September Mood Board Layout by Ginny Hickmott

Hello!!  Ginny here with you all today!

It’s the beginning of the month again and a brand new Tres Jolie Kit!
This one is GORGEOUS!

I loved the neutral colours in the papers with a pop of the green colour coming through. I am not a fan of green but these are subtle and I loved working with them.

The mixed media kit this month is fantastic too, and my project took me back to my favourite place to be… the beach… you can see that project on the 14th…

My first project this month is a layout made with the scrapbooking kit. It is also my LO created for the mood board challenge this month too.

So lets show you my layout….

And here is the Mood Board for this month challenge.

I hava a photo process for you, so here goes….

This LO had a mixed media background, I have used a lot of paint in layers and dried each application of paint as I have gone along with a heat tool. The paint is from my stash and not included in the kit.

I started by painting the background paper with clear gesso. this primes the paper and makes it much more resistant to the use of mixed media and ‘wet’ products to help keep the paper from buckling and being misshapen. Dry with a heat tool.
I then started with my first paint, the DA Mountain Meadow.
There is no neat way to do this… when I say I splat the paper with a loaded paint brush that is exactly what I do! Just make sure your working area is clear of anything you do not want covered in paint!
After splatting the paint on I then brushed it over the centre of the paper a little as in the photo below.
Dry with heat tool.

Next is the gesso layer… white.
I watered the gesso down a bit, 1/3 water to 2/3 gesso, this just makes it splat/flick easier and gives a slightly more transparent coverage….

Again then brush the gesso to cover the centre of the paper….dry with heat tool.

Next the second green, the Peppermint Tea, love that name!
Each application of paint ends up covering a smaller space so you can still see the previous colours. Dry.

Now I added the grey paint and dried again

The next step is the stencilling. This stencil was in the Prima Flirty Fleur mixed pack of flowers, ephemera and stencil.
Using a texture paste add random patches of detail over the painted area keeping it mainly to the outside edges of the paint so I still shows after the photo has been added to the centre.

Paint the creative embellishment chipboard piece with gesso. This may need a couple of coats depending on the coverage you want.

Dry the gesso and then using the Nuvo Crystal drops ‘draw’ along all the flourishes to create a 3d effect Allow to dry naturally.

I decided to add some stamping too. I chose a stamp from my stash and used Black Soot Distress Ink to stamp the details around the outside area of the paint.

Now adhere the photo to the layout. I backed my photo with cardboard to lift it off the background paper. I then glued the chipboard piece over the top of the photo.

I chose some small cutouts from the Prima Papers and cut them into two….

And pushed them into the layers on opposite sides of the photo/chippy.

Now arrange the flowers, slotting some underneath the chippy and some on top.
I put one cluster at the bottom left ‘corner’ and then the top right ‘opposite corner’.

The second cluster, to balance the design of the LO.

Last little details, add one of the Resin Butterflies on top of the chipboard.

And lastly add some of the black glitter gems.

Here are some close ups at different angles to show you the layers.

Double Tag By Heather Thompson

Hello all, I’m back for my last post here at Tres Jolie Kit Club. I have had the opportunity to design for Kim and Tres Jolie. She has had some amazing kits with tons of beautiful elements.

So today to share a tag set I made with the Tres Jolie August Card Kit. This fun loaded tag was made with the paper pack from Prima. There was lots of details in the paper that worked great for fussy cutting and adding more elements to the tags. This is a tag inside of a tag. A little twist on just a plain tag.

Here is a video I made for you all.

‘Mum’ fussy cut layout by Ginny

Hello crafty peeps!

This is my last project for this month using the August kit for Tres Jolie Kit Club!

I have really enjoyed creating with this kit. The papers were lovely and I enjoyed all the fussy cutting that I was able to do with them.
This layout is kind of a double page to go with my previous layout earlier in the month which can be found on this link http://shabbypapers.blogspot.com/2018/08/mintay-layout-for-tres-jolie-kits.html
I used the same Mintay papers but swopped the colours from pink with blue highlights on the other layout to Blue with pink highlights on this one. I also used the same torn edged border but turned it to vertical instead of horizontal. The same flowers/colours/designs were copied onto this layout and obviously a double page about my Mum as she is in both photos.
These photos were taken as we sat in the garden talking on a lovely summers day a couple of months ago.
Here it is….

I have a photo step by step process for you to follow to see how I created this layout.

I used 4 mists in total. The first three colours I splattered using the nozzle removed from the bottle and shaking the nozzle and tube over the paper and the 4th, the blue chalk mist I sprayed normally to get more coverage. I tipped the paper up vertically after spraying to get the mist to run down the paper.

After drying I applied some texture paste with a stencil.

I inked the torn edges of the feature border paper and layered the blue lace from the kit underneath one side.

I added a strip of another contrasting paper under the other side, also torn and inked.

My photo I layered on…. yes you’ve guessed it, a torn paper layer and inked the edges.

I chose 4 journal cards, distressed the edges and inked

And then arranged them around my photo using double sided tape.

I then cut some fussy cutting out of the 12×12 Mintay papers and inked the edges.

I backed these with a small piece of cardboard to lift them of the papers and journal cards to add some depth to the design.

These were then slotted into my photo and journal card layers.

This arrangement was then stuck onto the background papers again with some cardboard behind it to lift of the background papers.
I added a fussy cut floral piece to the top right corner of the photo again backed with cardboard.

Next came the flower cluster….. a simple one with not too many flowers.

Add two smaller blue flowers to the main structure of the feature flower and the 2 leaves.

And then fill in with the smaller flowers.

I then finished off by adding some of he very pretty dazzler gems.

Voila!

All Smiles Layout with Rae

Happy Saturday crafty people!

Today I’m sharing a simple layout with a tutorial I made using the August scrapbooking kit. Some of the Mintay papers in the kit have some beautiful images that help guide designs, and this paper was perfect for a simplistic style.

I started my layout with treating some chipboard pieces. The lanterns are Creative Embellishments chipboard from the kit. The clock and title are Dusty Attic from my stash. I treated all of the pieces with a couple of coats of white gesso.

I treated the clock with copper paint, and then added some wax paste for a distressed look.

In this closeup, you can see the worn look that the pastes create.

Next, I treated the lanterns with some sparkly paint, one in a shade of blue (Prima Sparks in Mermaid Sparkle) and pink (Prima Sparks in Butterfly Spells).

I kept the title simple by adding some blue pigment ink (Prima Color Philospohy in Summer Vibes).

Next, I traced the chipboard clock onto a piece of the Prima Santorini paper from the kit and cut it out. I distressed the circle, then added some chalk ink (Prima chalk in in Old Rose).

I used Glossy Accents in a fine tip container to adhere the chipboard to the paper.

Next, I added some adhesive tape to the back of the paper, and added some of the blue lace from the kit.

Closeup:

I wanted more layers to tuck under the clock, so I cut some of the Mintay papers with a tag die. I distressed the tags and added some sheer pink ribbon from my stash.

Before gluing the layers, I added some script stamping in Distress Ink (Tattered Rose and Frayed Burlap). Some other layers of die cuts are also shown- the peach die cut is from my stash, and the white border is two pieces cut from the Kaisercraft die from the August card kit.

I made some small cuts under the lanterns printed on the paper, then stuck the chipboard lantern pieces into the cuts.

Here’s some closeups of the completed layout:

One of the last things I did was dry-brush some white gesso over the flowers to tone down the colors.

I also added some of the Prima Say it in Crystals from the kit.

And another closeup of the chipboard lanterns:

Tres Jolie Design Team and CSI

Hi everyone!

This month Tres Jolie is a sponsor for the challenge blog, CSI: Color, Stories, and Inspiration! You can read more about CSI HERE.

And because we are sponsoring, the design team played along with Case File 260:

This color palette is perfect for using the August scrapbooking kit, plus some splashes of yellow!

Here’s what the design team came up with:

Ginny:

I used the colour scheme for my inspiration and the Scene for my story/ photo.

The photo is Tenby in Pembrokeshire UK. Its not the first time I have scrapped this place, but it is my favourite place to go, gorgeous beaches, views, town and a certain yummy salted caramel ice-cream! It has the most amazing atmosphere and is great for young and old alike. You can’t help but just feel happy here!  My journaling I have noted on the back of the layout.

I used the Prima Santorini papers, flowers and embellishments from the Tres Jolie kit. The yellow flower flowers were from my stash.

Rae:

For my layout, I was inspired by the amazing summer colors in the color palette, and using the Tres Jolie kit was perfect for making it fit when I added some sunny yellow flowers! I love the travel theme, so it was the perfect opportunity to use this picture.

Kim:

I fell in love with the color palette, so I went the traditional route. I tried to incorporate some of the clues into the layout (I only managed 2) flowers and leaves. The photo is of me and my best friend at a BBQ (doesn’t quite make the travel theme). Again, this was such a beautiful palette to work with.

Heather:

Here is what I came up with and how I cracked the case. I used the paper from the kit to my benefit on the prompts. I used the floral pattern. I also use the travel theme and used a picture from our girls 40th Birthday holiday week in Key West. A sunrise on the eastern coast of the island. I added the ribbon and lace and some pretty blooms to go with it. I also added a bit of flair to incorporate the anchor in the page. So fitting for Key West. I also used a label to write my journaling.

Thanks for stopping by our blog today, and be sure to check out the CSI Blog

for details about how YOU can play along with this challenge!

This is Me- Sketch Layout by Ginny

Hi all, today I’m sharing my layout I created based on this months challenge sketch.
Kim has created another lovely sketch which fits the August kit perfectly.

I just loved the gorgeous papers in the kit this month, some soft and then some bright and bold.
A lot of these papers were perfect for fussy cutting, creating more elements to use on your layouts and to help create depth.
As usual the kit has been put together with perfectly coordinated embellishments there are flowers rom 48 & Market and Prima. I nice selection of chippies and resin to feature on your pages.
What I love about these kits is the amount of paper you get! If like me you like layers and lots of them then these kits are perfect with lots of coordinated papers included.

So on to my sketch layout. This layout I used the Santorini papers but the softer sides. I kept it quite pink, soft and girlie.

This is the sketch. A lovely sketch open to interpretation but perfect with this kit.

Now I will show you a few close ups and a few notes on what I did with some items from the kit.
This month I have tried very hard to only use August kit products, with only the use of inks, gesso and embossing powders added. We will see how well I did at this as the month goes on! LOL

The music score chipboard piece I cut in half and embossed with a white embossing powder. I then slotted it into my torn paper layers.

We had a lovely pack of gems in some gorgeous colours. The pink ones were perfect for this page. I used them in groups of 3 around the layout. I always use the ‘rule of 3’, things just seem more balanced this way!

I used several different coordinated papers and tore them to get my rough shabby edges, I am not very good with cut edges!
I have then layered them up, showing a little bit of each paper from underneath the one on top.
I then layered some of the beautiful white flower lace in these paper layers as well. It looks so feminine and soft.

I did some faux stitching on this layout with a Distress Marker pen, oopps from my stash..
I drew the dashes around several edges of my paper layers, this is another very easy way to add a little detail to your layouts and perfect if you dont have a sowing machine or cant bare to actually sow on your papers!!

I used a combination of the 49 & Market flower, which are the bigger pink ones and then some smaller Prima flowers. You can see other places I have added the flower lace too.
I also used a punch in odd random places on the edge of my layers to add a little more detail.

Products used on this layout:

From the kit:

* Prima: Santorin Collection: Enjoying the Sun
*Prima: Santorini Collection: Mix & Match
*Prima: Santorini Collection: Summer is around the Corner
* Creative Embellishments: Chipboard: Music Score
* White Flower Lace
* 49& Market Flowers: Shimmer & Shine Blush Jardin Secret
* Prima Flowers: #631994
* Prima: Shabby Chic Treasures: resins: Garden Treasures #892463
* Prima; Say it in Crystals: Santorini: #994280

Other products used:

* Martha Stewart Punch
* Stampendous: Embossing Powder: Detail White
* Tim Holtz: Distress Marker Pen: Hickory Smoke

“Dream” Layout with Rae

Happy Saturday, crafty friends!

Today I’m sharing the last layout I made with the beautiful July scrapbooking kit. I’ve had my eye on this picture I found on Pinterest for a layout for quite some time, and this kit was perfect to showcase it with the Violet Silence papers by Lemoncraft!

I started the layout by ripping the purple sheet, and the adding it to the ivory sheet of paper. I created some background texture with a script stamp and purple pigment ink, and then a music notes stencil and clear texture paste.

I cut a piece of chipboard into a circle frame, and then added some of the Nuvo drops to the circle in a thick layer, then added some white embossing powder for a textured, distressed look.

I was out of the purple flowers from the kit so I added some form my stash to coordinate with the ivory 49 and Market flowers. I tore apart some of the ivory flowers to use the inside layers for some smaller sizes.

I decided to cut up the gold trim from the kit. I cut the small flowers away from the scallop part of the trim- I used that as a layer under my photo mat. I placed the smaller flowers to peek out from under the flower clusters, and also to add to the proximity of the title from my stash,

Fussy cut layout with Ginny

Hello all,

Ginny here today with a layout made with the Tres Jolie July Kit.

This one I think is my favourite one from this kit that I have created this month.
I did some fussy cutting from the beautiful Lemoncraft papers to create layers and detail on this page…

I used 2 identical photos on this layout. One I kept whole and the other I cut in half! Shock horror!
The cut one I layered either side of the whole, slightly offsetting it.

These papers from Lemoncraft were perfect for fussy cutting! I cut out two large flower clusters and used these either side of my photos.
The photos and these two layers are set up of the page using cardboard but you could use foam pads.
I do like a little dimension to my pages. Lifting layers off the page also allows you to slot embellishments under layers to soften edges and create a real 3d effect.

You dont need to use too many embellishments to create a pretty and lovely looking layout. This layout doesn’t really have much on it but with the choice of papers and the fussy cutting it looks a full and covered page.

I used the doily under the photos as another layer and added some stamping with a stamp from my collection to add extra detail, another feature with out having to use an embellishment, so if your near the end of your kit and struggling for embellishments, remember things like stamping to fill a layout out.

I did some pink splattering in the background using the pink PearlEx mixed with water and a paint brush, I cut the some little flowers out of the beautiful gold lace and stuck them around the layout too!

Im a real fan of the NuvoCrystal drops and all the lovely colours they come in. The one in the kit is called Buttermilk. I used the Nuvo around the layout with the odd drop here and there!
The crystal drops are from my stash but just thought they added a beautiful effect to the design and gave it a bit of extra bling. You can never have too much bling!!!!!

“#beautiful” Layout with Rae using for the Mood Board Challenge

Hello, and Happy Wednesday!

Today I’m sharing a layout I made for the Mood Board Challenge using the July kit.

Here’s the mood board:

I chose to use some of the Lemoncraft Violet Silence paper that had pink flowers on it to coordinate with the hot pink Kaisercraft flowers. I was inspired by the polka dot fabric in one of the mood board pictures, so I repeated the use of circles by adding a circle stencil, a doily, a piece of Lemoncraft flair, polka dot paper, and adding dots to the chipboard frame (from my stash) and some purple and green berries (also from my stash).

I tore apart the 49 and Market ivory flowers and added the Kaisercraft hot pink flowers to make those pink flowers POP. I also added some pink chalk ink to the ivory flowers.

This closeup below gives a good view of the paper layers, and shows how the flower cluster and leaves, as well as the pink lace chipboard are a contrast to the softness of the hues of the papers.

The frame under the picture is a Dusty Attic chipboard frame from my stash, but really, any oval frame would do the job here. I painted it white, added some purple pigment ink for a distressed look to blend with the papers, and added accents with the Nuvo drops from the kit. If you haven’t had the chance to try Nuvo drops, you NEED to! They are self-leveling, so they will dry dimensional, but not uneven.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! I hope you get a chance to join us for the mood board challenge! You do not have to be a subscriber to join the fun, but if you wanted to use the July kit, there are still some available HERE.

Mood Board Layout

Hey everyone,

I’m sharing the layout I created using this months mood board challenge. I love jump starting my creative process with all kinds of challenges. Sketches and Mood Boards are my 2 favorites. So you will see a lot of those challenges here at Tres Jolie.

Here is the July Mood Board:

You can be inspired by all or just one of the photos or just the overall mood. Just a hint. The colors match perfectly to our July kit.

Here is my layout:

I was inspired by the overall mood, the colors and the frames.

Here are some close-ups:

This is my floral cluster in the top right corner. You can see the frame I used. I cut that tiny gold flower from the lace in the kit. I did some stamping in black and random splattering with some mist.

Here you can see more splatter, stamping and pieces of the gold lace. I love that you don’t have to do a lot to the background of this paper.

I did some layering behind the photo. The doily is included in the kit.

Here is a list of mist and embossing powders that I used while working with this kit. These are all from Lindy’s.

Mist:

Tea Pot Purple

Sweet Violet Purple

Hottie Patottie Hot Pink

Embossing Powder:

Hi Maintenance Magenta

Imperial Crown Purple Gold

Holly Hock Scarlet Plum

Orbit Olive Gold

That’s all I have today, but make sure you keep coming back to see what our designer have in store for you.
