Tres Jolie Kit Club–March 2020 Moodboard– “Emerald Queen” Junk Journal

Hey everyone! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I have an example project, a junk journal, for this months moodboard challenge!

I was in love with the “Emerald Queen” line by AB Studio that came in this months scrapbooking kit as soon as I saw the photos! And when I saw the books on the moodboard, I knew I’d be making a junk journal! And it was serendipitous that the green fabric image (above the clocks) fit with some sari silk I had already prepared for use! Below the moodboard image I have two video links, one is a flip-through of the completed journal and the other is a process video.

On the spine I let some of the fibers from The Paper Studio peek through the zipper, then added a Prima Vintage Trinket! I added some “Sage” Embossing Powder by Ranger to the chipboard from the kit and added it to the layers on my cover.

Here you can see the many various laces I used along the edges of the pages!

I layered some scraps of fabric, lace, and a zipper from an old jacket with items from this months kit on the cover, “holding” them in place with clips from my stash!

The band I used to hold the junk journal closed is a headband! I found packages of them on clearance one time and it suddenly dawned on me that they would be great for junk journals!

Mixed Media Journal Page – The Weird Girl

Today I’m sharing an art journal page that I’ve been wanting to attempt.  Last month when I requested to have both the Mixed Media kit and the Scrapbooking kit I didn’t realize I’d have all these glorious flowers so when this package arrived with all this fabulousness I could not help myself so out it came!

This page is really the result of both the mixed media and the scrapbook kit, although you could do it with just the mixed media kit with some alterations and additions from your stash I’m sure…But ya’ll…those beautiful green flowers from the Scrapbook kit were begging to be on this page so I just had to include them!  LOL

I started by using a sheet from a vintage short hand instructional book and used the “13 Arts” Gel Medium to adhere it to my journal page.    Apply the gel medium with a nice size brush fairly generously and evenly, taking care to smooth out any bumps and wrinkles.

Once dried I used a rubber stamp and some permanent ink to stamp a lady’s face as my base to build upon.  If you are a good sketch artist (which I am not), you could just draw your lady’s face.

Next I just went nuts glueing my “49 & Market” flowers from both the mixed media kit as well as the scrapbooking kit on to the page forming the lady’s hair.  I just used hot glue because I knew it would make a good bond.  I’m sure there is a better and more appropriate art or mixed media adhesive to use for this but this is what I know so this is what I stuck with so this guys wouldn’t go anywhere.

I then used a permanent marker to draw a rough body shape for my lady and I glued on a few of the flowers as her buttons.  I went back and applied a bit of the olive green “13 Arts” acrylic paint to her body to make her stand out a bit more.

Finally I added a little rub of the Prima metallic gold wax from last month’s Mix Media kit to all the edges of the vintage paper.

Oh and I tucked in one of the Prima metal butterflies in her hair as her little hair accessory.

The title is a sticker by Tim Holtz from my stash and it’s all done on one of my pages for my Bad Girls Couture Haute Mess Journal.

This is the complete Mixed Media kit, it’s one of my faves!  If you are looking for a great kit packed with product to keep you busy while you are social distancing, this is it!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-November Mood Board

For me a “scrapbooking kit” doesn’t necessarily mean I’m going to be making scrapbook pages! Sometimes I just can’t resist using (almost) everything up in one project, like the junk journal I made for this month mood board!
