November Mixed Media Spotlight

Hello!

Today we are showcasing our November Mixed Media kit. Each month we offer a mixed media kit that has an assortment of mixed media and tools, AND a project to make with them. As you can see in the picture below, this month’s kit has these amazing metal wings to alter as the project.

There is enough of these products to use on multiple projects, not just the project included in the kit! Also included are a set of three embroidery hoops, some canvas fabric, and some beautiful embellishments: a Prima resin frame and flowers, and some Creative Embellishments chipboard flourishes.

Let’s look at some of the projects created with this kit. First up is Crystal:

Next up is Michelle:

Now here is my project:

I love how we all started with the same materials, but ended up with totally different looks. If you want to see how Crystal and Michelle created their projects, just head over to our Youtube channel for a step by step video.

Because our kits are packed with full size products, there are always leftover after you complete your project. Let’s look at what Michelle and Crystal created with their leftovers:

Michelle used some leftover crackle paste and inka gold to alter this pumpkin.

Crystal used her wooden heart to be the anchor for another project. I also spy some kit flowers, inka gold, glitter and mica mist. That cute title came from a past kit.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! Make sure you come back, we are revealing our December kit very soon.

AND, we are having a  Sale RIGHT NOW! Check it out!

Use Your Wings Mixed Media Project

Hi everyone, Kim here sharing my Mixed Media project created with the November Mixed Media kit.

This month’s Mixed Media kit features lots of different mediums. We have  some crackle paste, some dry glitter, mica powder and some inka gold. Also included is are some flowers to alter. Everything needed to alter the metal wings included in the kit.

Here is the kit:

These wings were so fun to create with.

Here is my project:

I started with the wooden heart in the kit. I gave it a nice heavy coat of the crackle paste and set it aside to dry. Once dry, I wiped the high points with the inka gold, then gave it a spritz with mist I made from the mica powder.

For the wings, I went over the high points with the inka gold. The I added glue to the tips and sprinkled them with the dry glitter for some shimmer.

For the flowers, I took a few of the script ones and swiped them with the inka gold. Then I used the mist and sprayed all the flowers for a good dose of shimmer. It’s hard to see the shimmer in the photo, but they really shine in person. The blue flowers are from the scrapbook kit. They added just the right punch of color. The wings, I mad from a mold and just sprayed them with the mist.

Once all that was done, I just put it all together. Once I got the vision in my heard as what I wanted to do, this came together pretty quickly (except for drying time, LOL).

Remember to stay tuned to the blog  for more inspiration using the our kits. We will be revealing the December kit soon.

November Tres Jolie Kits – Mixed Media–Pumpkin Stack

Hello everyone! I’m up on the blog today sharing my pumpkin stack that I created as one of my Guest Design Team projects for Tres Jolie Kits, using the November Mixed Media Kit!

27-Framed

I loved the turquoise, Inka-Gold paint from Viva Décor that came in this months kit! It has a nice, smooth paste-like consistency, that can be put on with your finger or a brush straight from the container! Or, you can do as I did, and add some to a misting bottle with some of the Prima® Silver Mica Powder, also found in the November kit, and make your own shimmer-y, glimmer-y mist! I used my homemade mist on the flowers.

Watch me here:

41-Framed

One of my favorite product types in the mixed media world is any type of “crackle” product, so I was more than happy to see the bottle of DecoArt® Media™ Crackle Paint in the November kit, and I couldn’t help but put a nice thick layer on my pumpkin stack after coating it with some clear gesso.

36-Framed

After my crackle paint dried I added some of the turquoise paint, trying to create an Ombre effect on the pumpkins. I then used a mesh/net bag (that the little pumpkins came in) to wrap the stack, using some jute twine at each layer.

29-Framed

I let my homemade mist soak into my flowers some, then, after they were dry, I used some gel medium to attach them to the pumpkin stack.

30-Framed 31-Framed

28-Framed

For the finishing touches I added some sisel fibers for some added texture, and finished them off by brushing on some Glossy Accents and a sprinkling of the glitter from this months kit!

Altered Wings

How dreamy are those big metal wings in the mixed media kit this month?!  I had so many ideas for them, do I go all steampunk on them or sweet and flowery?  Since we had those awesome Prima flowers to play with I went more fairy dreamland with my thought process!

I basically just slathered the entire set of wings with the crackle paint, more as a base coat than for a crackle medium because I didn’t prep the wings first so I didn’t expect much actual crackling to occur.   It ended up kinda looking plasterish which I loved.

I also applied the crackle paint to the flowers as well and sprinkled the fine glitter over the wet paint on both the wings and the flowers.

When the paint was dry on the wings I gave them a wash with some diluted brown acrylic paint and then rubbed them with the Turquoise InkaGold to highlight them.

The flowers also got a light rubbing of the Turquoise InkaGold as well.

You can see all the details in my process video below!  Check it out!

November Tres Jolie Kits – Mixed Media–Altered Paintbrush

Hello everyone! I’m up on the blog today sharing my altered paintbrush that I created for my Guest Design Team project for Tres Jolie Kits, using the November Mixed Media Kit!

28-Framed

I loved the turquoise, Inka-Gold paint from Viva Décor that came in this months kit! It has a nice, smooth paste-like consistency, that can be put on with your finger or a brush straight from the container; or you can water it down as I did when I added it to the brush!

Watch me here:

39-Framed

One of my favorite product types in the mixed media world is any type of “crackle” product, so I was more than happy to see the bottle of DecoArt® Media™ Crackle Paint in the November kit! I had added gesso to the paintbrush quite a few months ago, and when I put the gesso on the heart I added more, just because I had some extra.

On top of the gesso I added a nice, thick layer of the DecoArt® Media™ Crackle Paint. I let the crackle paint air dry before adding the turquoise Inka-Gold paint, that I watered down so it would really get into the cracks. I used a heat gun to dry the brush enough to move, but I let it finish air drying because the brush bristles can’t take too much heat!

35-Framed

I used some gel medium to attach the Prima® flowers that came in the kit this month, and before I added the heart, I used the Prima® Silver Mica Powder from the kit to make my own glimmer-y, shimmery mist that I sprayed all over the flowers and brush!

44-Framed

For the heart, after the gesso dried, I just started using my finger to rub on some of the turquoise paint. I also knew I wanted to add some of the mica powder so I sprinkled some on. In the end the paint and the mica just got mixed together with some water! Then I sprinkled more mica on it all to give it “lumps.” (All of this is probably easier to “explain” in the video!)

I let the mix air dry, which gave the water mixture time to pool, allowing the paint to create its own shading. After all of that was dried I sprayed the heart with Mod Podge Glossy Acrylic Sealer to keep the mica [lumps] from rubbing off. After the sealer had dried I, more or less, painted some Ranger Glossy Accents on the heart and gave it a light coating of the glitter from the kit.

For “timeless” I just used my fingers to rub on some of the turquoise paint straight on the chipboard (no gesso) then glued it down with some JudiKins Diamond Glaze.

Mixed Media Heart Ornament

Happy Tuesday y’all!  today I’m sharing a project I did with the little wooden heart that was in the November Mixed Media kits.  I have to admit, dispite it’s small size I was intemidated by it for some reason.  I really don’t know why!

The first thing I did was trace the heart onto some corrugated packing paper, cut it out and then apply it on to the heart.  Then I used some sandpaper to distress the edges.

Next I applied some of the Deco Art Crackle Medium to it and allowed it to crackle (you can use a heat or drying tool to help with this).  Once dried I applied some watered down acrylic paint to give it some pops of color.  Then I rubbed on some of the Turquoise Viva Ink Gold Rub.

Then I began to add my Prima Flowers.  I also added a bit of the Turquoise Viva Ink Gold rub to the flowers as well to add some color to them too.

Once I had the flowers all adhered on, I brushed on some matte gel medium to the flowers and sprinkled some of the fine glitter that was included in the kit for a little shine.

Finally I added some metal embellishments from my stash and tucked in some preserved reindeer moss.  I also rubbed that awesome Turquoise Ink Gold on one of the metal embellishments.  It adhered to the metal so well and dried super quick.

I hope you enjoyed!  Thanks for stopping by today!!

November Tres Jolie Kits – Mixed Media – Altered Wings

Hello everyone! I’m up on the blog today sharing my altered wings, Guest Design Team project for Tres Jolie Kits, using the November Mixed Media Kit!

14-Framed

Before I added any mediums I separated the layers of “feathers” and used a little pair of jewelry wire wrapping pliers to add some random curls to random feathers. I didn’t have a plan, I just picked a feather and curled!

Watch me here:

20-Framed

I loved the turquoise, Inka-Gold paint from Viva Decor that came in this months kit, as you can probably tell from these wings! I found a way to use it just about everywhere! I added it to the wings, the pieces behind the flowers, and I watered it down to add to three of the kraft colored flowers from the 16 piece Prima® flower set that also came in the November Mixed Media Kit.

21-Framed

One of my favorite product types in the mixed media world is any type of “crackle” product, so I was more than happy to see the bottle of DecoArt® Media™ Crackle Paint in the November kit! After gluing my various Prima® Trinkets together (which I might add, all came from previous Tres Jolie kits!) with some E6000® I added a layer of gesso, let it air dry, and followed with a nice, thick layer of the DecoArt® Media™ Crackle Paint. I let the Crackle Paint air dry before adding the turquoise Inka-Gold paint.

22-Framed

I didn’t gesso the Creative Embellishments chipboard piece because I wanted the natural brown to come through to go with the rustic feel of the wings. I just used water and the silver mica powder by Prima® from the kit, to give a random coating.

25-Framed

For the final touches I gave a light dusting of the glitter from the kit by brushing on some Ranger® Glossy Accents on the Trinkets, chipboard, and flowers before sprinkling on the glitter.

19-Framed 24-Framed
23-Framed 26-Framed

27-Framed

Here you can see how I used the Inka-Gold paint to complement the patina that came on the wings. I didn’t want to cover all of the patina effect, but I also wanted the wings to “match” my flower cluster a little.
