scissors

  • extra embellishments for the top of the box
  • chalk ink
  • border punch

So, lets get started!

First, cut a sheet of paper for the base of the box 11 ¾ in. x 6 in. Pick a piece of paper that has a good or basic image so that the inside of the box base coordinates well with the papers you choose for the little boxes inside.

I think it’s easiest to fold the paper in half, then fold both edges into the middle crease.

For the lid of the box, choose paper that gives a nice contrast to the base- if the base is busy, choose something more plain and vice versa.

Next, choose the four sheets of paper for the four inside boxes.

Below is one of the pieces of paper for the inside of the box.

Chalk ink is optional, but it helps mask any folds in the paper where the paper creases show the white of the inside fibers of the papers.

I think that liquid glue works best for this because you may need move the boxes around a bit to make them align perfectly within the creases and edges of the base.  If you use double-sided tape and don’t set it down perfectly on the base, the boxes will not match up and the box won’t close right.

And, this is what the inside looks like after all of the boxes are glued to the base (this is from the boxes made with the February kit:

For added detail, you can add cut outs and border punch strips, but embellishments that are bulky won’t work out because then the box will not close.  Safe the bulky stuff for the outside of the box!

For this box, I added Lemoncraft cut outs to the front, and some of the Prima Say it in Crystals.

For the lid, I added lace and more crystals to the side, the gold heart pick, and some flowers from the kit to the top which you can see here:

These boxes are great for small candies, as long as they completely fit in the boxes.

If you have about 30 minutes, you can make these!
