Shabby Chic Mixed Media Art Daily Journal Cover

Happy New Year Crafty Friends!! I’m starting this year with some thing just a little different than I’m use to creating. I have always loved the concept of mixed media art. I’m always too intimidated by it even though everyone I watch and get inspired by say ” There is no wrong way to do it” but I’ve just decided to take that leap this year especially creating using the beautiful kits I received from Kim.

(May Cards, tags and More Kit)

Although the journal cover I created was mainly using projects from past kits, I just wanted the initial cover to be a representation of me.  You will be seeing the rest of the great products from the Cards, Tags & More kit in my upcoming projects. So I really hope that you will love all of the textures , & how dimensional my cover is.

I used a variety of products and items to create this. I did learn fairly quick that the Gesso I used wasn’t thick enough to cover the journal even with 2 coats, so I applied crackle paint, crackle paste, and more gesso. What I do love about mixed media is if you make a “mistake” or change your mind about something that’s already on it, you can cover up and start again.

I used lace, a stencil from one of the past kits, some Art Pebbles , crackle mediums, & texture sand to create a variety of textures through out the outside of the cover and small spots on the inside of it.

On the inside I did use the Nuvo Mousse from a past kit , around the edges of the inside of the cover as well as the center. I did use it on the inner spine area too since I didn’t want to use paper on that area. The paper used was from my stash.

I love flowers so I added some variety ones on my cover as well as one of the metal flowers that came in this months Cards, Tags, & More kit on the spine, with an added bling piece on it’s  center, on the spine.  Then added the extra embellishments such as buttons, some more of the clear art pebbles, and a beautiful cameo piece that I absolutely love!

Lastly I added the vellum sheet from the flower packaging just to for added interest to an already textured area underneath it. Finishing of with splatters of black and some Prima “Sugar” on my flowers.

I do hope that you like what I came up with on my 1st project of the year. Stay tuned for some different but fun creations from me as I step out of my comfort zone, to a point that is!! ~Hugs~ Jeanne
