Altered Art Card Box

Happy Hump Day to ya!!  This is Michelle, and today I am sharing a happy little Altered Box for your ATCs!  The Prima ATCs that came in the September mixed media kit came in this great sturdy little box that was itching to be used in an awesome way.

I used the TCW Gloss Gel Medium and mixed in the glass beads to create a great texture gel.  Since I wanted it to be tinted I sprayed the gel mixture with a bit of the Lindy’s spray and mixed it all up before spreading it on the cover of the box as well as my Prima flowers.  I also brushed on some of the gloss gel to the spine and sprinkled some glitter for some extra shine.

You can see the entire process in the video below.

Thanks for stoping by today and I hope you are inspired to create something beautiful!!

“Always Be Kind” Altered Birdcage

Hi, everyone!  Happy Sunday!

This month this mixed media kit includes one of my favorite projects: a Prima Marketing Birdcage!  I love these!

And, here’s what I came up with:

I started out by painting the birdcage which comes as a rust color, which I did leave showing on some parts.  I used some light blue paint, then some brighter blue gloss paint spray.  Before completely dry, I blotted the paint for a distressed look.  Once dry I repeated the process with the Lindy’s spray from the kit which is sepia with pink mica.

I distressed and inked some of the ATC cards from the kit to spell “Always” fanned along the top part of the cage.  The kit comes with two packs of Prima flowers from the Pretty Mosaic line, so I thought I would add some other elements from that line from my stash such as some additional flowers, and some pieces of ephemera.

In this close up you can see the bird which I dry brushed with some light blie acrylic paint.  The resin lady with the mask is Scrapberry’s from this month’s scrapbook kit.  The rosary chain along the bottom is from my stash. To finish things off, I adhered the flowers to the cage using the TCW gloss gel medium because it works extremely well as a glue for bulky projects like this, and it lasts much longer than hot glue.  Once dry, I added more of the gloss gel medium to the flowers, one at a time, then sprinkled them with the glass beads and white glitter, both from the kit, for a sugared look.

Bird Cage Photo Frame

Happy Wednesday y’all!  I hope you are enjoying all these gorgeous products you are seeing from the September kits Kim has put together this month!  I got to play with the mixed media kit and I’m so over the moon happy with this little bird cage project!!

I didn’t get to video the process but I put together a slideshow of the step by step process as I photographed each step.  This can be done with all the supplies provided in the mixed media kit and just some basic acrylics you have on hand.  I used a crackle medium on the metal of the bird cage but you could easily just give it a white wash of acrylic or gesso for a similar effect just to lighten it up. The other thing I used acrylic for was the red on the bird.  Other than that it’s all supplies provided in this awesome kit!  So if you are on the fence on this one, GRAB IT!

So check out my slide show and see how it was made!

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you were inspired to create something beautiful today!

Tres Jolie Kit Club–August 2020 Sketch-“This Beautiful Life”

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

This week I am bringing you a layout I created for this month’s sketch challenge using the August 2020 Scrapbooking Kit! This kit includes the scrumptious “Diva” papers from A.B. Studio, some beautiful Prima flowers and ephemera, chipboard from Dusty Attic and Scrapaholics, and a pack of resin pieces from Scrapberry. DSC_0005-FRAMED

I just adore the “Diva” Collection, and it took me a little while to figure out exactly what I was going to do with it, and to tell the truth, the large cut out bonus piece in the pack did a lot of the work for me! Check out the sketch this month, then look below it to see my process video!

To add a little texture to the background I did some water distressing along the edge of the blue-grey paper and added some light stenciling, using an Art Anthology stencil and some texture paste from my stash, where it would peek out from behind my layers.

Even though fussy cutting isn’t my most favorite part of crafting, I just had to add in some of the black & white flowers and foliage from the cut apart sheet in the “Diva” collection. For my chipboard keys and ornaments I pulled out a couple of Prima Fluid Chalks (that came in previous Tres Jolie kits) and just dabbed them on!

Those Prima flowers were the perfect complement to the “Diva” papers, and the pack of “Darcelle” ephemera gave me the piece I needed for the perfect title.

If you haven’t checked out my video yet, that photo is of my grandmother and mother, which I edited and added that sparkle filter to.Thank you for joining us here at Tres Jolie! I hope my layout and take on this month’s sketch inspired you and gave you some ideas for your next project!
