My Secret Love Shabby Purse Attache

Hello crafty friends! Today I am here on the Tres Jolie Blog to share with u this month’s first project where I use the October Cards, Tags, & More Kit from Tres Jolie. I absolutely was inspired by the beautiful projects that Tara Brown, a designer for Pion Designs. Her projects stand out and are very unique. So for this project I created, I followed one of her tutorials for this project which is a Purse Attaché.

I made the base with the white card stock that came in the kit, a couple of the papers from the Couture Creations paper collection, some of the ephemera pieces, flowers from the kit and one of the Creative Embellishments Chipboard  as well.

I did the base then when I finished cutting the design papers up, I used my Prima distress tool on all of the edges of the papers. Once they were adhered to the base, I went over them with gesso (from a previous Tres Jolie kit) and dry brushed on areas of the project. Once I did the embellishing on the lid and on the front side area, I went over those with the gesso as well. On the chipboard from Creative Embellishments, I used the same gesso on it .

On the lid, I did add a magnet so it would stay shut, I also added a wood piece & some Finnabair Art Pebbles from previous Tres Jolie kits as well.

On the inside I made some tabbed sections, days of the week. On the photo you can kind of see the alphas I used which were some older ones I had in my stash from Basic Grey. They are pretty light so I apologize for my photo being hard to see. I then added some of the post cards from the Ephemera Package in those slots.

But you can make this however you want, you can put month’s on there, or even use this cute purse as a recipe box too. I do hope you like what I created and try it out yourselves. Since the holiday’s are coming up quick, I think these would make cute gifts too. While your on Tara’s website, I hope you will look at all of the beautiful creations she has done through out the years!! See you all next week! Till then I hope you will visit daily to find some of the rest of the Tres Jolie designers share their amazing projects using the Scrapbook and Mixed Media kits! Also don’t forget to join this month’s sketch challenge.

Xoxo,

Jeanne

Tres Jolie Kit Club–August 2020 Sketch-“This Beautiful Life”

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

This week I am bringing you a layout I created for this month’s sketch challenge using the August 2020 Scrapbooking Kit! This kit includes the scrumptious “Diva” papers from A.B. Studio, some beautiful Prima flowers and ephemera, chipboard from Dusty Attic and Scrapaholics, and a pack of resin pieces from Scrapberry. DSC_0005-FRAMED

I just adore the “Diva” Collection, and it took me a little while to figure out exactly what I was going to do with it, and to tell the truth, the large cut out bonus piece in the pack did a lot of the work for me! Check out the sketch this month, then look below it to see my process video!

To add a little texture to the background I did some water distressing along the edge of the blue-grey paper and added some light stenciling, using an Art Anthology stencil and some texture paste from my stash, where it would peek out from behind my layers.

Even though fussy cutting isn’t my most favorite part of crafting, I just had to add in some of the black & white flowers and foliage from the cut apart sheet in the “Diva” collection. For my chipboard keys and ornaments I pulled out a couple of Prima Fluid Chalks (that came in previous Tres Jolie kits) and just dabbed them on!

Those Prima flowers were the perfect complement to the “Diva” papers, and the pack of “Darcelle” ephemera gave me the piece I needed for the perfect title.

Secret Garden Gate

Hey Y’all, Michelle here!!  Poppin’ in to show you guys a lil something that I made with the July mixed media kit this week!

Welcome to the Secret Garden!!  This little garden gate really doesn’t show it’s true beauty till you hold it up to the light.

See what I mean?!

But I’m getting ahead of myself, first let me get to how it was made…

First I started out with a piece of 12×12 transparent scrapbooking paper, I used a sheet of printed 13 Arts acetate from a previous kit but you could use whatever transparency/acetate paper you may have.  Next I gathered my ranger alcohol inks from the kit and began applying them.  *disclaimer* I’m not the best with these things so I’m a little all over the place with them…and that’s ok, they are very forgiving.

I went for a gradation and started with the darkest color first and went from there.  I also used an alcohol blending solution from my stash that ranger also makes.  This isn’t  really needed but it did help keep the inks moving a bit, you could also squirt a tiny bit of high content rubbing alcohol as well.  Lastly I added dots of the white.  I used my heat gun to move the inks around as well as continued to move the paper around a lot.

While that was drying I moved on to painting the chipboard piece by AB Studio.  Can I just say how fab this Art Deco beauty is?  Anyway, I used the 13 Arts gesso from a previous kit but you could also use regular old acrylic as well.

Next you will need to make your “doors”.   For some reason I immediately saw doors when I looked at this piece so I had to go with that.  I found what looked like a good cut off area to make cuts and snipped the chipboard, careful to leave the area attached on the sides that would form the hinges.

After the chipboard was complete and the inks were all dried I laid the chipboard on top the transparency, traced it and cut the transparency the same size and shape as the chipboard then adhered the two together.

Then I began to assemble my flowers for the center.  I cut out a small scrap of paper (I just used the packaging from the flowers) and began arranging my flowers to that and then transferred them to the center of the door opening.

Finally I punched two holes at the top and ran a scrap of silk cording from my stash to hang it from…and done!

I hope this has inspired you!

If you are more visual like me and need to SEE it done, take a peek at my video and see how I did it!

On Lock Down – Mixed Media Journal Page

Happy Thursday y’all!  Hopefully y’all are enjoying your April kit and finding fun projects to do with all the products in your Tres Jolie kits!!  This month I’m designing with the Mixed Media Kit and it has a ton of wonderful art mediums to work with!  I had to take full advantage of all that art yumminess in my art journal!

Today I’m working in my little fun journal as I call it.  It’s just a little cheap journal I bought in the art section at Walmart but it gives me the freedom to just do whatever in it.  It’s small, has a ton of pages and I don’t have to worry about messing anything expensive up.  So grab you a cheap journal, or even an old book for that matter and get started as a fun journal.

For this page I just enjoyed the process so I didn’t really take any pics during the process but I’ll fill you in on what I did.

I started out by coating the entire page with gesso.  Once I did that I had a good prepped canvas.

Next I grabbed a large stencil and the Lindys Magical Shaker in “Glittering Gold”.  I used a wet paint brush and dabbed it on, applying it almost like a water color, allowing some thick spots because I liked the color variation.  In the end the color ran quite a bit under the stencil and there were a few color specs mixed in that changed to the pink color but I really loved the effect it made and I embraced it!

After that dried well I mixed the 13 Arts Gesso with a generous amount of the Lindys Magical Shaker in the “Alpine Ice Rose” shade and added a good amount of the Prima Texture Powder and mixed well.  I smeared that mixture along the bottom corner of the page then sprinkled with a few lines of the shaker powders as well as the Darice Glitter Glass.

The lock and the letters are both chipboard pieces from my stash made by A Vintage Girl.  For the lock I simply rubbed it well with my black chipboard then rubbed it with the Glimmering Gold shaker powder and a little of some Prima gold wax from a previous kit.  I then added some of the bling stones that I cut from the Darice Sticker Roll.  I also painted the stones with some turquoise paint from my stash and rubbed them with some gold wax to tone them down and antique them a bit.

The chipboard letters were treated similarly with a black stamp pad and then rubbed with some aqua paint then the gold glimmer powder and gold wax rub.

Hump Day Two for One!!

Happy Hump Day!!  Today I’m working predominately with the March Scrapbook kit.  I normally stick with the Mixed Media kit but this month the scrapbook kit looked so amazing that I had to get it!

I am somewhat out of practice with my scrapbooking but I had to give it a go and do some catching up on some of my pics.  Since I wasn’t sure of my direction I didn’t do a video but rather took pictures as I went to show you how it came together.

I started out with the clover chipboard circle and painted it with some of the olive green acrylic paint from the mixed media kit I got this month.

Next I applied the gel medium (also from the mixed media kit) to the edges of the clovers and sprinkled two kinds of glitter on them.

I then set that aside and smeared on some gold crackle texture paste from my stash to the left corner of my page to both add a crackle element as well as to adhere my chipboard clovers down to the page.

I then positioned my photo and clovers and pressed them into the paste.  I added a bit of adhesive to the top corners of the photo to make sure it stayed in place.

I also added a few flowers tucked in the scrolls of the chipboard to give it a finishing touch.

Here is a pic of the complete Scrapbook kit.

NOW…for my BONUS project!!  As I said, I’m normally a mixed media gal…so I had my March mixed media kit that I still had TONS of supplies left in (because it was packed this month y’all!) and since I’m a jewelry maker by trade I whipped up this little cutie!

For this one you just need to use an epoxy graft glue like E600 to glue the metal pieces together (you can use hot glue in a pinch but it may not last after a bit of wear).  Next attach the chain with jump rings using a couple pair of needle nose jewelry pliers, adding a clasp at the back.

Here is the complete mixed media kit below.

Altered Cutting Board Project

Hey guys!!!  Happy Tuesday!!  Today I’m sharing my fun altered cutting board projects from the March Mixed Media kit.

I started out with the natural cutting board Darice and gave it a thin coat of the olive green paint from 13 Arts.

I allowed the olive green acrylic paint to dry well

Next I sanded the entire board down well, paying close attention to the edges.  I really wanted the grain of the wood to show through.   You could use an electric sander for this part.

I used some letter stickers to apply the word “Family”.  If you have a vinyl cutter, that would work well for this.

Next I applied a good coat of the 13 Arts “Cafe Au Lait” acrylic paint and allowed it to dry well.  I then rubbed it with the gold Prima wax from last month’s kit.

I assembled the entire thing on the board with hot glue, layering on the scrapaholics brick chipboard that I painted with acrylic paints, coated with some modeling paste and then gave it a good rub with some gold metallic wax.

Mixed Media Kit Contents:

  1. Darice – Wood – Cutting board
  2. 49 & Market – Flower Series Mini – Ginger
  3. Prima Marketing- Memory Hardware – Frames
  4. Prima Marketing- Mechanicals – Butterflies
  5. 13 Arts – Gel Medium
  6. 13 Arts – Acrylic Paint – Cafe Au Lait
  7. 13 Arts – Acrylic Paint – Olive Green
  8. 13 Arts – Transparency Sheet – Rhapsody

The Heart That’s Meant To Love You

So it’s the end of my mixed media kit and I’m still playing with all the yummy paints and chipboard!  LOL!  This week I got in my art journal and just played!

After I gessoed my journal page I reached for some gold crackle paste from my stash to give a good squishy layer to press that chipboard into to give it an embedded look.

Once I pressed the Creative Embellishments chipboard in I smoothed a bit of the paste over the top in a place or two to make the chipboard really feel like part of the page.

I set the page aside to let it dry overnight so the crackle could really emerge and develop.

Once the crackle developed and dried I got to work with all my mixed media goodies!

I pulled out the beautiful pink Prima acrylics in the February kit and lightly brushed them over the crazed page, even watering them down a bit to create a watercolor effect over the white portions of the page.

I dropped some black ink in areas and let it just find it’s way through the cracks and I inked the raised areas of the chipboard and the edges of the pages with a stamp pad.

I added back some of the gold shine by rubbing some areas with the gold prima wax.

Next I added some black graphite texture paste from my stash and sprinkled some gold glitter while it was still wet.

Finally I finished it all off with some emelishements, a cute Vintage Girl sticker raised with pop dots and a Tim Holtz paper doll die cut.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all do something beautiful today!!

Earring Holder Shadow Box

As some of you all know, in addition to paper crafts and mixed media arts, I am a jewelry designer with a small business.  I am always looking for fun ways to display and showcase jewelry pieces.  And with Valentine’s Day tomorrow, how cute would something like this be to present a pair of earrings to a friend, mother or sister?

This month in the mixed media kit we go that wonderful wooden shutter from Prima Marketing.  I thought and thought on a cool way to use it and I kept coming back to this jewelry display idea.

I love how it’s a great home decor piece that fits in well with the style of my home but it’s functional too…this girl loves a good functional piece!

So I started with a shadow box frame with wings in it that was given to me by a neighbor that was about to throw it out.  I knew it would make a great project so I’ve been hanging on to it for just the right decor piece.

Using the gold prima wax I rubbed the wings to highlight them and give them some great metallic shine.

I also rubbed the edges of the shutters with the gold wax

I painted the heart chipboard with white gesso then a coat of the prima acrylic paint before adding a layer of white crackle paint to tone it down a bit.  Next I finished off the look with a rub of the gold wax.

The Darice flower & mini grapevine heart made the perfect embelishement to put on top.

Inside I wrapped a piece of chickenwire ribbon around the inside and bent around the back before gluing and securing down to the shadow box.

You can see it here being used to display my Valentine earrings.

It really is a fun piece to play with and experiment, you could also place a photo or even a small piece of cork board inside the shutters for a different approach.

If you haven’t gotten your Mixed Media kit, you really should!  Here is the break down of what is in it…

Unbound Heart

Hey y’all and happy Thursday!!  Today I’m working with the fun valentine themed Mixed Media kit and know you are going to love it!

I started with the burlap heart by Darice, spray painting it with a light coat of white paint.

Next I did some painting effects on the Darice Flower embellishments with the Prima Marketing- Art Alchemy -Sparks Acrylic Paint in both the shades provided in the kit.   I also added some texture paste and sprinkled some coarse glitter to add more texture and shine.

Next I painted more of the acrylic paint on to the Creative Embellishment chipboard piece (mine was a heart cluster but the actual kit will include a phrase sentiment as pictured in the kit photo below).  Finally I added a photo embellishment.

I also rubbed all of the grapevine twig portions of the heart with the Prima gold wax so it resembled metal or wire.  I finished it off with a ribbon to hang it.

I love how it looks hanging in my home!

Check out the process video below for a closer look and more details on how it all came together.
