Simple , Unique But Beautiful Layout

Hello crafty friends! This week I am back sharing a layout where I have created my own background design for my layout!

I really loved creating this layout using this month’s Cards, Tags & More Kit

You can view a quick process video of how I created this using a few, simple supplies that you most likely have in your crafty stash!!

I began by adhering a 12×12 sheet of light yellow card stock from American Crafts , onto a 12×12 white chipboard sheet. I then trimmed a sheet of white card stock to that yellow one but before adhering it I went along the edges using some of the Tonic Studios Embellishment Nuvo mousse   in Custard cream. I then applied some 13@arts White Gesso from a previous kit onto areas of the card stock for when I add some colors using a shimmer spray from Recollections Simply Pastel Yellow and I also added some Tim Holtz Distress Stain in Spun Sugar. I heat dried it then added some white cheese cloth for some added dimension.

I then added some of the lace from the kit and then I took a couple of sheets from the Simple Stories Vintage Garden District Paper Pad from the kit and tore some of pieces of paper to add onto the edges mainly . Before adhering the torn paper to the layout I went over the edges using one of my favorite products, the Tonic Studios Nuvo Embellishment Mousse in Custard Cream color.

I want the frames from the collection to be my main focus on my layout.  Then on back of the frames I had added some light pink card stock from the kit and some pop dots which made it easier for me to add the photos of my grand daughters since I hadn’t printed them and added them right away to my layout.

So that was basically a quick over view of my project! I hope that you liked what I came up with using this month’s kit and also please don’t forget that you still have time to enter the 2 year anniversary challenge going on this month for Tres Jolie Kits!!

Talk to you all soon!! Hope u have a great weekend!!

Hugs,

Jeanne

Tres Jolie Kit Club–May 2020 Sketch

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog! Today I’m bringing you a quick little layout I created for this month’s sketch challenge!

DSC_0001-FRAMED

I had a very craft-filled May, and by the time I got to this project I had one whole sheet of the beautiful Craft o’Clock paper left! There was a time when the thought of using such a “busy” pattern as a background would have terrified me, but I have learned sometimes less is more, so I kept everything else simple! (Sketch below the video)

Check out my video for the process!

Behind the smaller cluster in the upper-left corner and behind the photo layers I added a touch of stenciling using the “Golden Glaze” paint (mixed with some 13@rts MAGIC! Powder) and a homemade texture paste that contains some of the “Caribbean Teal” paint, both [paints] from this month’s mixed media kit. Also, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, the teal flowers on this layout were from the Prima “vine” that came in the kit! Don’t be afraid to cut things apart if needed to make them work better for your purpose!

DSC_0007-FRAMED

I didn’t want to just plant the photo directly on the background, so I used some torn pieces of papers from the kit, some tissue paper, and the square, white frame from the chipboard (cut apart!) behind the photo! Then I added one of the chipboard tabs!

The beautiful black and gold butterflies were the final touch needed for this layout! They provide just the right amount of accent!

Tres Jolie Kit Club–iNSD 2020 Challenge–Masculine Layout

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog! Here are some more photos and a video of the project I did for Rae’s “Masculine Layout” challenge for International Scrapbooking Day (iNSD)!

To recap, the challenge was to create a masculine layout that included stenciling and chipboard, plus a bonus for using flowers! I used four stencils, I have a piece of chipboard from the May scrapbooking kit and some Grungeboard from my stash, and I got the flowers on…something that isn’t always easy with a “masculine” layout! Plus, and I like to think my subconscious was helping me out here, my layout fits this month’s sketch challenge (with the sketch rotated 180°, shown below).

I layered my stenciling on top of each other before topping with my Grungeboard chevrons! With all the stenciling, there was already so much going on that I opted to keep it relatively simple around the photo.
DSC_0010-FRAMED DSC_0014-FRAMED
I created the colors I wanted for both of the texture pastes using the paints from the Mixed Media kit & items from my stash (see video for full details!) The chevrons were painted with just simple black gesso (from the Mixed Media kit! to keep them nice and matte!

Getting flowers on a masculine layout isn’t always easy, but I dug into my stash and pulled out pack of neutral flowers. I don’t know how long I’ve owned those Tim Holtz Framed Words, but I found a place for “Adventure” with this layout!

I hope that you were able to join us over at Tres Jolie for the iNSD challenges! I also hope that this layout gave you an idea of what can be done with items from the kits this month, and with the sketch!

Tres Jolie Kit Club–May 2020 Mixed Media Kit–Grunge Canvas

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog! Today I am bringing you my first official project of the month using the May Mixed Media Kit! (I say official because some of the mediums made their way onto my projects for the iNSD challenges over this past weekend!)

For my first project, I made a Steampunk/Grunge piece using the canvas, the mediums, one of the VHS reels, and the pack of Prima Trinkets.

DSC_0012-FRAMED

My thought process for the coloring was rather simple! I was just sitting and staring at the mediums and ended up thinking “Yellow & Blue make Green!” Or in this case, gold and blue make teal!!

Check out the video to see how I put all this together:

Now, how about some close-ups?

DSC_0014-FRAMED DSC_0020-FRAMED
I made built up some texture paste at the upper left and lower right corners before adding the wax and paint! I had a mix of chipboard and metal embellishments, but brought them together with paint!
DSC_0022-FRAMED DSC_0026-FRAMED
I stacked and stacked to give dimension to my canvas and added three contrasting Prima Pebbles as a final touch! Even though I have a lot of different textures, keeping with the same color as the paint kept it from being overwhelming!

DSC_0021-FRAMED

I hope this project gave you some ideas of what you can do with items from this month’s Mixed Media Kit! I’ll be back on YouTube and the blog on the 15th with another Mixed Media project! Keep an eye out for projects from the other Tres Jolie Designers! And don’t forget to visit the Tres Jolie Kit Club Café and check out the sketch and mood board challenges!

“Love” Gift Box with Rae

Hello, and Happy Thursday!

Today I am sharing my last project made with the April kit.  I have had so much fun with these 13 Arts papers- the Rosalie collection is perfect!

I love to alter gift boxes.  I have a tote full of them, and I love that because when I give a gift, I have some pretty options on hand to give the gift a personal touch.

Here’s the box I made:

This is a box that a cell phone case came in- it’s perfect for gift cards or really small things! I started out by adding some stenciling with texture paste to the paper with vintage ads on it.

I cut a doily from the Bo Bunny Double Dot paper for my base of the design.  Then I added some vines that I cut from the black patterned paper from the kit that were extras from a layout I made where I used some embossing powder on for a greenish hue.  Next, I added some embossing ink to some of the stenciling and around the edges of the box, and then I added some of the amazing Lindy’s embossing powder in the kit, and hit it with the heat gun.
I tucked in the vines under the roses.  I also added some pearls and string.  The bird cage and “love” title is form the 13 Arts Ephemera collection that goes with the Rosalie collection.

Thanks for checking out the blog! Be sure to join us on Saturday for our May reveal and NSD activities!

Friendship Layout with Rae

Happy Sunday!

Today I’m sharing another layout I made with the April scrapbook kit featuring the 13 Arts Rosalie paper collection:

I ADORE these papers! The color palette is sophisticated and the designs are so beautiful. I started out by building the background which I kept simple: I distressed the edges of the beige paper and rolled some of the rips, then glued it to the paper with newspaper ads so it would peak through.

I cut up some of the pink paper into quarter-inch strips and weaved them at the edges to make a place for the picture and the rest of the layering to go.

I layered some of the papers, ephemera, and lace stickers from my stash under the photo.  I also added the Creative Embellishments chipboard oval frame and some die cut vines, as well as some small rhinestones I had.

For the chipboard, I treated it with the Lindy’s embossing powder from the kit, then on the leaves, I embossed it again with the new Tim Holtz Distress embossing glaze in green.  In the closeup you can see how it gives a subtle green hue.  I also used that green embossing glaze over the die cut vines: I used it over the 13 Arts black patterned paper.

I finished off the layout by adding the beautiful Prima Marketing pink roses, and a title from my stash.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today!

My Parents Vintage Love Layout

Hello crafty friends!! I hope that everyone is keeping themselves as safe as they possibly can and most importantly staying home even though it’s a hard thing to do but the way I see things is that we should comply this way we get back to our “NORMAL” lives! That’s at least my goal! Anyhow aside from this I am back this week to share with you all my layout for this month’s sketch challenge for Tres Jolie kits! I absolutely loved creating this layout! This layout is very special to me because the photo that I used is of my parents in front of our family home & my mother was about 8 months pregnant with me here!

My mom was the age that I currently am now when she got pregnant with me, I was that menopause “oops” baby haha! But all turned out good, I had a wonderful childhood with my family and I have already lost both my parents but I’m so grateful for all of the photos and memories that I am left with. This is one of the main reasons that I began my crafting journey! As I am sure that is a reason most of you do this as well!

So for this month’s sketch challenge I used the April Scrapbook Kit, I also used the large chipboard clock from this month’s Cards, Tags, & More kit. I also used some trims and from my stash. A couple of stamps and distress inks from my stash as well. It wasn’t hard to create at all, I just took a little time creating it because of it’s meaning to me.

I hope that you enjoyed what I created this month for the Tres Jolie Sketch Challenge and join in! I hope that you also find inspiration in my layout as well as the other designers from Tres Jolie and of course find inspiration in each other! Especially during these times when we can all come together more!

On Lock Down – Mixed Media Journal Page

Happy Thursday y’all!  Hopefully y’all are enjoying your April kit and finding fun projects to do with all the products in your Tres Jolie kits!!  This month I’m designing with the Mixed Media Kit and it has a ton of wonderful art mediums to work with!  I had to take full advantage of all that art yumminess in my art journal!

Today I’m working in my little fun journal as I call it.  It’s just a little cheap journal I bought in the art section at Walmart but it gives me the freedom to just do whatever in it.  It’s small, has a ton of pages and I don’t have to worry about messing anything expensive up.  So grab you a cheap journal, or even an old book for that matter and get started as a fun journal.

For this page I just enjoyed the process so I didn’t really take any pics during the process but I’ll fill you in on what I did.

I started out by coating the entire page with gesso.  Once I did that I had a good prepped canvas.

Next I grabbed a large stencil and the Lindys Magical Shaker in “Glittering Gold”.  I used a wet paint brush and dabbed it on, applying it almost like a water color, allowing some thick spots because I liked the color variation.  In the end the color ran quite a bit under the stencil and there were a few color specs mixed in that changed to the pink color but I really loved the effect it made and I embraced it!

After that dried well I mixed the 13 Arts Gesso with a generous amount of the Lindys Magical Shaker in the “Alpine Ice Rose” shade and added a good amount of the Prima Texture Powder and mixed well.  I smeared that mixture along the bottom corner of the page then sprinkled with a few lines of the shaker powders as well as the Darice Glitter Glass.

The lock and the letters are both chipboard pieces from my stash made by A Vintage Girl.  For the lock I simply rubbed it well with my black chipboard then rubbed it with the Glimmering Gold shaker powder and a little of some Prima gold wax from a previous kit.  I then added some of the bling stones that I cut from the Darice Sticker Roll.  I also painted the stones with some turquoise paint from my stash and rubbed them with some gold wax to tone them down and antique them a bit.

The chipboard letters were treated similarly with a black stamp pad and then rubbed with some aqua paint then the gold glimmer powder and gold wax rub.

Complete Mixed Media Kit Supplies:

  1. Tres Jolie – Foam – Easter Eggs
  2. Prima Marketing- Art Ingredients – Texture Powder
  3. 13 Arts – Gesso
  4. Lindys – Magical Shaker – Glittering Gold
  5. Lindys – Magical Shaker – Alpine Ice Rose
  6. Darice – Glass Pearls – Vintage Rose
  7. Darice – Glass Pearls – White
  8. Darice – Glitter Glass – Vintage Gold
  9. Darice – Sticker Roll – Crystal Bling

**Other Items used:  A Vintage Girl Chipboard Pieces, Prima gold wax, Tim Holtz calendar die cut,   aqua acrylic paint

Tres Jolie Kit Club–April 2020 Mixed Media Kit–Spring Flower Pots

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I have some spring flower pots I decorated with items from the kit and multiple partial packs of flowers from my stash!

DSC_0033_FRAMED

Below is the video of what I did! This project was rather quick and simple, and in no time I had a lovely trio of flower pots to help bring in spring!

Video:

DSC_0029_FRAMED DSC_0032_FRAMED

To coat my flower pots I mixed some texture paste with the gesso and texture powder from the kit. After that dried, I spritzed the pots with water, sprinkled some of the “Alpine Ice Rose” Magical Shakers on, and spritzed some water on again. When that dried, I sprayed the flower pots with ModPodge Acrylic Sealer to keep the Magical Shaker in place.

DSC_0026_FRAMED DSC_0027_FRAMED

Even though the bling from the kit is self adhesive, I added some extra FabriTac before wrapping the tops of the pots, just to be safe!

I filled the flower pots with some floral moss from Dollar Tree, and was able to finish off three partial packs of flowers and a package of leaves!

DSC_0025_FRAMED

I hope this gave you some ideas of what can be done with this months kit! I spent $2 (+tax!) at the Dollar Tree for the 3-pack of pots and the bag of moss (and I still have lots of moss left!!), added items from this months kit, and cleared out some of my hoarded flowers to create this little spring décor piece!

Mixed Media Egg for Easter with Rae

Happy Easter, everyone!

The April mixed media kit this month features large foam eggs and lots of pretty items. Take a look below: I have always loved those fancy Faberge eggs you see around, and this was the perfect opportunity to try that style out. Using a few things from my stash, here’s what I came up with:

I started out by prepping the egg by combining some 13 Arts gesso and the Prima Marketing texture powder to give the foam some “tooth.” Then, I added some of the pink Lindy’s mica powder.
Once dry, I added the Darice bling tape vertically to basically “trace” four equal horizontal sections.  Next, I added a row of white and a row of pink pearls next to each of the bling lines.

I HAD to add these roses from my stash- I started playing around by adding the white roses around the little cameo I added to the egg, and I soon realized that all of the sections would look awesome with roses, but I knew I didn’t have enough white roses, but that I had a TON of these little dark pink ones.  I’ve been saving these since I bought them at a Prima class that I went to a couple of years ago! Any roses, even handmade, would absolutely work for this project!

I finished off the egg b y adding a little gold crown stick pin I had hanging out. I hope you enjoyed seeing my take on using the mixed media kit.  Be sure to check back on the blog this month for more fun projects made with Tres Jolie kits
