“Lovely” Layout with Rae

Happy Sunday, crafty people!

Today I’m sharing another layout I made with the August scrapbook kit, featuring the AB Studios Diva collection:

I love all the kits, but I think this one may be my favorite yet.  The tones and color combination are beautiful, so much so that I had to buy another kit because I have so many ideas for it!

As soon as I saw the “I was Here” paper (the purple piece with the white floral ghost images), I knew how I wanted to design a layout with it- I lifted myself!  Do you ever do that? Sometimes I just have a design in my head that I like to repeat with different products. I also I wanted to play with using white on the rest of the layout.

This is what I came up with:

I started out by ripping the “Love on Top” paper (the more plain of the purple papers) almost diagonally in half, and gluing it on the base paper.  From there I added some stenciling (Prima Marketing: Finnabair) with some white crackle paste along the diagonal torn edge of the paper.

I added a few paper layers to the photo mat- some pieces are from the tags from the cut out page in the kit.  I used cardboard in between some of the layers for added dimension.  The circle is a random piece of chipboard “left over” from a chipboard piece that I had in my stash.  I painted it grey with acrylic paint, then added some pearls (from the August card kit).

Then, I made two floral clusters that somewhat mirror each other for balance.  I added a bunch of Prima Marketing flowers from the kit, as well as a few of my own (Prima Marketing, Moon Child collection).  I also added some fussy-cut floral images from the paper, applique white bows from the stash, and some die cut sprigs (I used regular printer paper- it’s cheap and allows for more flow).

I finished the layout by adding a title- I fussy cut the ephemera piece from the kit (Prima Marketing, Darcelle collection), and I added a Scrapaholic key that I painted grey and randomly applied some multi-color embossing powder for a distressed look.  I also added some more of the white floral die cuts, and some crystals from my stash (again from the Prima Marketing, Darcelle collection).

“Hope” Layout with Rae

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Our August kit reveal was last week, and I am so in love with everything, especially the scrapbook kit featuring the AB Studios collection, Diva. Here’s another look:

The color combo is amazingly beautiful, and the paper is beyond gorgeous!  As soon as I saw the paper, I knew exactly what I was going to do for our sketch challenge this month.  Take a look at the sketch Kim made:

And here’s what I came up with:

I adore the “bonus sheet” from the Diva collection- it was perfect as a base for the sketch! In fact, the graphics on the sheet, paired with the images to fussy cut made this an incredibly simple layout.  There’s no stamping or stenciling and it still feels “complete.”

In the closeup below, you can see the punching- I cut the base paper right at the end of the design on the paper, then used a edge punch on the inside of both pieces.  You can also see the many images that I fussy cut- I typically cut right at the edge of the design, but for something different to do, I left a tiny white edge and I like how it came out.

I didn’t just add the fussy cut flowers and leaves to the flower clusters- I also add them randomly on the page for added dimension and a slightly different flow of the design.

The blue chipboard is from Dusty Attic- I love these, and I’m so happy Kim paired them with this paper collection.  I shabbily painted the pieces with white acrylic paint, then embossed them with powder from my stash (Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Powder Glaze in Speckled Egg).

You can also see one of the Scrapapholic chipboard fancy keys- I painted those with a grey acrylic paint, then randomly added some black and white embossing powders.

In this closeup below, you can see the many layers of fussy cutting and tags I used for the design. I added white twine to the tags.

I also added twine to the metal title tag (from my stash). I added some grey acrylic paint to the tag for a distressed effect, which made it hard to capture sharply in a picture.  It reads, “Hope is a thing with feathers that perches in the soul”- an Emily Dickinson quote.

Mixed Media Panel with Rae

Happy Sunday!

By now you’ve seen a number of stunning projects made with the July Mixed Media kit by our design team.  This kit was so much fun to work with!

Alcohol inks, beautiful flowers, a whole page page of elements to fussy cut, and two different projects from AB Studios: a 12X12 chipboard panel and acrylic gear pieces.  I decided to use the chipboard panel:

I began by adding some clear matte embossing powder to the panel.  Then I added the orange and yellow alcohol inks to most of the panel, and added a bit of purple to round it out.  I let the ink dry, then I gave the entire piece a heavy coating of the snow cap alcohol ink then I blasted the wet ink with a heat gun until it bubbled and dried creating a layered distressed effect.  You can see how the finish looks in the closeups:

I used a Prima resin frame from my stash to create a focal point for the project.  If you don’t have anything similar, a cut out image of a frame, or just some paper layers would work just as well.

I cut several flowers from the AB Studios paper and added them to poke out from under the actual flowers, all of which are 49 and Market.  (The small purple ones are from my stash.)  I whitewashed the flowers with diluted gesso to soften the look of the project.

I added a Prima Marketing resin dragonfly from the scrapbook kit to complete the project.  I added some alcohol ink (purple and orange) as well as some gold wax past for a shimmery finish.

Once all the ink was dried and set I moved on to the flowers.  I cut out lots of the flowers from the “Beautiful Things” patterned paper by AB Studios and began to layer them with pop dots and tucked some of the 49 & Market flowers in for added dimension.

I rubbed all the edges & flowers with gold acrylic paint from my stash.

Lastly I added a fun title with a sticker from my stash using pop dots to give it dimension as well.

Shabby Little Mini Book

Happy Wednesday y’all!!

Now y’all know I like to mix things up a bit!  LOL!  I normally get the mixed media kit but this month I got both the mixed media kit and the scrapbook kit, so this little mini is made with this month’s scrapbook kit.

When I opened up that scrapbook kit and saw those cute stitched frames by 49 & Market I knew I was going to be making this mini!  And the cardstock by AB Studio was just perfectly designed to make these little pages…these pages were all cut from one sheet of cardstock!

I knew they would be perfect to frame up those lovely designs on the AB Studio cardstock!  For this I just cut the cardstock to fit the frames and glued them to the back side of the frames.  I then cut a small strip of scrap card stock and taped it to the back left of each “page” to help form more of an area that could but used as a spine.  More on how I used that additional edge in a bit.

Next I turned my attention to the cover, I added a part of the chipboard chain and gears.  I just cut a portion of the design and I painted it with some of the white crackle paste I had sitting on my desk from the mixed media kit.  Although it didn’t really crackle since I wan’t using it in the way crackle paste should be used to crackle properly, I do like how it looks.  You could absolutely just use whatever white paint you have.  I also inked it with a brown ink pad along the edges before glueing it down.

Here you can see that additional scrap cardstock I used to create a bit of a spine.  I used my standard size hole punch to punch two holes in it (all the way through each sheet) and ran the lace through to form the binding of the book, tying it in the front of the book.

I used the same white crackle paste from the mixed media kit to paint the Darice flowers and sprinkled some gold glitter from one of my previous kits on them.  I also tucked on the the Tim Holtz Timepiece watch faces in there as well after giving it a quick wipe with some white paint.

As you can see the book is not filled just yet, I can’t decide how I want to use it but I couldn’t let the opportunity pass to create it and now it’s made and ready to fill!  It will be a great gift or quick art journal when the mood strikes me!

Thanks for stoping by today!
