“Industrial Romance” Hot Air Balloon Mood Board Challenge

Hello again crafty friends! This week I am excited to share with u all this month’s project for the Mood Board Challenge for Tres Jolie Kits! For this project I used the September Scrapbook Kit. This beautiful kit is not only a vintage feel but a steampunk one too!

When I first seen this kit I immediately got the idea I wanted to create a paper Hot Air Balloon. This project had been on my crafty bucket list for a while now when I seen the one that Miranda MsLiberty25 created. I followed her tutorial for the hot air balloon its self. I knew I wanted to add an airship instead of a basket or gondola. So while looking around online, I came across a shop on Etsy who sold some wooden 3-D puzzles. So looking around on their shop, I came across a couple different models, I chose the cheaper and best size I figured would work best. It was a 176 piece puzzle that my husband and I enjoyed creating!! We are now thinking we want to purchase more for us to do together and perhaps get some for our grandsons.

I absolutely loved creating this hot air balloon and found this month’s kit went so well with the mood board that Kim has chosen for this month! I do hope that you will enter the challenge this month since it is still open the rest of this month. So I hope that you will join in.

I hope that you have been inspired by the project I created this month for the challenge! This month the rest of the team members of Tres Jolie created some wonderful projects so I hope you check out this blog daily where you can find more inspirational projects. Till next time!! Xoxo

Tres Jolie Kit Club–September Mood Board-Loaded Envelope

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you a Loaded Envelope I made using this month’s scrapbooking kit & the moodboard! I just love the “Industrial Romance” papers from ScrapBoys in this month’s kit. They are the perfect combination of steampunk & flowers, and just great to look at and play with!

I used the solid cardstock (from my stash) to build the envelope, then used the papers from the kit on the envelope, tags, and wands. Check out the video below where I describe the completed envelope. Below the video you will find the September Moodboard and some more photos!

September 2020 Tres Jolie Kit Club Moodboard

Here is my envelope with three pockets. The final size is 9in x 6in (after all the photos I have included a sketch of the measurements), with the second pocket 4 1/2in and the third pocket 3in. The sketch is the measurements for the basic construction, the only thing no included in the sketch is the 9in x 6in piece of cardstock I used as the top of the back pocket; the one folded down with the zipper.

This is the front and back of the shaker wand I created using a ReneaBouquets Small Shaker Box. I used the professor from the Tim Holtz “The Professor” stamp set (from my stash) on the back piece of acetate and one of the small wings from the Mechanicals found in this month’s kit as the moustache, then back that with a square of paper from the ScrapBoys stack in the kit. The large key in the shaker is from this months kit, but all the other parts are from my stash. For the back I added Tim Holtz’s “Voltage” die, which is painted using Prima’s “Steampunk Copper” Paint and spray with the Lindy’s Gang from the kit. And all of the copper “welding”? It’s Tulip Fabric Paint – Beads In A Bottle – “Copper”!

For the Hummingbird Wand I used a cut file from the Silhouette Store, a Tim Holtz Rosette, some pieces from the cut apart sheet, and a ReneaBouquets Hummingbird. For the lacy wand I just grabbed up some lace from my stash and added another Tim Holtz Rosette and a cut apart pieces as well.

And finally here are the tags and little note card I made to go in the pockets! I just eye-balled the sizes based on the paper I was working with!

The measurements for my envelope.

She Believed She Could

Happy Hump Day Y’all!!  Michelle here and I’m brining you a little mixed media love today!

I used the Ranger alcohol inks to color the Acrylic Gear by AB Studios.

Once all the ink was dried and set I moved on to the flowers.  I cut out lots of the flowers from the “Beautiful Things” patterned paper by AB Studios and began to layer them with pop dots and tucked some of the 49 & Market flowers in for added dimension.

I rubbed all the edges & flowers with gold acrylic paint from my stash.

Lastly I added a fun title with a sticker from my stash using pop dots to give it dimension as well.

For more details and instructions I’ve included a little process video for ya!

Steampunk Pulley Gear Lamp

Ok, so you may or may not know that I love all things vintage and repurposing things is my fav.  So when I got these old VHS gears in the mixed media kit I was over the moon excited and my mind went wild!

I quickly began envisioning all sorts of things!  But this idea stuck!  So I had to do it justice!  I remembered a battery operated light bulb on a string that I had gotten from Dollar Tree and I got to work.

I began by picking out the gear that I felt best represented the pulley mechanism and I gave it a good thick coat of the black gesso by Little Birdie.

Once that dried I gave it a rub with the Caribbean Teal Little Birdie Tinted Metallic paint.

Next I did the same thing with the Gold Glaze Little Birdie Tinted Metallic Paint, mainly just hitting the raised areas and edges.

I was pleased with the patina and aged look it gave the gear.

Next I turned my attention to a scrap piece of leather I had from an old upholstery sample (you can usually ask your local furniture stores to save these for you).  I cut a strip of it, using the existing eyelet as my guiding hole.

I rounded the bottom edge of the strip and glued it down to the front of the gear.  Next I glued one of the Mechanicals “Machine Parts” metal gears by Prima.

Finally I looped the string of the light around the VHS gear and tack glued the other side of the leather strip and glued the whole piece to a piece of scrap wood.

I really love how this turned out and I’m super excited to have it hanging in my house!
