Believe Christmas Bunting and Tutorial with Rae

Happy Saturday, friends!

I’m excited to share a piece of holiday decor I made using the December scrapbook kit. I’ve been working on making buntings to hang in my house for all seasons. So far I’ve made one for Autumn and Summer, and now a Christmas one. I decided to make this holiday bunting with stockings instead of banners for a festive twist. The Maja Design Joyous Winterdays collection is perfect for a classic, vintage piece of decor.

Here it is:

I started by cutting out 7 stockings, one for each letter in the word “Believe.” I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut these out, but the shape is pretty basic, so you could draw one by hand and cut it out without a machine. 🙂

When I cut the stocking and the top, I did so at different times so I could get the right fit, but using the other side of the page.

I also wanted to add an oval to the middle of each stocking, so I picked an oval die that would work with the left over paper from each stocking.

Once cut out, I distressed each piece, and added some dark grey chalk ink.

I cut out some oval frames using some glitter cardstock from my stash to put under the oval that I cut out from the Maja Design paper. Then I added foam tape to both layers to give the project some dimension. I normally use cardboard to “pop up” my layers, but on a project like this where it will be hanging, I don’t want that to be visible in between the layers.

Once I had all of the ovals glued to the stockings, I decorated each one using items from the kit. I loved these silver and mint green flowers, but I wanted to give them a heavily frosted look without losing the shape, so I added embossing liquid to them, then poured this glittery embossing powder over them, shook them off, and then used a heat tool to set the powder.

They weren’t 100% covered, and I love the look! If you don’t have a glittery embossing powder, you can simply add glitter to any embossing powder to get the same results.

I tried to get the same or similar design on all of the stockings. I added some letters that I cut with my Cameo from some scrap paper, then added the dark grey chalk ink in a distressed fashion. After I glued down the letters, I traced each of them (seen in the final pictures) with a white ink pen so they could be easily seen.

I added the silver and white flowers treated with the embossing powder, then added the Prima Marketing Sweet Peppermint silver leaves. I also cut up the Prima Vintage Christmas Poinsettia Kiss vine/stem so I could tuck them under the flower cluster. I also cut out some of the little kids, snowmen, and Santas from the papers to include in the clusters.

Then I added some of the Creative Embellishments chipboard from the kit (Holly border and frame pieces) that I cut up. I used some Stampendous shabby green embossing powder to get the effect you can see in the pic below. To finish off the design, I added some of the Kaisercraft white pearls to the oval frame.

Once done with all seven of the stockings, it was time to hang them up. Here’s how I added the ribbon:

I started by using my Crop-a-Dile to punch a hole at the top of each stocking.

Next, I used the Crop-a-Dile again on the ribbon. Becasue of the material, the holes wouldn’t be solid. but it ters the fabric enough to be able to make a hole.

Then, I added a grommet, making sure to keep the ribbon straight.

For added interest, I added some of these Prima metal snowflakes from my stash to each of the stockings.

And now they are ready to hang.

Here’s a close up of each stocking:

Journey: An Altered Gift Box with Rae

Happy Saturday, crafty people!

I’m sharing the last project I made with the November kit today: an altered gift box. I have a hoard of boxes that I save from all kinds of packaging to “upcycle” into prettier things! This box was packaging for a cell phone case:

It was so simple to make! Here’s how I did it:

I started out with this box:

Using the Prima Marketing Icing paste, I panted the edges of the box with a course brush. The paste is thick, but I only wanted the color of it, not the texture. Using a brush with stiff bristles gives me the finish I want.

I carefully paint the sides of the bottom of the box, and the sides of the top one as well. I cover some of the top as well, which I will cover with paper.

Next, I cut out some feathers and the clock from the AB Studio papers, as well as a piece to top the box with.

I cut out a doily using the black AB Studio paper.

I distress the edges of the paper, then apply some pink ink.

I add some script stenciling (The stencil and paste are from my stash.).

I allow it to dry.

Then I add some more pink using these two sprays, and allow the paper to dry.

I add some of the ribbon from the kit to the edges of the top of the box.

Next, I add layers. This is the first layer of feathers that I add to figure out how many more I can add.

I add the clock and doily die cut.

And then I add the rest of the feathers, flowers, and metal piece.

I also added a pretty moon charm from my stash. (Prima Marketing Moon Child collection)

Another closeup.

“Faire des folies” with Annie Carignan

Hello again everyone !

I am sharing today another layout that I made with beautiful November Scrapbook Kit where we had ABStudio gorgeous products, 49 and Market and Prima flowers along with great chipboards from Creative Embellishments.

For this layout I wanted to work with the feathers, which are not something I normally use so this was a little bit of a challenge for me because I never know where to put them !  So I had this idea of using all of them so they would be the focus of my page.

First thing I did was  gesso the background, then I cut little peaces of paper for the top and the bottom that I adhered making a triangle directed to the center and reaching the bottom. I used AB Studio stencil with Paste.  I took the feathers and adhered them from the top to the center, and from the bottom to the center also. I painted them with white gesso.  I put some  Icing Paste to give color just a little and added   the trim lace on top and bottom.  I finished by adding flowers, tags, bird and Art Stones.

November Moodboard by Annie Carignan

Hello everyone !! Have you seen this month’s Moodboard ? It is gorgeous and I created a layout with the Mixed Media kit and parts of the Scrapbook kit.

It took me a while to decide how I was going to place my 3 circles (Embroidery Hoops) Here is how it ended up.  I painted all 3 with White Gesso and used AB Studio’s stencil from the Scrapbook kit on the surface.  I mixed Finnabair’s Icing Paste with water and put some on the 3 circles. I then added some texture with AB Studio’s rubber stamp.  When everything was done I felt it needed something more, that is why I put the circles on a background paper where I used the Prima stencil with the Icing Paste.

Here you can see I painted the metal gears and the key chipboard with White Gesso and added beautiful flowers.  I finished off with Arts Stones. The small white words and the round title are from my stash.

‘Roses’ canvas by Ginny

Welcome to my second project of the month for Tres Jolie October Kit.

Today I thought I would share with you my Mixed Media Kit Project.

This month we had a lovely large square canvas and the gorgeous watercolours from Prima. What a treat to be able to create with these!

Here is the Mixed Media Kit

And so lets look at a few photos of how I created this canvas.

I only used a limited amount of colours from the Metallic Accents set for this canvas. I kept to all the pinks and paler colours through to the grey.
With a wide 3/4 inch paint brush I painted on the various colours one at a time in random spots over the background of the canvas, letting them blend and run together to create a marbled effect. Later I used a smaller brush to add some paint splats.

The water colour paint are so easy to use. I start them off with a spray of water to activate them and use them from the individual pots, I also use the palette tray in the lid, to blend some of the colours together and to add more water to get a really watery mixture going for a ‘wash’.

The chipboard pieces were in the scrapbook kit. These I simply covered with a white embossing powder.

I used the journal card sheet, cut them all up individually, distressed the edges and backed them onto a piece of light 12×12 paper from the scrapbook kit and distressed those too.

I fussy cut these flower clusters out from one of the 13 Arts papers

I splatted some of the metallic paint on the background

Now to layer up the design. I used some cardboard behind some of the journal cards to ‘lift’ them up. This enabled me to slot under the chipboard pieces.

Add the fussy cut floral pieces

Next came the flowers, again I only used the pink flowers from the selection in the mixed media kit.

I used one of the silver metal frames from the scrapbook kit and added a cut piece of patterned paper to the inside. I then covered the paper with a thick layer of crackle glaze. This was slid into the card layers too.

Lastly I then splattered the paler metallic paint over the entire canvas and tipped the edges of the flowers with the metallic paint too.

Here are some close ups of the finished canvas….

“Paradise” Watercolor Canvas for Mixed Media Monday

Hey everyone Kim here, today I am sharing my project I made with with Mixed Media Kit. If you don’t know about our mixed media kits, let me tell you about them. The kit is filled with not only mediums, but a project so you can use our kits right out of the box.

Here is our October Mixed Media kit. It is filled with Watercolor mediums from Prima.  Watercolors are the it thing right now and our kit is the perfect size for you to try them out. You can subscribe to our kits here.

Check out the kit:

Here is what I created using the kit:

How about some close ups:

Lets talk about the background first. I took a stencil and some modeling paste to make the brick background. Once that was done, I began working with the watercolors.

I worked with the blue and green colors in the palette because I wanted to keep my beachy theme going in the background. I used less water in some areas to keep the color more opaque. In other areas, I used lots of water and dabbed a bit with a wet wipe to lift the color.

I also added lots of water to make sure the colors ran in between the bricks. For my frame, I went over it with the white pearl paint to give it a bit of shimmer. The fence was painted with the soft satin.

All the chipboard got a coat of clear gesso before I used the green watercolor (except the title)on it. It a couple of coats, but I do like the end result.  I also used some metallic rub-ons on the background, instead of stamps. I like the way the metallic blends in with the shimmer of the watercolors and paint.

I used the pink watercolor on my title and added some flowers from the kit. Then I used a few different colors from the watercolor palette to add some splashes to my canvas and called it done.

Hope you liked my little explanation of my Mixed Media Monday project.

Here is my weekly tip: When using chipboard, its always good to cover it with gesso before altering it. I like using clear, that way it doesn’t alter the color of paint or other medium I am applying to it.

We still have some kits available, so stop by here and subscribe. We also have individual kits for sale here.

Mini Album by Annie Carignan

Hello everyone ! Here I am again for another month as Guest Designer, really happy to share some new creations with October’s beautiful kits 🙂  Today I am using the Card Kit :

For this month’s card kit, I decided to make a mini-album with the tags from Graphic 45.  I used different papers from the paper pad also from Graphic 45 for the background of my pages. I did not use any mediums for this album because the papers themselves are already filled with flowers and colours.  I added stickers (Graphic 45 Sticker sheet), lace and flowers on each page.

The photos are of my kids from a few years ago when we went for a photoshoot.

Material used :

  1. Graphic 45 Floral Shoppe 8×8 paper pad
  2. Graphic 45 Floral Shoppe 12×12 sticker sheet
  3. Graphic 45 Large Black Tags (6)
  4. 1 yd Lace trim
  5. Lace appliques (3)
  6. Mixed Color puffy flowers

Believe Altered Box with Rae

Hello, friends!

Today I’m sharing an altered box I made with the September scrapbook kit.

If you are anything like me, you save all kinds of boxes for scrapbook projects. This is one that had some skincare products. It was perfect for this kit because it was already a matte black, so no prep work was required.

I started wit the inside of the box. I plan to use this box, so I kept the design to a minimum inside. I added pieces of the Bo Bunny paper to the sides and bottom of the box, only adding some black chalk ink.

For the inside top, I added the same Bo Bunny paper, but I didn’t have enough for the whole thing, so I cut the scrap in half and added it, leaving a blank area in the middle, then added a piece of the Prima Marketing paper for a nice contrast.

I also added one of the silver frames that came in one of the Prima Marketing flower packs, as well as some flowers from the kit, and some flowers from my stash.

The appliques and vellum with script are also from my stash. I completed the design by adding some of the Prima Say it in Pearls items.

For the outside of the box, I kept it simple as well. I added the striped Bo Bunny paper to all 4 sides, and added a knob from my stash and flower where the magnet that closes the box is.

For the top of the box, I ripped a piece of the Bo Bunny and a piece of the Prima Marketing paper. I added black chalk ink to all sides of both of the sheets.

The cluster includes a doily, piece of script vellum, as well  as the Creative Embellishments chipboard frame, the bottom layers and which I added embossing powder to for an aged effect. I also added an applique from my stash.

I added many flowers, and a quote which I took from the Prima Flirty Fleur journaling card from my stash. I completed the design by adding some of the Prima Say it in Crystals border, tucked in between the paper layers, a black resin butterfly from the kit, and some black and white splatter of India ink.

The Tides Gone Out – Mixed Media Kit

Happy Friday!!!!

Today its the turn of the September Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie Kits!
And its a fantastic kit, especially as I have made a project relating to my favourite place …. the beach! My thoughts with this project was to create a piece of work titled ‘The tides gone out’.

Below is the contents of the Mixed Media Kit, with this lovely wooden heart from Darice ready to alter.

The lovely yummy goodies included to get messy with are from Prima, I’ve wanted to use these for ages, the Art extravagance Texture Fantasy Northern Lights, and I wasn’t disappointed!

I have used some extra mixed media products to create my textured background for the main kit products to be used on top off .

Here is a photo tutorial of my process in making this project.

I used some lattice chipboard pieces I had left over and painted them with a coat of gesso.

I very roughly painted the Darice Wooden heart so give it a shabby look. I really did splodge the paint on to give a very rough texture. When dry I added a couple pieces of roughly torn corrugated card.

And the pieces of chipboard lattice.

These had a light coat of gesso.
I then tied some string around the heart in two places and tied big loose bows. This is all to add texture and a little detail. Not all of this will show by the time we have finished… maybe only the bow bits.

Next I mixed the 3d balls and the micro seeds with some texture paste.

mixed together to create this….

Using a palette knife I then scraped this over some of the areas where I have been adding texture details.

After that I used another of my favourite products and that is Snow Tex, not just for snow effects!
I added this again with a palate knife and applied this quite lumpy so it dries with a raised look to it.

I allowed all this mixed media to dry before carrying on. The picket fence piece is wood and this was simply glued on.

To give a beachy/ seaside feel I love to use this spongy moss. It adds depth and a natural look to the theme we are trying to create.

The flowers were added next, these blend in perfectly and remind me of the drifts of flowers I see near the coast in Pembrokeshire.

Then it was the turn of the shells! And what a selection of shells there are!
I loved going through these and adding them to the project.
I tried to group them up and laid some on their sides so they looked like they were just laying how they had been left when the sea went out.
I also added the glittery Art pebbles at this point too.

Now for the ‘messy’ bit as I like to call it! 🙂
I put a small amount of each colour in my tray and started work with the darkest colour first.
The first colour I used as it was with no added water……

….. and using a stipple brush I dabbed the colour over the texture places I wanted to start the colour. My idea here is that its puddles and ponds of sea left caught from the tides oing out in the pebbles and shells.
Add a small amount, step back have a look and see where you want more, its completely choice as to how mad you go with these products, remember you will be calming it all down with the lighter colours on top in a minute.

Next do the same with the middle teal colour, using the stipple brush over the top of the dark blue.

I then gently spritzed this teal coloured layer with water to make it ‘run’ a little and then dried it with a heat gun.

The 3rd very pale blue colour I applied with a paint brush, over the other two colours.

When I had finished using the pale blue paste over the project I watered the remainder down to make a ‘wash’

I used this ‘wash’ over the bare top part of the heart.

Lastly I added a quote from one of the papers, cut out and edges distressed with the edges tipped with some of the pastes to blend into the background.

And there we go…… my finished project.

Here are some close ups of the finished project.
