Mini Journal Shadow Box

Hey y’all!  Have you ever just needed a fun chunky little art journal but wanted to keep it displayed somewhere that would remind you to create art?  That’s the issue I was faced with.  I wanted a simple little journal that I could create some fun little art journal pages in that would be quick and easy but I wanted to keep it out on display so it needed to be a work of art all on it’s own and fit into my decor and style.

So when I saw the trays in the January mixed media kits I knew one of them was destined for a display box for a little mini art journal that would encourage me to make art.  But I still had to make the journal!  LOL!  So I’ll walk you through my process.

I began with some small squares of watercolor paper and just used masking tape to tape them together accordion style till I was happy with the amount of pages I would have.

I folded them back to back so each page would be something I could create on back and front as I flip through the book.

I then bound the spine with some old gaffers tape that was in my scrap stash.

Next I gave my mini tray from the kit a coat of white gesso

Then rubbed the edges with the “ancient coin” gold metallique acrylic paint by Finnabair from the kit.

I trimmed down the Garden Vine from 49 and Market Paper Goods, removing all the flowers but leaving the leaves.

I rubbed the leaves with glass bead gel and allowed it to dry well.

Next I rubbed the leaves with more of the “ancient coin” gold acrylic paint to reveal the texture.

I bent and glued the reshaped vine into the tray to form the “holder” for my mini journal

I then took a loose piece of the water color paper cut to the same size as the book and applied it with pop dots over the vine to hide where it attaches to the tray.

Finally I placed my book in the tray and twisted the vine over it carefully.

I’m quite pleased with it and can’t wait to create!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-January Mixed Media Kit-Bees

Hey, everyone! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie Kit Club Blog!!

My second project for this month for the Tres Jolie Kit Club focuses on up-cycling a wooden box, using one of the three stencils, two of the paints, the 49 & Market Vine, and some of the Prima Mélange Art Pebbles found in this months Mixed Media Kit!

DSC_0037-FRAMED

Even though in the beginning I wasn’t completely sure if I’d use the ReneaBouquet Bees from my stash, they were the inspiration for the colors! I really just wanted everything but the flowers to have neutral coloring, so I used the “Ancient Coin” and “Steampunk Copper” Prima Paints from the kit on the box and rice paper (also from my stash) with the stencil.

I painted the top “rim” of the box with the “Ancient Coin” and used the “Steampunk Copper” on the outside and inside edges, as well as creating a texture paste of the paints for the stenciling!

I added some of the texture paste stenciling to the outside of the box for texture then painted it with the “Steampunk Copper.”

Here are some close-ups of each of the four compartments so can get a good look at the details!

This little box went together quickly, and I was able to put it all together in a single day! Because Prima paints dry so quickly I was able to time their dry time when I went and had some lunch, and the texture paste I just had to wait for it to be “dry enough.”

The January Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club:MM Kit Graphics

In addition to items from the January Mixed Media kit, I used:

ReneaBouquets Bees, 13@rts Magic Powder, Stamperia Rice Paper (DFSA3004), Liquitex Clear Gesso, Liquitex Gloss Super Heavy Gel, FabriTac, JudiKins Diamond Glaze, and Mod Podge Paper Matte

Lunar Slumber Mini Wooden Tray

Hey y’all!! Can I just start by saying how much I love this little mini wooden trays by Prima that are in the January mixed media kit?!    I mean, the possibilities!  So for this project I used just one of them because I have so many fab ideas for them!

I’m a big Prima fan so I have made some clay pieces before using their air dry paper clay and silicone molds and happened to have them laying around when I went looking for pieces to feature in my little tray.  They just seemed like a logical choice.

Besides that, the only other products I used that were not in the kit were some glass bead gel and acrylic paints by Bad Girls Couture.

Over all the process was pretty simple and fun, gluing on the clay faces first then painting the center black and outside kinda a fun light aqua.  Next I did some texturing and distressing and rubbed on some metallics.   I made a little process video, take a peek at how I created it!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-January 2020 Mixed Media – Prima Wooden Trays

Hey, everyone! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie Kit Club Blog!!

My first project this month focuses on using the fabulous Prima Wooden Trays, one of the three stencils, all three paints, and some of the Prima Mélange Art Pebbles found in this months Mixed Media Kit, along with a few items from my stash!

DSC_0002-FRAMED

When I first started this project I had a much different idea in mind, but I eventually realized this was going to be so much better as an abstract art project!

Video:

You can see stenciling with the paint’s (both from the January 2020 Mixed Media Kit) I turned into texture paste using “Magic Powder” from 13@rts, an item from my stash that came in the June 2018 Tres Jolie Mixed Media Kit.

DSC_0005-FRAMED

I love how the Prima Mélange Art Pebbles look like air bubble in the epoxy!

DSC_0011-FRAMED

I sprinkled my “Henna” and “Gold Leaf” mica flakes on the bottom, then sprinkled the “Frosted” on top of the epoxy. After that was done I popped the Prima Mélange Art Pebbles in and set the trays on a nice level shelf to cure for 24 hours!

In addition to the January 2020 Mixed Media Kit, I used:

Stamperia Rice Paper “Cosmos” Collection, 13@rts Magic Powder, Liquitex Black Gesso, Mod Podge Paper Matte, Tim Holtz Medium Distress Brush, Prima Mica Flakes “Gold Leaf,” “Henna,” and “Frosted,” and Art n Glow Resin

Happy New Year and last project of 2019

Happy New Year to your family from ours. Hope everyone had a safe and fun New Year’s eve.

I’m back to share my last project of 2019. I created this with the December 2019 Mixed media kit.

If you haven’t seen the kit here it is:

Here is my project:

I really enjoyed creating this. I just let myself go with the flow. I found when I did that it really came together. I had a problem when I stopped and started thinking about it.

Let’s talk about the “flow” process(my sd card said my images were corrupt, when I went to download. Sorry no pictures to go with this). I took the collage medium and the 2 sheets of rice paper first. I tore the rice paper randomly and glued it down with the collage medium.

Once arranged the way I wanted it, I took the dry wall tape and ripped it and added it to the canvas with the collage medium. I also added the adhesive mesh the same way.

When I was done and like the look, I sealed it with more of the collage medium. The I took some white gesso and when around the edges and them randomly on the canvas. I then covered the dry gesso with the vintage collage medium to tone down the stark white.

Here is where I ran into trouble, because I started to think too much about what to do next. I wasn’t sure I wanted to leave it flat or add dimension. If I did dimension, what would be my focal piece…You know all the questions.

I decided to add dimension. So now what focal piece? I went back and forth and finally settled on flowers, since I have so many.

I pulled out random texture flowers and in complimentary colors for my canvas. Once I had them arranged, I used some crackle medium and added some stenciling.

After everything was glued down, I used the mist from the kit to add more color throughout the canvas. Finished it with some white paint splatters, added a title and I was done.

We will be revealing our January kit next week. Make sure you come back for that. We will also have the winners from our YouTube hop (sorry, the holidays have us off schedule on that).

Tres Jolie Kit Club-December Mixed Media-Dressform

Hey, All! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie Kit Club Blog!

For my third project using the December Mixed Media Kit, I altered used some paper from my stash with the mediums and drywall tapes from the kit to create a décor dressform! (Dressform Cut File from svgcuts.com)

DSC_0003-FRAMED

Can you believe this wasn’t my original plan? I had thought to alter a pencil box to make it look like a treasure chest! Things didn’t go according to plan, and I had to adjust! You can see the transformation in my YouTube video!

Video:

DSC_0004-FRAMED

Even though I hadn’t planned on making flowers, I am in love with all the texture the drywall tapes impart! (All of the glue and gel hadn’t had time to dry fully & become transparent yet when I had to take the photos!)

DSC_0006-SNEAKPEEK-FRAMED

DSC_0013-FRAMED

DSC_0015-FRAMED

My main flower is actually made from the Tim Holtz “Jumbo Tattered Pinecone” Bigz Die and the rest of the flowers came from the Time Holtz “Tattered Florals” Bigz Die.

DSC_0007-FRAMED

In this picture of the back you can really see the beautiful lace I used as, more or less, the bodice of the “dress.” I am so glad I hoarded that lace for so long!

Tres Jolie Kit Club–December Mixed Media Kit-Top Hat

Welcome back to the Tres Jolie Kit Club Blog! Although it wasn’t intentional, I completed four projects this month! The rice paper I used here was misplaced at the beginning of the month, and was put away in the wrong spot! I think it statically adhered to the plastic of the Cards, Tags, and More Kit’s patterned paper. That being said, once I realized it was “missing,” I already had three projects completed, but I still had this rice paper, so I created a winter top hat!

DSC_0001_FRAMED

This little hat stands approximately 3-3/4” tall and is made sturdy using some chicken wire “ribbon.” That’s the only way I know how to describe the wire!

On the front I used some ReneaBouquet’s Beautiful Board Snowflakes from my stash, sprayed with the two Lindy’s Gang Moon Shadow Mists from the kit, and attached them with some heavy gel medium!

Video:

DSC_0010_FRAMED

Here you can see where I used some of the “Crazing” medium from the Tim Holtz collage medium set in this months kit on the outside of the hat, which I then sprayed with the “Gossamer Gold” Moon Shadow Mist!

DSC_0002_FRAMED

DSC_0009_FRAMED

Two other touches for this piece were two small cabochons for the “buttons” on the hat and some glitter ribbon around the base!

In addition to items from the December Mixed Media Kit (in the following photo), I used:

Mixed media kit

Silhouette Design Store “Mourner’s 3D Top Hat” (ID #67665) Assembly Instructions for “Mourner’s 3D Top Hat”

Silhouette Cameo 3, Nicapa Mat, Premium Blade, ReneaBouquets Beautiful Board Snowflakes, AC Glitter Ribbon, FabriTac, JudiKins Diamond Glaze, Liquitex Super Heavy Gloss Gel, Art Glitter Glue, Spellbinder Tool n One, BEST 1/4” double sided tape, Tim Holtz Mini Snips, and Ranger Brayer

Recycled Tag

You may have realized by now that I like to use every little scrap of my kits.  This month I had not only the Mixed Media kit but also the scrapbook kit so I had a lot to work with.

When I got low on my papers I began to look at the pretty packaging that the Blue Fern embellishments came in and it replicated the patterns on the paper in a smaller print.  I thought to myself that it would make the perfect tag so I got to work!

I cut the tag shape out and punched a hole at the top

I then used the stencil from the mixed media kit and some molding paste to create some great texture on my newly created tag.

Once the new texture was created and dried I sprayed on some Lindy’s Moon Shadow Mist from the Mixed Media kit.

Next I added more texture by applying some paper packing scraps at the bottom with more molding paste and I tucked in one of the little resin birds from the Scrapbook kit.

I continued to layer more texture with the mesh tape from the mixed media kit as well.

While the molding paste was wet I sprinkled on some coarse silver glitter and allowed it all to dry well.  Once it was all dry I added a title cutout with a pop dot and rubbed the bird with some metallic gold.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope you are inspired to look at your packaging in a different light!!

Christmas Canvas

Hey y’all and Happy Thursday to ya!  I’ve got a fun Christmas Canvas for you today made with the December Mixed Media kit and the Blue Fern papers we used for the blog hop.  I had so much fun with them I just couldn’t put them down!

I even made y’all a little process video!  Despite a little wonky foggy stuff going on with my lens on the first half of the video, you can see the details on how it all came together.

Take a peek at some close ups below for more detail.

You’ll notice here I used a smaller stretched canvas turned backwards on top of the board canvas that is included in the kit.  This gave me a nice place to create a shadow box effect.  You could tuck all sorts of fun embellishments in there!

I really had fun layering it all and just going nuts with this canvas.  The little “joy” banner was one of my favorite parts I added.  You can see details on it in the video as well.

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope this inspired you to create something beautiful today!!

December Mixed Media Kit-Tres Jolie Kit Club-Poinsettia “Vase”

Hey, All! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie Blog!

For my first project using the December Mixed Media Kit, I altered an old jelly jar and added some faux floral pieces to create a rustic, winter/holiday décor piece!

DSC_0018-FRAMED

You can’t see it in the photos, but I used the last bit of my drywall tape with the holes from the kit across the top of the jar to help arrange my foliage and poinsettias! And, because the flowers aren’t glued in, I can switch them out if I want!

Video:

DSC_0020-FRAMED

I have so many different textures on my “vase”! I used the crazing medium and the grid drywall tape from the kit, and some crackle paste and glitter from my stash to decorate the jar!

DSC_0025-FRAMED

As you can see, I used the crackle paste with the stencil from this months kit! I love the stencil from this month, it is a “simple” leaf pattern which makes if very versatile!

DSC_0023-FRAMED

The final coat on the piece was to spray it with (and roll it in!) the “Treasure Island Aqua” Moon Shadow Mist by Lindy’s Gang that came in the kit!
