Tres Jolie Kit Club–August Mixed Media Kit–Altered Paintbrush

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

This week I have used items from the August Mixed Media kit, along with items from my stash, to create this altered paintbrush.

I used the Prima Modeling Material with the Finnabair Mould to create the bust and flourishes, which I “painted” with the Lindy’s “Bayou Boogie Gold” Magical Powder, and after I prepared my paintbrush I used the Distress Oxide Sprays to add the background color. Check out my process video to see how everything came together!

I used some Prima/Finnabair Crackle texture Paste on my background (from my stash) with a couple of stencils I have collected from previous Tres Jolie kits! After the paste had dried I used the three Distress Oxide Sprays from this month’s kit to give the background some color. Plus, I finished off two packs of flowers, both of which I had been hoarding from previous Tres Jolie kits.

I love the mould that came in the kit this month, and I especially love that it is an item I will be able to keep in my stash to use over and over again! Some items, like the glitter I sprinkled about from a previous Tres Jolie kit, will (eventually) run out, but that mould will be in my stash forever!

I hope you enjoyed this altered paintbrush and I hope it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media kit! Stay crafty!

Mixed Media “Trees by Streams of Water”

Happy Wednesday y’all!!  Michelle here, giving you a fun dose of mixed media today!!

Today I’m playing with the awesome Redesign Modeling Material by Redesign by Prima, Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Spray by Ranger & Lindys Magical metallic powder that were in the August mixed media kit.  I also picked out a stamp I liked with a simple, deep cut design to use that would make a good impression.

I started out by taking a good portion of the modeling material and pressing it flat on to a nonstick surface that I knew it would release easily from.  Then  I firmly stamped the rubber stamp into the modeling material.

I allowed the modeling material to dry, you can speed this up a bit with a heat gun but you may need to allow it to dry a few hours to overnight.

Next I sprayed the piece well with the “bundled sage” Distress Oxide Spray and lightly blotted the excess to create a unique effect.

Finally I applied a bit of water to my work surface and then began to dip my wet paint brush in the Lindy’s Magicals gold metallic powder, and then brushing along the edges and high spots of my stamped modeling material …rewetting my brush as needed.

I applied my finished piece on to a prepared mixed media canvas board.

If you would like to recreate the look of this board, I simply applied some texture medium that had a lot of grit to it and added some extra texture pebbles to the edges then painted the entire board black.  After it was dry I brushed on some of the gold Lindy’s magicals kinda like a rich water color, leaving it almost powdery in some spots for extra grit.  I then applied some light sage green acrylic paint to the raised textured areas and tucked some natural moss under my adhered stamped modeling material piece.

I’m pretty smitten with it and I hope you are too!  Hopefully this helps you think a bit out the box on how you can use the mediums included in this month’s amazing mixed media kit!!

“Blessed” Ringed Mini Album

Hello crafty friends!! Today I’m sharing the first project I created using the August Card, Tags, & More kit. This kit came with some beautiful papers, cut outs & my favorite was the gold doilies. The entire kit was beautifully put together and very easy to put together.

If you purchased this kit and have never created a ringed mini album, the one thing I can tell you is that this is the easiest kind of mini album that you can create. I think these are fun to make for any level but most definitely for beginners, this is what I would go with.

Here is the process video of how I created mine. I hope you can get an idea of what I did , it honestly is very easy. Everything that Kim put in this kit makes it that easy. Maybe the only thing that took any kind of work was cutting the chipboard she provided to size,  which you can cut yours to any size you would like. Mine measures 8 1/2 X 8 1/2.

I hope that you like what I came up with this month. If you purchased this kit, please don’t forget to share with us your final project on the Facebook page Tres Jolie Kit Club . Also don’t forget to join in this month’s sketch challenge!

I’ll be back next week with my next project. See Ya then….

Tres Jolie Kit Club–August 2020 Mixed Media Kit–*Follow Along With Us*

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you my “Follow Along With Us” project for the month using the August Mixed Media Kit. Now, I’m not going to lie, this project fought back! This was just one of those times that I was having problems getting my hands to do what my brain was picturing. As you’ll discover in the video, in the end I had to do a voice-over to explain what I did, but I’m rather pleased with the end result!

The stems are actually a rather happy accident. I didn’t originally plan for them to be “broken,” but when they came apart I realized I rather liked the look. Now, as I’ll also note in the video, I would paint the “Bayou Boogie Gold” Magical Powder on my mushrooms and stems before adding them to the canvas. If you do (and don’t add the “Antique Linen” first) they will match the flowers. If you do it the same way I did in the video then your mushrooms will look like mine here. When I was working on it I hadn’t planned to have them gold originally, but after I got them glued down I decided to make them pop off the canvas more! (Have I mentioned this project just wanted to fight me every step of the way? LOL!)

Check out my video and follow along!

You don’t need a mould to use modeling material! I formed my stems and mushrooms by hand! I didn’t try to make them the same or perfect, I just played around with the modeling material until I liked what I made. (Which isn’t in the video due to this project fighting me the whole time! If I remember correctly, I thought my camera was running, but I was mistaken. Sorry!!)

At some point in time, although I can’t say when exactly after everything this project put me through, I decided to cluster all the flowers from the mould together where the mushroom stems intersected!

Even though the acrylic sealer had an effect on the Oxide Spray, I can tell you that had not happened to me before, so I am thinking I should have set it aside longer to dry. I’m not disappointed, just surprised. And sometimes surprises work out!

I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you an idea or two about how to use the items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie! Thank you for joining us and I’ll see you again soon!

Rustic Shabby Chic Mini Album for Tres Jolie Kits Mood Board Challenge

Hello crafty friends!! This week I am back to share what I created this month for the the July Mood Board Challenge. I used the stunning July Scrapbook Kit which included the papers from Scrapboys “Dream Garden”! This kit was filled with flowers which I love and I am pretty sure I used all of them with the exception of maybe a few blue ones. I always try not to make my mini albums so chunky but that is always a fail! I can’t help it! I hope u like what I have come up with for this challenge! There is still time for YOU to enter as well! So hurry and share with us what you have created for this mood board challenge!

For the base of this album I used one of the premade chipboard albums from Frank Garcia which is a Memory Hardware Album, it measures 5.5 x 7.5. I usually paint the edges of my albums with Antique White Acrylic Paint but lately I love how the Tonic Studios Embellishment Mousse in Chai Latte.

Its a little light so you might not be able to tell but it does give it a little pop of color and shimmer as well.

I then distressed the edges with my Prima Marketing Distress Tool   and I also used some Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink on the edges as well. This gives it a more rustic look rather than just Shabby Chic.

Once I adhered my papers I began adding some Ivory non brand card stock photo mats backed with American Crafts Pink Textured Card stock and I also added some of the 49&Market Sky Stitched Frames that were in the kit. I did end up cutting up some of the tags from a past kit from Tres Jolie that had the perfect color combo to go with this album. I also used a Dusty Attic Chipboard frame that was also from a past kit. But you can use what ever you want to embellish your album if you don’t have these on hand.

I did use some of the cut outs from the “Dream Garden” sheet. I also used up the rest of the Shabby Chic Bugs from Prima Marketing that were also in the scrapbook kit. I also added some of the  Ballerina Liquid Pearls from Ranger on the wings and body of the resin butterfly, these liquid pearls were also a part of the Scrapbook kit.

Here is a quick video where I share the entire album:

I do hope that you find some inspiration from my project as well as from the other Tres Jolie Designers. If you have never made a mini album and feel intimidated to try it, these premade chipboard albums make it SO MUCH EASIER. I hope you will give it a try and share with us!!

See you all in August!! I’m excited to share my projects with you!!

“Just Imagine” Mini Junk Journal

Hello again crafty friends!! Well July is already here and I can’t believe how quick the months seem to by going by! I hope that everyone is doing well and staying home and keeping yourselves safe! Well this month I am excited to share the project that I have been looking forward to creating for some time now. As most of you might that this months kit for the Cards, Tags, & More kit is a mini junk journal kit that I helped Kim put together….just helped a little bit! I loved it! Thanks Kim!! Anyhow on to my project!!

I began by cutting the papers from the 8X8 Stamperia “Imagine” paper pad from the kit. I cut the papers to the sizes of canvas pages and as I was creating , I did end up using a couple papers from a vintage stash I had cut and of course I also used some of the music sheets from the kit. I also did some light stitching on some of the pages not all because I am fairly new at sewing.

Once I finished adhering the paper on the pages, I began making my pockets which included some of the music sheets from the kit, I used lace from the kit & on the last page I used on of the ephemera cards from the kit. I created some tuck spots using the larger tickets from the Tim Holtz Tickets included in the kit, I used the smaller ones on some of the coffee/tea dyed journaling papers (as seen in the above right photo & the bottom left photo the larger ticket). I also did some stamping on the journaling papers.

You will also notice on one of the pages I added the envelope onto the page and added the bingo card inside as a journaling spot and adhered one of the music flares onto the envelope. This was the only flip page I created on this album.

I cut out the tiny tags from one of the 8X8 sheets which I absolutely love tiny tags! I did add some in the pockets & tuck spots but the rest I made a quick tiny tag album adhering them with some twine. I also created a small album from some of the cut outs that to me looked like pages from a book, I binded them with the same twine. I used a few of the milk caps and a lot of the ephemera. To be honest I had to stop myself from trying to use up every last piece of supplies from the kit because I started to notice it was getting too chunky!

I have added a short video to share the entire album but I did want to add that on the cover I used the closure that came with the album, I cut it to fit my album and had adhered it before adding my cover and back page. I also fussy cut one of the beautiful mini art dresses that were printed on one of the pages of the paper pad from the kit. I inked the edges with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink and I adhered it with some foam tape, I adhered the Gothic Frame and then added this dress. I had cut also some of the beautiful sentiments that were throughout the papers and chose one for the title of my mini junk journal which read ” The creation of beauty is Art”! Lastly I had already added a different lace on the cover but then last week when I went to my doctor appointment my hubby took me over to one of my favorite consignment stores which I was surprised was open, and found some vintage laces so I came home and added one of these instead! I hope u like how it looks!

Well crafty friends, I sure do hope that you liked this mini junk journal that almost doesn’t look too mini by the size lol but I sure loved creating this small piece of art using this fun kit!! So if you haven’t purchased yours yet , head over to the Tres Jolie website before they sell out!! I’ll be back on Friday with another fun project using the July Scrapbook kit!!

July “follow along with me” layout

Hey Guys, Kim here. Today I am sharing a layout created with the July 2020 scrapbook kit. These papers from Scrapboys are amazing. I’ve done a follow along with me layout.

If you haven’t seen the kit, here it is:

Here is the layout I created with it:

This layout was created with just items from the Scrapbook kit. This is a new thing we created after we’ve had some request for more detailed instructions for the projects. For this layout I had a video to follow along with, but I accidentally deleted it. I will give you the step by steps and list the items used.

This is the second “follow along with me”. DT member Crystal did one with the July mixed media kit, so don’t forget to check that out. Again, this is a new monthly series.

Here is the list of items used from the kit:

  1. Dream Garden sheet #1
  2. Dream Garden sheet #5
  3. 49 & Market stitched frame
  4. Prima Marketing Shabby Chic Treasures
  5. 49 & Market sugar poises
  6. 49 & Market Wildflowers
  7. 49 & Market garden petals
  8. Creative Embellishments flourish
  9. Ranger liquid pearls

Essentials from my stash:

  1. Pink cardstock
  2. Pink chalk ink
  3. White embossing powder
  4. Gesso
  5. Various die cuts

I used sheet 1 as my base and ripped sheet 2 on the diagonal (made sure the wagon wheel was on the side I didn’t use). I inked the edges of all paper with some pink chalk ink, then adhered the ripped sheet to the base.

I then watered down some gesso and whit washed the base sheet to the down the flowers. Once dried, I swiped the page lightly with the pink chalk ink.

I cut a couple of die cuts from pink cardstock. I adhered them behind where my photo was going. Once that was done, I fussy cut the wagon wheel and flower pail from the leftover torn paper.

The wagon wheel was glued down and the pail set to the side for later. I added small foam dots to the stitched frame and stuck it down. Next I added thicker foam tape to the photo and layered it onto pf the frame.

Once picture was down, I embellished the rest of the layout. I used foam tape on the pail and adhered it just below the photo. I added flowers to the bottom using all flowers from the kit. The top spray was created by bunching up flowers from all three packs.

For the chipboard. i cut it into 2 pieces. The I used a combo of white embossing power and the pink liquid pearls. Just randomly place your liquid pearls on the chipboard, then sprinkle with embossing power and heat set.

There you have it. I hope this explanation helps. So sorry about the video (he he).

Simple , Unique But Beautiful Layout

Hello crafty friends! This week I am back sharing a layout where I have created my own background design for my layout!

I really loved creating this layout using this month’s Cards, Tags & More Kit

You can view a quick process video of how I created this using a few, simple supplies that you most likely have in your crafty stash!!

I began by adhering a 12×12 sheet of light yellow card stock from American Crafts , onto a 12×12 white chipboard sheet. I then trimmed a sheet of white card stock to that yellow one but before adhering it I went along the edges using some of the Tonic Studios Embellishment Nuvo mousse   in Custard cream. I then applied some 13@arts White Gesso from a previous kit onto areas of the card stock for when I add some colors using a shimmer spray from Recollections Simply Pastel Yellow and I also added some Tim Holtz Distress Stain in Spun Sugar. I heat dried it then added some white cheese cloth for some added dimension.

I then added some of the lace from the kit and then I took a couple of sheets from the Simple Stories Vintage Garden District Paper Pad from the kit and tore some of pieces of paper to add onto the edges mainly . Before adhering the torn paper to the layout I went over the edges using one of my favorite products, the Tonic Studios Nuvo Embellishment Mousse in Custard Cream color.

I want the frames from the collection to be my main focus on my layout.  Then on back of the frames I had added some light pink card stock from the kit and some pop dots which made it easier for me to add the photos of my grand daughters since I hadn’t printed them and added them right away to my layout.

So that was basically a quick over view of my project! I hope that you liked what I came up with using this month’s kit and also please don’t forget that you still have time to enter the 2 year anniversary challenge going on this month for Tres Jolie Kits!!

Talk to you all soon!! Hope u have a great weekend!!

Shabby Little Mini Book

Happy Wednesday y’all!!

Now y’all know I like to mix things up a bit!  LOL!  I normally get the mixed media kit but this month I got both the mixed media kit and the scrapbook kit, so this little mini is made with this month’s scrapbook kit.

When I opened up that scrapbook kit and saw those cute stitched frames by 49 & Market I knew I was going to be making this mini!  And the cardstock by AB Studio was just perfectly designed to make these little pages…these pages were all cut from one sheet of cardstock!

I knew they would be perfect to frame up those lovely designs on the AB Studio cardstock!  For this I just cut the cardstock to fit the frames and glued them to the back side of the frames.  I then cut a small strip of scrap card stock and taped it to the back left of each “page” to help form more of an area that could but used as a spine.  More on how I used that additional edge in a bit.

Next I turned my attention to the cover, I added a part of the chipboard chain and gears.  I just cut a portion of the design and I painted it with some of the white crackle paste I had sitting on my desk from the mixed media kit.  Although it didn’t really crackle since I wan’t using it in the way crackle paste should be used to crackle properly, I do like how it looks.  You could absolutely just use whatever white paint you have.  I also inked it with a brown ink pad along the edges before glueing it down.

Here you can see that additional scrap cardstock I used to create a bit of a spine.  I used my standard size hole punch to punch two holes in it (all the way through each sheet) and ran the lace through to form the binding of the book, tying it in the front of the book.

I used the same white crackle paste from the mixed media kit to paint the Darice flowers and sprinkled some gold glitter from one of my previous kits on them.  I also tucked on the the Tim Holtz Timepiece watch faces in there as well after giving it a quick wipe with some white paint.

As you can see the book is not filled just yet, I can’t decide how I want to use it but I couldn’t let the opportunity pass to create it and now it’s made and ready to fill!  It will be a great gift or quick art journal when the mood strikes me!

Thanks for stoping by today!
