“I was quiet….” October Sketch Challenge Layout

Hello crafty friends! This week I come to you with my sketch challenge layout for October 2020. I really love this beautiful paper line and I knew it would go perfect with a photo of my beautiful daughter Destinee who is my only daughter and the oldest of my children. This paper collection from Blue Fern Studios Jane’s Memoris  which is in the Scrapbook Kit from Tres Jolie Kits.

This project was pretty quick coming together because the paper I used is so beautifully detailed that I didn’t want to cover to take anything away from it. I had thought of adding some stenciling but I honestly backed away last minute. Here is some photos of the steps I took to create this!

I began by picking out which paper from the collection I would use from this Blue Fern Studios Jane’s Memoirs collection. I also like using 12×12 sheet of chipboard to back my layout this way it keeps sturdy even if I was to spray inks, water, stenciling, stamping , etc. I added some non brand double sided tape onto the chipboard, I then used Tim Holtz Distress Stain Ground Espresso along the edges of the paper I chose. I then took off the paper off of the double sided tape using my Tim Holtz Retractable Craft Pick . Once I added my paper, I went over it using my We R Memory Keepers Large Bone Folder.

I then set my layout aside and picked out my photo and frame for my layout. I absolutely love the chipboard frames from Creative Embellishments that was included in this month’s Scrapbook Kit!! I used Ranger Embossing Ink Dauber on the chipboard then added some Lindy’s Stamp gang Embossing Powder Silence Is Golden, I believe it was from a past Tres Jolie Kit. I then let it cool and adhered my photo onto the frame using ScraPerfect Best Glue Ever which has a great hold. I then used some scrap chipboard or card board on the back of my photo for dimension and used the same glue to adhere it to the paper. I then began adding the flowers that came in the kit as well as flowers from past kits as well. I used the same glue to adhere everything on this project. The flowers are beautiful 49 & Market flowers , Country Bloom (Punch) & Enchanted Petals (Parchment).

la

I also used some the lace from the Scrapbook Kit as well on my layout with a small flower cluster. For that super cute quote that is on my layout which reads ” I was quiet…..but I was not blind-Jane Austen” I cut it from the Bits-N-Bobs Pack also from the kit. I then used the same Distress Stain that I inked the edge of my paper on this small quote I cut. I then used some dimensional dots to adhere it onto my layout. I lastly added a few pearls from Frank Garcia Memory Hardware Pearls IV Pink Passion around my layout.

I finished with this layout pretty quick as I mentioned before that this paper collection has so much detail in it that you don’t need to add to much embellishing to it. So it came together pretty quick! I hope that you will join up in the challenge! You have till the end of the month to do so! Thanks so much for taking time to read my post! I hope you feel inspired to great beautiful things! xoxo

Hugs,

Jeanne

ATC Lovin’!

Michelle here, playing with ATCs today!

I was so excited to see the Prima ATCs in the September mixed media kit!  When I sat down to work on them my mind just went nuts and I had so much fun creating!

Since I love a vintage shabby look I started with my trusty ‘ol white crackle paste from one of my past mixed media kits and just applied it with a pallet knife.

Once that dried (I used a heat gun to speed that along) I laid out where I wanted my prima flowers to go.  Some were.  I knew some would be cut in half so I just overlapped them to the next card since some were quite large flowers.

Next I dug through my ephemera box and got some great vintage looking images, these Tim Holtz paper doll and butterfly images worked great.

Finally I glued them all together and inked up the edges with a bit of the Lindy’s gang ink using the sponge applicator attachment.

To finish them off I added some sentiment stickers (these are some that I had in my stash by “A Vintage Girl & Her Daughter)

I really love how beautiful they all look laid out together but I know they will be a perfect addition to a gift or a sweet little pick-me-up for a friend.

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you are inspired to make something beautiful!

Tres Jolie Kit Club–September Mood Board-Loaded Envelope

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you a Loaded Envelope I made using this month’s scrapbooking kit & the moodboard! I just love the “Industrial Romance” papers from ScrapBoys in this month’s kit. They are the perfect combination of steampunk & flowers, and just great to look at and play with!

I used the solid cardstock (from my stash) to build the envelope, then used the papers from the kit on the envelope, tags, and wands. Check out the video below where I describe the completed envelope. Below the video you will find the September Moodboard and some more photos!

Video:

September 2020 Tres Jolie Kit Club Moodboard

Here is my envelope with three pockets. The final size is 9in x 6in (after all the photos I have included a sketch of the measurements), with the second pocket 4 1/2in and the third pocket 3in. The sketch is the measurements for the basic construction, the only thing no included in the sketch is the 9in x 6in piece of cardstock I used as the top of the back pocket; the one folded down with the zipper.

This is the front and back of the shaker wand I created using a ReneaBouquets Small Shaker Box. I used the professor from the Tim Holtz “The Professor” stamp set (from my stash) on the back piece of acetate and one of the small wings from the Mechanicals found in this month’s kit as the moustache, then back that with a square of paper from the ScrapBoys stack in the kit. The large key in the shaker is from this months kit, but all the other parts are from my stash. For the back I added Tim Holtz’s “Voltage” die, which is painted using Prima’s “Steampunk Copper” Paint and spray with the Lindy’s Gang from the kit. And all of the copper “welding”? It’s Tulip Fabric Paint – Beads In A Bottle – “Copper”!

For the Hummingbird Wand I used a cut file from the Silhouette Store, a Tim Holtz Rosette, some pieces from the cut apart sheet, and a ReneaBouquets Hummingbird. For the lacy wand I just grabbed up some lace from my stash and added another Tim Holtz Rosette and a cut apart pieces as well.

And finally here are the tags and little note card I made to go in the pockets! I just eye-balled the sizes based on the paper I was working with!

The measurements for my envelope.

Tres Jolie Kit Club – August 2020 Mixed Media Kit – Pen/Pencil/Paintbrush Holders

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bring you my third mixed media project of the month using items from this month’s Mixed Media kit. I decided to add a bit of decoration to my craft room by turning two cans into pen-pencil-paintbrush holders.

My new paintbrush holders went together quickly and easily; most of the time I spent on these was dry time! Check out my video below to see how I did it all.

Video:

I, carefully, glued the mould pieces to my cans immediately after forming them (using some E6000) to make sure they were molded to the curve of the can.

I grabbed up some crackle paint (from a previous Tres Jolie kit) and gave everything a nice coating. I didn’t add mould pieces all the way around my cans because, in my case, they are going to be against a wall, so I didn’t think it was necessary, but you can decorate your cans however works best for your style!

I sprayed the three Distress Oxide Sprays on the cans, and after they were dry I used some Krylon Workable Fixatif before adding the Liquid Acrylic Paint and using the Lindy’s Magical Powder on the mould pieces.

As I mentioned in the video, I did a final seal on my cans using some Mod Podge Matte Acrylic Sealer, and I have since ran my cans under water and “scrubbed” them with my hands. I am happy to report that nothing came off!

I hope you enjoyed this project and it gave you an idea of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media kit! Stay Crafty, friends!

Mini Tag Books

Hello crafty friends! Today I am sharing these adorable mini tag books I created using the August Cards, Tags, & More kit. I had the two sheets left from the beautiful papers from Craft O’Clock so thought they would look super cute as mini books you are able to journal in.

This project came together pretty fast , even if you don’t have this exact collection , you can create something similar by making your own tags, using any ephemera you have on hand or are able to print out some as well as sentiments . I used some sticker sentiments from the Finnabair Sentiments Sticker Book from another past Tres Jolie kit.

On one of the sets, I added some Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Seedless Preserves around all of the edges of my tags. I used small pop foam dots on the ephemera I added to the tags. For the sentiments, I used some colored/white card stock to back them onto. I also cut some white card stock to add to the back of the tags to add small photos or just use them to journal on.

This paper collection from Craft O’Clock was very beautiful and considering I wasn’t much for purple, I truly loved creating using this month’s Card, Tags, & More kit. I hope that you all use up every last piece of your papers. Even using scraps , you can come up with some great gift ideas.  I thought also of maybe altering an altoid tin to maybe store these tags books in.

The last thing I did was add some of the beautiful seam binding from the kit on one of the tag books and added some twine on the other one. I also added some of the pearls & bling from the kit. *Note: I didn’t post every single photo on here since they would be too many since I used some of the more narrow tags as well. I did share the main photos though. I hope that you like my project this week. Don’t forget there is still time to join in this month’s sketch challenge going on on the Tres Jolie facebook group. Join in you just might win!!

I will see ya all next time!! Hugs, Jeanne

Tres Jolie Kit Club–August Mixed Media Kit–Altered Paintbrush

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

This week I have used items from the August Mixed Media kit, along with items from my stash, to create this altered paintbrush.

DSC_0106-FRAMED

I used the Prima Modeling Material with the Finnabair Mould to create the bust and flourishes, which I “painted” with the Lindy’s “Bayou Boogie Gold” Magical Powder, and after I prepared my paintbrush I used the Distress Oxide Sprays to add the background color. Check out my process video to see how everything came together!

DSC_0113-FRAMED DSC_0126-FRAMED

I used some Prima/Finnabair Crackle texture Paste on my background (from my stash) with a couple of stencils I have collected from previous Tres Jolie kits! After the paste had dried I used the three Distress Oxide Sprays from this month’s kit to give the background some color. Plus, I finished off two packs of flowers, both of which I had been hoarding from previous Tres Jolie kits.

DSC_0109-FRAMED DSC_0108-FRAMED

I love the mould that came in the kit this month, and I especially love that it is an item I will be able to keep in my stash to use over and over again! Some items, like the glitter I sprinkled about from a previous Tres Jolie kit, will (eventually) run out, but that mould will be in my stash forever!

I hope you enjoyed this altered paintbrush and I hope it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media kit! Stay crafty!

Mixed Media “Trees by Streams of Water”

Happy Wednesday y’all!!  Michelle here, giving you a fun dose of mixed media today!!

Today I’m playing with the awesome Redesign Modeling Material by Redesign by Prima, Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Spray by Ranger & Lindys Magical metallic powder that were in the August mixed media kit.  I also picked out a stamp I liked with a simple, deep cut design to use that would make a good impression.

I started out by taking a good portion of the modeling material and pressing it flat on to a nonstick surface that I knew it would release easily from.  Then  I firmly stamped the rubber stamp into the modeling material.

I allowed the modeling material to dry, you can speed this up a bit with a heat gun but you may need to allow it to dry a few hours to overnight.

Next I sprayed the piece well with the “bundled sage” Distress Oxide Spray and lightly blotted the excess to create a unique effect.

Finally I applied a bit of water to my work surface and then began to dip my wet paint brush in the Lindy’s Magicals gold metallic powder, and then brushing along the edges and high spots of my stamped modeling material …rewetting my brush as needed.

I applied my finished piece on to a prepared mixed media canvas board.

If you would like to recreate the look of this board, I simply applied some texture medium that had a lot of grit to it and added some extra texture pebbles to the edges then painted the entire board black.  After it was dry I brushed on some of the gold Lindy’s magicals kinda like a rich water color, leaving it almost powdery in some spots for extra grit.  I then applied some light sage green acrylic paint to the raised textured areas and tucked some natural moss under my adhered stamped modeling material piece.

I’m pretty smitten with it and I hope you are too!  Hopefully this helps you think a bit out the box on how you can use the mediums included in this month’s amazing mixed media kit!!

Tres Jolie Kit Club–August 2020 Mixed Media Kit–*Follow Along With Us*

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you my “Follow Along With Us” project for the month using the August Mixed Media Kit. Now, I’m not going to lie, this project fought back! This was just one of those times that I was having problems getting my hands to do what my brain was picturing. As you’ll discover in the video, in the end I had to do a voice-over to explain what I did, but I’m rather pleased with the end result!

The stems are actually a rather happy accident. I didn’t originally plan for them to be “broken,” but when they came apart I realized I rather liked the look. Now, as I’ll also note in the video, I would paint the “Bayou Boogie Gold” Magical Powder on my mushrooms and stems before adding them to the canvas. If you do (and don’t add the “Antique Linen” first) they will match the flowers. If you do it the same way I did in the video then your mushrooms will look like mine here. When I was working on it I hadn’t planned to have them gold originally, but after I got them glued down I decided to make them pop off the canvas more! (Have I mentioned this project just wanted to fight me every step of the way? LOL!)

Check out my video and follow along!

You don’t need a mould to use modeling material! I formed my stems and mushrooms by hand! I didn’t try to make them the same or perfect, I just played around with the modeling material until I liked what I made. (Which isn’t in the video due to this project fighting me the whole time! If I remember correctly, I thought my camera was running, but I was mistaken. Sorry!!)

At some point in time, although I can’t say when exactly after everything this project put me through, I decided to cluster all the flowers from the mould together where the mushroom stems intersected!

Even though the acrylic sealer had an effect on the Oxide Spray, I can tell you that had not happened to me before, so I am thinking I should have set it aside longer to dry. I’m not disappointed, just surprised. And sometimes surprises work out!

I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you an idea or two about how to use the items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie! Thank you for joining us and I’ll see you again soon!

Tres Jolie Kit Club – July 2020 Cards, Tags, & More Kit

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you the junk journal I created using this month’s Cards, Tags, & More Kit. I had such a blast making this journal, and even though I didn’t originally intend to kill the kit, as I kept going it became a personal challenge to see if I could get everything in!

For the video, I put the flip-through in at the beginning, then followed it up with the process. I hope you take a peek at it and enjoy it! Below the video, I have added a few photos of the finished journal.

Video:

I used the new Tim Holtz color, “Speckled Egg,” throughout the journal. It went beautifully with the Stamperia papers that came in this month’s kit. For the resin pieces, I used some of the “Speckled Egg” oxide and embossing glaze, and some “Gathered Twig” Distress Crayon.

I pieced together the smaller “left-over” pieces to cover the “manila” colored tags that came in the kit and added some string from my stash.

I cut out the ATC sized cards from the paper and attached them to one side of the popcorn bag that came in my kit! (Your bag may be different) I turned the two music prints into envelopes and added them in, and peeking out of this one is a little notebook I made from the largest left-over piece I had and some standard notebook paper.

The final page and inside of the back cover, which contains a flip out.

I hope you enjoyed this project and had a chance to see my process video, most of it is sped up, but I do stop to explain in quite a few areas! Thank you for joining us here at Tres Jolie!
