Tres Jolie Kit Club–September Mixed Media Kit-Spinel Panel

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

This week I’m bringing you a little panel I created using items from this month’s mixed media kit as well as items from my stash!

The script on my background is from the Finnabair “Read My Letter” stencil from my stash, but I did use the TCW Gel from this month’s kit with it.

This project went together rather quickly and easily, to see how it was done, check out my video!

Video:

After I had all the parts I wanted glued down to my background (the TCW Gel from the kit makes a great glue!) I coated it all with some white gesso, then started adding on my mediums; starting with the Lindy’s Gang from the kit.

I mixed the beads from the kit with more of the TCW Gel and brushed them onto the Prima flower vine. It makes me think of water droplets on the petals!

As you saw in the video, I was able to use items from previous Tres Jolie Kits to put this panel together! I love the fact that at the “end” of my Mixed Media Kit I have mediums left to add into my stash and use at a later date!

I hope you enjoyed this project and it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media Kit!

Stay Crafty, Friends

“Industrial Romance” Hot Air Balloon Mood Board Challenge

Hello again crafty friends! This week I am excited to share with u all this month’s project for the Mood Board Challenge for Tres Jolie Kits! For this project I used the September Scrapbook Kit. This beautiful kit is not only a vintage feel but a steampunk one too!

When I first seen this kit I immediately got the idea I wanted to create a paper Hot Air Balloon. This project had been on my crafty bucket list for a while now when I seen the one that Miranda MsLiberty25 created. I followed her tutorial for the hot air balloon its self. I knew I wanted to add an airship instead of a basket or gondola. So while looking around online, I came across a shop on Etsy who sold some wooden 3-D puzzles. So looking around on their shop, I came across a couple different models, I chose the cheaper and best size I figured would work best. It was a 176 piece puzzle that my husband and I enjoyed creating!! We are now thinking we want to purchase more for us to do together and perhaps get some for our grandsons.

I absolutely loved creating this hot air balloon and found this month’s kit went so well with the mood board that Kim has chosen for this month! I do hope that you will enter the challenge this month since it is still open the rest of this month. So I hope that you will join in.

I hope that you have been inspired by the project I created this month for the challenge! This month the rest of the team members of Tres Jolie created some wonderful projects so I hope you check out this blog daily where you can find more inspirational projects. Till next time!! Xoxo

Tres Jolie Kit Club – September 2020 Mixed Media Kit – Follow Along With Us

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

For my first project of the month I’m bringing you my “Follow Along with Us” Birdcage! I made this project using only items from this month’s Mixed Media Kit; even the “glue” was the gel medium that came in the kit!

Want to see how it was all done? Check out my video below!

I mixed some of the beads into some of the gel mixed with the Lindy’s Moon Shadow Mist and spread it on the back and bottom of the cage. For the outer base and the bars I mixed more gel with some Moon Shadow Mist and brushed it on like a paint. In that photo above you can really see the purple from the Lindy’s Moon Shadow Mist on the back panel!

For my bird, I brushed on a coat of the gel medium mixed with some of the Moon Shadow Mist, then sprinkled on some of the glitter. I also used the gel medium to adhere the bird to the cage bar!

After I placed my flowers where I wanted them (using the gel medium as the “glue”) I splattered some of the Moon Shadow Mist on them.

I hope you enjoyed this project and were able to follow along if you chose to! I’ll see you again soon with another project using the fabulous September Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie!

Stay Crafty, Friends!

Here are a couple of close ups but check out the little video below (it’s more of a slide show) with more details on a step by step of how this project came together.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you were inspired to create something beautiful today!

Tres Jolie Kit Club–August Mixed Media Kit–Altered Paintbrush

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

This week I have used items from the August Mixed Media kit, along with items from my stash, to create this altered paintbrush.

DSC_0106-FRAMED

I used the Prima Modeling Material with the Finnabair Mould to create the bust and flourishes, which I “painted” with the Lindy’s “Bayou Boogie Gold” Magical Powder, and after I prepared my paintbrush I used the Distress Oxide Sprays to add the background color. Check out my process video to see how everything came together!

DSC_0113-FRAMED DSC_0126-FRAMED

I used some Prima/Finnabair Crackle texture Paste on my background (from my stash) with a couple of stencils I have collected from previous Tres Jolie kits! After the paste had dried I used the three Distress Oxide Sprays from this month’s kit to give the background some color. Plus, I finished off two packs of flowers, both of which I had been hoarding from previous Tres Jolie kits.

DSC_0109-FRAMED DSC_0108-FRAMED

I love the mould that came in the kit this month, and I especially love that it is an item I will be able to keep in my stash to use over and over again! Some items, like the glitter I sprinkled about from a previous Tres Jolie kit, will (eventually) run out, but that mould will be in my stash forever!

DSC_0105-FRAMED

I hope you enjoyed this altered paintbrush and I hope it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media kit! Stay crafty!

Mixed Media “Trees by Streams of Water”

Happy Wednesday y’all!!  Michelle here, giving you a fun dose of mixed media today!!

Today I’m playing with the awesome Redesign Modeling Material by Redesign by Prima, Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Spray by Ranger & Lindys Magical metallic powder that were in the August mixed media kit.  I also picked out a stamp I liked with a simple, deep cut design to use that would make a good impression.

I started out by taking a good portion of the modeling material and pressing it flat on to a nonstick surface that I knew it would release easily from.  Then  I firmly stamped the rubber stamp into the modeling material.

I allowed the modeling material to dry, you can speed this up a bit with a heat gun but you may need to allow it to dry a few hours to overnight.

Next I sprayed the piece well with the “bundled sage” Distress Oxide Spray and lightly blotted the excess to create a unique effect.

Finally I applied a bit of water to my work surface and then began to dip my wet paint brush in the Lindy’s Magicals gold metallic powder, and then brushing along the edges and high spots of my stamped modeling material …rewetting my brush as needed.

I applied my finished piece on to a prepared mixed media canvas board.

If you would like to recreate the look of this board, I simply applied some texture medium that had a lot of grit to it and added some extra texture pebbles to the edges then painted the entire board black.  After it was dry I brushed on some of the gold Lindy’s magicals kinda like a rich water color, leaving it almost powdery in some spots for extra grit.  I then applied some light sage green acrylic paint to the raised textured areas and tucked some natural moss under my adhered stamped modeling material piece.

I’m pretty smitten with it and I hope you are too!  Hopefully this helps you think a bit out the box on how you can use the mediums included in this month’s amazing mixed media kit!!

Tres Jolie Kit Club–August 2020 Mixed Media Kit–*Follow Along With Us*

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you my “Follow Along With Us” project for the month using the August Mixed Media Kit. Now, I’m not going to lie, this project fought back! This was just one of those times that I was having problems getting my hands to do what my brain was picturing. As you’ll discover in the video, in the end I had to do a voice-over to explain what I did, but I’m rather pleased with the end result!

The stems are actually a rather happy accident. I didn’t originally plan for them to be “broken,” but when they came apart I realized I rather liked the look. Now, as I’ll also note in the video, I would paint the “Bayou Boogie Gold” Magical Powder on my mushrooms and stems before adding them to the canvas. If you do (and don’t add the “Antique Linen” first) they will match the flowers. If you do it the same way I did in the video then your mushrooms will look like mine here. When I was working on it I hadn’t planned to have them gold originally, but after I got them glued down I decided to make them pop off the canvas more! (Have I mentioned this project just wanted to fight me every step of the way? LOL!)

Check out my video and follow along!

You don’t need a mould to use modeling material! I formed my stems and mushrooms by hand! I didn’t try to make them the same or perfect, I just played around with the modeling material until I liked what I made. (Which isn’t in the video due to this project fighting me the whole time! If I remember correctly, I thought my camera was running, but I was mistaken. Sorry!!)

At some point in time, although I can’t say when exactly after everything this project put me through, I decided to cluster all the flowers from the mould together where the mushroom stems intersected!

Even though the acrylic sealer had an effect on the Oxide Spray, I can tell you that had not happened to me before, so I am thinking I should have set it aside longer to dry. I’m not disappointed, just surprised. And sometimes surprises work out!

I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you an idea or two about how to use the items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie! Thank you for joining us and I’ll see you again soon!

August 2020 Mixed Media Kit

In addition to items from this month’s mixed media kit (from previous Tres Jolie kits), I used:

*Little Birdie Black Gesso, Liquitex Matte Super Heavy Gel, Mod Podge Matte Acrylic Sealer

Tres Jolie Kit Club-July 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Art Deco

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you a décor piece I made using items from my stash, some epoxy, and the A.B. Studio chipboard & cut apart sheet and alcohol inks from this month’s kit.

DSC_0015-FRAMED

Waiting for the epoxy to set up was the most time-consuming part of this project, and the second most time-consuming part was trying to decide how to arrange the clusters. As you’ll see in the video below, I went through a few arrangements!

Video:

DSC_0033-FRAMED

Before pouring the epoxy, I coated the chipboard piece with some Lindy’s Embossing Powder.

DSC_0020-FRAMED

I just added drops of the alcohol ink to the epoxy and “dragged” the color around, but didn’t mix it in thoroughly, creating the ribbons of color.

DSC_0029-FRAMED

The clusters are made up mainly of the pieces cut from the A.B Studio sheet that came in the kit, but I added some odds and ends from my stash (that I had collected from previous Tres Jolie Kits!).

DSC_0022-FRAMED

As a note, the gel medium behind the cabochons eventually dried transparent!

DSC_0038-FRAMED

I set this up in a window so you could see how the light shines through.

I hope you enjoyed my project this week, and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done with the alcohol inks. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for more projects from the other members of the Tres Jolie Design Team and join our Facebook Group to see other subscriber’s projects!

July 2020 Mixed Media Kit:

Mixed Media kit

In addition to items from this months kit (*from previous Tres Jolie kits), I used:

Lindy’s Gang – *“Gossamer Gold” Moon Shadow Mist, *“Oakleaf Olive” Embossing Powder & *“Silence Is Golden” Embossing Powder, Creative Embellishments *“Pumpkin Vine Flourish,” *Darice Floral Embellishments “Yellow, Sweetwater Roses,” *white roses, Simon Says Stamp Clear Embossing Ink, Liquitex Matte Super Heavy Gel, Ranger Mini Mister, 70% Isopropyl Alcohol (AKA Rubbing Alcohol), Ranger Emboss It Dauber, Pro Marine Supplies Epoxy, jewelry making chain, cabochons

Mixed Media Mini Floral Canvas

Happy hump day y’all!!  Today I’m brining you a happy little mini canvas filled with vivid color and fun flowers.

This kit just made me happy!  I snuck in a couple of the big flowers from the scrapbook kit to add some variation but you could easily just use a combination of the flowers included in the mixed media kit.  I also added a pearl cross I had in my junk stash, you could use a recycled piece of jewelry for this, an old brooch, button or charm.

I started by rubbing the entire mini canvas (also from my art stash) with the Cosmic Shimmer Metallic Gilding Polish and then brushed it with the crackle paste and allowed it to dry.  You can speed this up with a heat tool.

Then I rubbed the larger flowers with the metallic gilding polish and then brushed the centers of the flowers with some of the Lindys magicals mixed with a bit of water.  I used the Lindy’s Magicals and water on the smaller flowers, this gave it bright, vivid color on the unprepared flower petals.

I then rubbed the entire canvas with some gold wax by Finnabar.  I also rubbed the flowers with a bit of it as well to give them a bit of extra shimmer.  Finally I glued it all together.

Take a peek at my process video to see how it all came together!

I hope you love it as much as I do!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-June 2020 Mixed Media Kit-“Today”

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you, well, “Today”!! A kind of shabby, kind of rustic memo board I created using items from the kit, items from my stash, and some scrap door casing.

DSC_0010-FRAMED

I love how the crackle paint came out on this! I gave me the aged look I was really wanting! Check the video to see how everything went together!

As I mentioned in the video, this project went together rather quickly! I let the flowers air dry so the color could bleed how it wanted, and with the help of my heat gun, the mediums were dry in no time!

Here are some close-ups of that beautiful cracking:

DSC_0014-FRAMED DSC_0017-FRAMED
DSC_0019-FRAMED DSC_0011-FRAMED

Aren’t those cracks just amazing? I think it’s some of the best cracking I’ve had. Ever!

DSC_0013-FRAMED

I love the bit of sparkle with Lindy’s Magical Powder, it goes so well with that shine from the Metallic Gilding Polish.

DSC_0015-FRAMED DSC_0018-FRAMED

To get that aged look on the frame I layered the crackle paste on top of a coat of Lindy’s Magical Powder. Because Lindy’s is water-based it was easily reactivated and absorbed by the paste!

DSC_0020-FRAMED

This isn’t in the video, because I thought of it later, but I added a light coating of some Tim Holtz Matte Collage Medium on clothespin that has the polish. Just enough to add some protection to being touched!

I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done using items from this month’s kit!
