Tres Jolie Kit Club-July 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Art Deco

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you a décor piece I made using items from my stash, some epoxy, and the A.B. Studio chipboard & cut apart sheet and alcohol inks from this month’s kit.

DSC_0015-FRAMED

Waiting for the epoxy to set up was the most time-consuming part of this project, and the second most time-consuming part was trying to decide how to arrange the clusters. As you’ll see in the video below, I went through a few arrangements!

Video:

DSC_0033-FRAMED

Before pouring the epoxy, I coated the chipboard piece with some Lindy’s Embossing Powder.

DSC_0020-FRAMED

I just added drops of the alcohol ink to the epoxy and “dragged” the color around, but didn’t mix it in thoroughly, creating the ribbons of color.

DSC_0029-FRAMED

The clusters are made up mainly of the pieces cut from the A.B Studio sheet that came in the kit, but I added some odds and ends from my stash (that I had collected from previous Tres Jolie Kits!).

DSC_0022-FRAMED

As a note, the gel medium behind the cabochons eventually dried transparent!

DSC_0038-FRAMED

I set this up in a window so you could see how the light shines through.

I hope you enjoyed my project this week, and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done with the alcohol inks. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for more projects from the other members of the Tres Jolie Design Team and join our Facebook Group to see other subscriber’s projects!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-June 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Altered Box

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you my third Mixed Media Kit project of June, an altered box. I’ve been keeping this box around since I ate the candy that was in it back in December. I knew I’d eventually find a way I wanted to use it!

DSC_0001-FRAMED

It took me building up a few layers of mediums to get the look I wanted, check out the video below to see how it all (finally!) came together.

DSC_0005-FRAMED DSC_0006-FRAMED

To the lid of the box, I added some ReneaBouquets Beautiful Board & “Candy” (flatbacks), cabochons, resin flowers from my stash, and some of the glass glitter that had come in the April 2020 Mixed Media Kit. For the roses, I used Lindy’s Magical Powder to give them their color, and the Gilding Polish on the cabochons.

DSC_0009-FRAMED

You can see how I made a double crackle effect by layering some Tim Holtz “Crazing” Distress Medium (from my stash) on top of the Cosmic Shimmer Crackle Paste from this month’s kit. Then, to really bring out the “Crazing” cracks, I rubbed in some of the Cosmic Shimmer Metallic Gilding Polish from the kit.

DSC_0008-FRAMED

I hope you enjoyed this project, and that it gave you some ideas of what the mediums can do that came with this month’s kit! I’ll see you again in July!

Mixed Media Mini Floral Canvas

Happy hump day y’all!!  Today I’m brining you a happy little mini canvas filled with vivid color and fun flowers.

This kit just made me happy!  I snuck in a couple of the big flowers from the scrapbook kit to add some variation but you could easily just use a combination of the flowers included in the mixed media kit.  I also added a pearl cross I had in my junk stash, you could use a recycled piece of jewelry for this, an old brooch, button or charm.

I started by rubbing the entire mini canvas (also from my art stash) with the Cosmic Shimmer Metallic Gilding Polish and then brushed it with the crackle paste and allowed it to dry.  You can speed this up with a heat tool.

Then I rubbed the larger flowers with the metallic gilding polish and then brushed the centers of the flowers with some of the Lindys magicals mixed with a bit of water.  I used the Lindy’s Magicals and water on the smaller flowers, this gave it bright, vivid color on the unprepared flower petals.

I then rubbed the entire canvas with some gold wax by Finnabar.  I also rubbed the flowers with a bit of it as well to give them a bit of extra shimmer.  Finally I glued it all together.

Take a peek at my process video to see how it all came together!

I hope you love it as much as I do!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-June 2020 Mixed Media Kit-“Today”

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you, well, “Today”!! A kind of shabby, kind of rustic memo board I created using items from the kit, items from my stash, and some scrap door casing.

DSC_0010-FRAMED

I love how the crackle paint came out on this! I gave me the aged look I was really wanting! Check the video to see how everything went together!

As I mentioned in the video, this project went together rather quickly! I let the flowers air dry so the color could bleed how it wanted, and with the help of my heat gun, the mediums were dry in no time!

Here are some close-ups of that beautiful cracking:

DSC_0014-FRAMED DSC_0017-FRAMED
DSC_0019-FRAMED DSC_0011-FRAMED

Aren’t those cracks just amazing? I think it’s some of the best cracking I’ve had. Ever!

DSC_0013-FRAMED

I love the bit of sparkle with Lindy’s Magical Powder, it goes so well with that shine from the Metallic Gilding Polish.

DSC_0015-FRAMED DSC_0018-FRAMED

To get that aged look on the frame I layered the crackle paste on top of a coat of Lindy’s Magical Powder. Because Lindy’s is water-based it was easily reactivated and absorbed by the paste!

DSC_0020-FRAMED

This isn’t in the video, because I thought of it later, but I added a light coating of some Tim Holtz Matte Collage Medium on clothespin that has the polish. Just enough to add some protection to being touched!

I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done using items from this month’s kit!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-June 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Hello

Hi, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie Kit Club blog! Can you believe it’s already June?

In case you missed the reveal post, this month marks the 2-year anniversary for the Tres Jolie Kit Club!! Huge shout out to Kim for putting fabulous kits together for the past two years!!

Now, on to my first project of the month!

DSC_0001-FRAMED

This kit gave me two of my favorite products, something metal, and something that has a crackle effect! And if having a metal envelope wasn’t enough, the Metallic Gilding Polish is a dream! Check out my video to see how I put this fabulous décor piece together!

Now, have a look at these close-ups!

DSC_0025-FRAMED

Look how smooth that Metallic Gilding Polish is! You’d never know it wasn’t the original color of the “hello” and the leaves!

DSC_0002-FRAMED

I’m a hoarder, especially when it comes to flowers! And these Prima flowers from previous Tres Jolie Kits were no exception! Kim is always generous with the flowers she adds to kits, which works perfect for those of us who may use them more sparingly, and those who don’t! You’ll always have enough!

DSC_0009-FRAMED

I love the teal, black, and grey of the flowers! They match the patina of the envelope, and compliment the pinks of the Lindy’s Gang Magical Powder & the Cosmic Shimmer Metallic Gilding Polish!

DSC_0006-FRAMED

Check out those cracks! Aren’t they fabulous?!?! As my final touch, I found a package of Prima Say It In Crystals in my stash that have gems that were the perfect match!

I hope you enjoyed this project & that it gave you some ideas of what to do with your kit this month!

On Lock Down – Mixed Media Journal Page

Happy Thursday y’all!  Hopefully y’all are enjoying your April kit and finding fun projects to do with all the products in your Tres Jolie kits!!  This month I’m designing with the Mixed Media Kit and it has a ton of wonderful art mediums to work with!  I had to take full advantage of all that art yumminess in my art journal!

Today I’m working in my little fun journal as I call it.  It’s just a little cheap journal I bought in the art section at Walmart but it gives me the freedom to just do whatever in it.  It’s small, has a ton of pages and I don’t have to worry about messing anything expensive up.  So grab you a cheap journal, or even an old book for that matter and get started as a fun journal.

For this page I just enjoyed the process so I didn’t really take any pics during the process but I’ll fill you in on what I did.

I started out by coating the entire page with gesso.  Once I did that I had a good prepped canvas.

Next I grabbed a large stencil and the Lindys Magical Shaker in “Glittering Gold”.  I used a wet paint brush and dabbed it on, applying it almost like a water color, allowing some thick spots because I liked the color variation.  In the end the color ran quite a bit under the stencil and there were a few color specs mixed in that changed to the pink color but I really loved the effect it made and I embraced it!

After that dried well I mixed the 13 Arts Gesso with a generous amount of the Lindys Magical Shaker in the “Alpine Ice Rose” shade and added a good amount of the Prima Texture Powder and mixed well.  I smeared that mixture along the bottom corner of the page then sprinkled with a few lines of the shaker powders as well as the Darice Glitter Glass.

The lock and the letters are both chipboard pieces from my stash made by A Vintage Girl.  For the lock I simply rubbed it well with my black chipboard then rubbed it with the Glimmering Gold shaker powder and a little of some Prima gold wax from a previous kit.  I then added some of the bling stones that I cut from the Darice Sticker Roll.  I also painted the stones with some turquoise paint from my stash and rubbed them with some gold wax to tone them down and antique them a bit.

The chipboard letters were treated similarly with a black stamp pad and then rubbed with some aqua paint then the gold glimmer powder and gold wax rub.

  2. Prima Marketing- Art Ingredients – Texture Powder

Mixed Media Egg for Easter with Rae

Happy Easter, everyone!

The April mixed media kit this month features large foam eggs and lots of pretty items. Take a look below: I have always loved those fancy Faberge eggs you see around, and this was the perfect opportunity to try that style out. Using a few things from my stash, here’s what I came up with:

I started out by prepping the egg by combining some 13 Arts gesso and the Prima Marketing texture powder to give the foam some “tooth.” Then, I added some of the pink Lindy’s mica powder.
Once dry, I added the Darice bling tape vertically to basically “trace” four equal horizontal sections.  Next, I added a row of white and a row of pink pearls next to each of the bling lines.

I HAD to add these roses from my stash- I started playing around by adding the white roses around the little cameo I added to the egg, and I soon realized that all of the sections would look awesome with roses, but I knew I didn’t have enough white roses, but that I had a TON of these little dark pink ones.  I’ve been saving these since I bought them at a Prima class that I went to a couple of years ago! Any roses, even handmade, would absolutely work for this project!

I finished off the egg b y adding a little gold crown stick pin I had hanging out. I hope you enjoyed seeing my take on using the mixed media kit.  Be sure to check back on the blog this month for more fun projects made with Tres Jolie kits

Altered Mixed Media Clock

Hello everyone!! This week I am back with this altered Clock that I created using some of the products from the March Cards, Tags, & More Kit.

I had the clock frame base , which is from Prima Marketing Finnabair products that I had in my stash for quite a while. This was the perfect size for what I wanted to create because I do have other brand and size but I felt this one had more space for me to do what I wanted to create on.

Other products I used aside from the March kit, I used products from DecoArt, FolkArt, 13@rts, Tim Holtz, G45, 7 Gypsies, Frank Garcia Memory Hardware.

This project was so much fun and I loved the colors that Kim had chose for the monthly kit! It made my project stand out more and I just kept adding and adding embellishments, I couldn’t stop!

I loved adding the vintage woman & girl paper dolls on the inside! I honestly can’t pick which I like more, that or the flower/gear/clock faces clusters I created on top of the clock and the outer side of it too!

I do hope that you like what I came up with using some of the items from the Cards, Tags, & More Kit March it. I’m excited with this entire kit, and looking forward to sharing the next project too! Till then I hope u come back and check out the rest of my teammates posts! They are super talented and show how to create with the other kits from Tres Jolie! Talk soon!!

Earring Holder Shadow Box

As some of you all know, in addition to paper crafts and mixed media arts, I am a jewelry designer with a small business.  I am always looking for fun ways to display and showcase jewelry pieces.  And with Valentine’s Day tomorrow, how cute would something like this be to present a pair of earrings to a friend, mother or sister?

This month in the mixed media kit we go that wonderful wooden shutter from Prima Marketing.  I thought and thought on a cool way to use it and I kept coming back to this jewelry display idea.

I love how it’s a great home decor piece that fits in well with the style of my home but it’s functional too…this girl loves a good functional piece!

So I started with a shadow box frame with wings in it that was given to me by a neighbor that was about to throw it out.  I knew it would make a great project so I’ve been hanging on to it for just the right decor piece.

Using the gold prima wax I rubbed the wings to highlight them and give them some great metallic shine.

I also rubbed the edges of the shutters with the gold wax

I painted the heart chipboard with white gesso then a coat of the prima acrylic paint before adding a layer of white crackle paint to tone it down a bit.  Next I finished off the look with a rub of the gold wax.

The Darice flower & mini grapevine heart made the perfect embelishement to put on top.

Inside I wrapped a piece of chickenwire ribbon around the inside and bent around the back before gluing and securing down to the shadow box.

You can see it here being used to display my Valentine earrings.

It really is a fun piece to play with and experiment, you could also place a photo or even a small piece of cork board inside the shutters for a different approach.

If you haven’t gotten your Mixed Media kit, you really should!  Here is the break down of what is in it…

Chicken Wire Shadowbox with Rae

Hello there. Today I am sharing my project that I made with the January Mixed Media kit, featuring this 12X12 Chicken Wire Shadowbox, A variety of of paints, including a weathered wood crackle medium, lovely Prima Marketing and Darice flowers, and some gorgeous chipboard elements from Creative Embellishments.

Here’s what I came up with.

I started out by using the purple paint on the wood box. Then I added the crackle medium. Once dry, I added the silver paint which gave the texture of random crackle on the box. Then, I lightly added some more of the purple and silver paints, basically giving it a bit of a dry brushing. Before it dried, I wiped off the paint with a baby wipe, and finished it by adding some purple chalk inks for some variety in color.

Next, I took a piece of the 49 and Market paper from the kit and hand drew a heart to cut out. Then I added some faux stitching with a sewing wheel and black marker. I also added some black lace from my stash around the heart.

Next, I used embossing powders to the chipboard quote and glued it on to the paper. Then I added the flowers from the kit. I had an extra pack of the white Prima Marketing flowers from the kit in my stash, so I used a few from that pack as well.

Lastly, I used embossing powders on the Creative Embellishments chipboard doily, cut it in half, and placed the halves on opposite corners of the shadowbox. I used the remaining purple flowers and a couple of the flowers from the scrapbook kit on the doily pieces.

End result:
