September Mixed Media Monday

Hi everyone, Kim here with another edition of Mixed Media Monday. Today I am going to be sharing my project created with the September Mixed Media kit. I also have a video (after lots of technical difficulties)to share of the process.

This month’s Mixed Media kit features lots of mediums from 13@rts, including their rust effect powder and reagent.  Plus we have some Libndy’s squirts to round everything off. Also included is are some metals and a canvas. Everything needed to create an altered mixed media canvas.

Here is the kit:

This canvas was really messy and a lot of fun to create using the kit mediums.

Here is my project:

Here is the video process on how I created this:

“Find Your Path” Mixed Media Canvas with Rae

Happy Saturday!

Have you seen our mixed media kit this month? It’s full of wonderful products including the new tissue paper and texture pastes from Prima Marketing! Take a look:

And, here’s what I came up with using the kit along with some items of my own.

Here’s how I created the background:

I ripped up some of the tissue paper and adhered it randomly with 3D Gloss Gel that I added to the canvas as a glue, then once again over the tissue paper to seal it.

Next, I added some of the cream texture paste to the canvas everywhere that the tissue paper was not, adding some to the edges of the tissue paper as well.

I added the cool grey and moss texture pastes as well.

I painted the Prima resin frame with the black gesso, and once dry, I also dry brushed the frame with some of the moss texture paste.

I painted the Prima resin frame with the black gesso, and once dry, I also dry brushed the frame with some of the moss texture paste.

In this close up, you can see how the cream texture paste is able to blend perfectly with the tissue paper.

I added some flowers and gears from my stash.

This closeup shows one way to “blend” the texture pastes- the colors go together perfectly. The bee is a piece of junk jewelry I had.

Mixed Media Monday

Hi everyone, Kim here with another edition of Mixed Media Monday. Today I am going to be sharing my project created with the Mixed Media kit. I also have a video to share of the process.

This month’s card kit features Prima Marketing  texture paste and this cute 4×4 canvas. Also included is a resin frame, black gesso and the brand new Finnabair rice paper sheets.

Here is the kit:

I love the texture paste, and I have worked with them  before. This was a fun, but messy project to create.

Here are some close ups of the project:

I added some flowers, resin and lace from my stash.

Here is the video process on how I created this and how to use the texture paste:

Canvas by Annie

Hello everyone !!

I was really anxious to share with you this project because I love it !!! It happens once in a while where I really am proud of what I did !

My project was made with the Scrapbook kit, filled with so many beautiful products.

I decided to work with a canvas this time for this layout, this is something I wanted to try for a long time.

Here are some photos of how I began my project :

First thing I did was apply Crackle Paste on the canvas and let it dry during the night because the crackle is always better if it dries without heat. the paste I used is from Finnabair, however I heard that it is discontinued…. There are other brands available on the market.

I really wanted to use Pink for this layout, so I used watercolour for the background along with the Gold Nuvo Spray included in the kit. The 2 colours went very well together.

After the colours were dry, I used different stamps from my stash with the Chalk from the kit, which I also used on a peace of chipboard.

Here are some close-ups :

As you can see, I added some gold on the chipboard :

This Pink flower was cut out from one of the papers from 49 and Market and that was my inspiration for the colours.

If you have any questions feel free to ask 🙂

Mixed Media Monday (using the Tag Kit)

Hi everyone, Kim here. Today I am going to be sharing a mixed media canvas I created using the tag kit. I really stepped outside of my comfort zone with this kit.

This month’s card kit features the wooden Julie Nutting dolls and tags. Here is the kit:

So, I have never worked with these before. However, they are great for my niece. I created a canvas for her room. Here is my canvas:

I used the mermaid doll for the canvas. For the mixed media, I used items from past mixed media kits. I used the texture paste, watercolors and seashells from past Tres Jolie Kits (they can be found here).

Here are some close ups of the canvas:

I have never used watercolors on wood, so I learned a few things. Use less water to prevent color bleed. I got a bit of it, but hey I can live with it.  For the skin tone, I used my water color pencils. I think it turned out pretty decent for my first time.

The saying behind the frame is a 3×4 card from the Prima Zella Teal line (from my stash). The color was perfect for this.

For the background, I used the rust effect paste from a past kit in Fantasy. I used the powder blue to cover the canvas, then filled in with the purple and turquoise until I was happy.

The flowers and cheesecloth are from my stash. I filled in the floral cluster with some seashells and the other wooden accessories that came with the doll. I added a few melange pebbles, then lightly dusted over the flowers with the purple rust effects paint and called it done.

Mixed Media Monday

Hey everyone Kim here, today I am sharing my project I made with with Mixed Media Kit. If you don’t know about our mixed media kits, let me tell you about them. The kit is filled with not only mediums, but a project so you can use our kits right out of the box.

Here is our November Mixed Media kit. It is filled with the new Icing paste medium from Prima.  It also includes 3 sizes of embroidery hoops and canvas. You can create your own mixed media hoops. You can subscribe to our kits here.

Check out the kit:

Here is what I created using the kit:

How about some close ups:

Lets talk about the background first. After I put the canvas on the hoops and decided on which side I wanted to work on, I took the stencil and the icing paste paste to make the background. Once that was done, I began deciding how I wanted to arrange my hoops.

Once I had the arrangement set up I glued my hoops together. While the hoops were drying, I heat embossed my chipboard piece.

I then decided to add a doily behind my frame before I attached it. I just wanted something peeking out behind it.

Now it was time to start embellishing my hoops. I moved my flowers all around until I was happy with the groupings. I made sure I used some dimensional tape under some flowers so they pop off the project. Plus it makes it easier to tuck bits and pieces under them.

After all the big embellishment were done, I started adding all the little details that really make your project. I used a butterfly and some floral ribbon from my stash. The sentiments are also from my stash.

Hope you liked my little explanation of my Mixed Media Monday project.

‘Roses’ canvas by Ginny

Welcome to my second project of the month for Tres Jolie October Kit.

Today I thought I would share with you my Mixed Media Kit Project.

This month we had a lovely large square canvas and the gorgeous watercolours from Prima. What a treat to be able to create with these!

Here is the Mixed Media Kit

And so lets look at a few photos of how I created this canvas.

I only used a limited amount of colours from the Metallic Accents set for this canvas. I kept to all the pinks and paler colours through to the grey.
With a wide 3/4 inch paint brush I painted on the various colours one at a time in random spots over the background of the canvas, letting them blend and run together to create a marbled effect. Later I used a smaller brush to add some paint splats.

The water colour paint are so easy to use. I start them off with a spray of water to activate them and use them from the individual pots, I also use the palette tray in the lid, to blend some of the colours together and to add more water to get a really watery mixture going for a ‘wash’.

The chipboard pieces were in the scrapbook kit. These I simply covered with a white embossing powder.

I used the journal card sheet, cut them all up individually, distressed the edges and backed them onto a piece of light 12×12 paper from the scrapbook kit and distressed those too.

I fussy cut these flower clusters out from one of the 13 Arts papers

I splatted some of the metallic paint on the background

Now to layer up the design. I used some cardboard behind some of the journal cards to ‘lift’ them up. This enabled me to slot under the chipboard pieces.

Add the fussy cut floral pieces

Next came the flowers, again I only used the pink flowers from the selection in the mixed media kit.

I used one of the silver metal frames from the scrapbook kit and added a cut piece of patterned paper to the inside. I then covered the paper with a thick layer of crackle glaze. This was slid into the card layers too.

Lastly I then splattered the paler metallic paint over the entire canvas and tipped the edges of the flowers with the metallic paint too.

Here are some close ups of the finished canvas….

“Paradise” Watercolor Canvas for Mixed Media Monday

Hey everyone Kim here, today I am sharing my project I made with with Mixed Media Kit. If you don’t know about our mixed media kits, let me tell you about them. The kit is filled with not only mediums, but a project so you can use our kits right out of the box.

Here is our October Mixed Media kit. It is filled with Watercolor mediums from Prima.  Watercolors are the it thing right now and our kit is the perfect size for you to try them out. You can subscribe to our kits here.

Check out the kit:

Here is what I created using the kit:

How about some close ups:

Lets talk about the background first. I took a stencil and some modeling paste to make the brick background. Once that was done, I began working with the watercolors.

I worked with the blue and green colors in the palette because I wanted to keep my beachy theme going in the background. I used less water in some areas to keep the color more opaque. In other areas, I used lots of water and dabbed a bit with a wet wipe to lift the color.

I also added lots of water to make sure the colors ran in between the bricks. For my frame, I went over it with the white pearl paint to give it a bit of shimmer. The fence was painted with the soft satin.

All the chipboard got a coat of clear gesso before I used the green watercolor (except the title)on it. It a couple of coats, but I do like the end result.  I also used some metallic rub-ons on the background, instead of stamps. I like the way the metallic blends in with the shimmer of the watercolors and paint.

I used the pink watercolor on my title and added some flowers from the kit. Then I used a few different colors from the watercolor palette to add some splashes to my canvas and called it done.

Hope you liked my little explanation of my Mixed Media Monday project.

Here is my weekly tip: When using chipboard, its always good to cover it with gesso before altering it. I like using clear, that way it doesn’t alter the color of paint or other medium I am applying to it.

“Me and You” Mixed Media Watercolor Panel with Rae

Happy Sunday!

Today I’m sharing my project made with the lovely October mixed media kit. Here’s what comes in the kit.And here’s what I came up with:

I started out by spraying the Prima Marketing watercolor canvas with water, then used a few different colors of the metallic watercolors, also from Prima Marketing, from the palette, creating a large diagonal stripe, intentionally leaving lots of the canvas unpainted.

Next, as you can see in this closeup, I added some script stenciling- this stencil is a 12X12 from Kaisercraft from my stash.

Next, I assembled the design, using a picture encased in the window with shutters (Prima Memory Hardware Venetian Shutters) from my stash, and many flowers from the kit. I also added some die cuts of leaves that I painted with the green watercolor pan.

I also added some of the white Prima Metallique paint to the flowers to soften the colors. I also added the soft silk Metallique paint to the shutters.

I added some splatters of the watercolors, using the colors of the flowers, and then some black and white splatters of India ink from my own supplies.

I also added a title from the scrapbook kit that was in the 13 Arts chipboard set.
