Translating That Thirst in Art

When I sat down to create today I had something on my heart and on my mind and I honestly couldn’t get past it till I worked through it and since I had already used the wooden trays and floral elements from my January mixed media kit I pulled out my box and grabbed those gorgeous metallic paints by Prima and those Tim Holtz stencils got to work.  I also grabbed my favorite Bible journaling supplies, my water colors.

It’s pretty simple, I didn’t even sketch it out.  I just freehand water colored directly on the Bible page and once dried I came back and highlighted it with a felt tip pen.  Next using a fine brush I highlighted the cactus with the gold acrylic paint in the January mixed media kit.  I also highlighted the verse I was focusing on as well.

I then placed one of the Tim Holtz stencils on the page and stenciled on more of the beautiful gold paint, as well as a few splatters of gold paint.

I’m so in love with this page!  It’s just what I needed.  So have you ever used your art supplies in your Bible (a dedicated journaling Bible or art Bible)?  I dare ya!

Now y’all go do something beautiful

Tres Jolie Kit Club-January Mixed Media Kit-Calla Lily

Hello, All! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie Kit Club Blog!

For my third project this month I decided to make a Calla Lily Canvas using the final stencil of the pack that came in this months kit, all three paints, and the Prima Mélange Art Pebbles!

DSC_0001-FRAMED

Calla Lily’s are my favorite flower! I just love them, and if the wild pigs hadn’t ate my blubs last fall (2018) I would have had some down by my pond this past spring (2019)! Now I have Calla Lily’s and the pigs can’t get to them!

I used a 7”x14” canvas as my base, painted on a layer of the Prima “Silver Spoon,” then used the “Steampunk Copper” (from the kit!) with the diamond stencil from the Tim Holtz stencil set in this month’s Mixed Media Kit! I used the “Antique Coin” from the Prima three pack to paint the bottom of the Prima Mélange Art Pebbles and set them aside to dry.

I used the new Heartfelt Creations Calla Lily Stamps, Dies, and 3D Shaping mold (from my stash) to create all the flowers and leaves!

Here is a chart listing the color combos I used for the flowers and leaves.

January Mixed Media Spotlight

Hello!

Today we are showcasing our January Mixed Media kit. Each month we offer a mixed media kit that has an assortment of mixed media and tools, AND a project to make with them. As you can see in the picture below, this month’s kit has these amazing metal wings to alter as the project.

There is enough of these products to use on multiple projects, not just the project included in the kit! Also included are a set of three wooden panels and some beautiful embellishments: a set of Tim Holtz stencils, a floral vine, and some Prima melange pebbles.

Let’s look at some of the projects created with this kit. First up is Crystal:

Next up is Michelle:

I love how everyone started with the same materials, but ended up with totally different looks. If you want to see how Crystal and Michelle created their projects, just head over to our Youtube channel for a step by step video.

Because our kits are packed with full size products, there are always leftover after you complete your project. Let’s look at what Michelle and Crystal created with their leftovers:

Crystal used some leftover paints and the stencil.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! Make sure you come back, we are revealing our December kit very soon.

Art Journal Cover

Hey guys, Kim here with another project using our Cards, Tags and More kit. We’ve been creating on the inside of our Art Journal, so don’t you think it’s about time we do the cover?

I just kinda had fun with the cover, no real direction other than I wanted to use some crackle paste (from a paste MM kit) on the cover and to use the watercolors.

First off, let’s take a look at what’s in the kit this month:

The kit contains a full set of washi tape, a stencil,a yard of burlap, rice paper, metal trinkets and some watercolor.

Here is my completed cover:

I placed all my trinkets down where I wanted them (I added a few extra from my stash). Then I covered the entire front only with white crackle paste (including the trinkets0. I went really heavy in some spots for a bigger, deeper crackle effect.

Here is a tip with crackle paste. Once it starts to dry and crack, you can use your heat tool to speed up the process. Just don’t hold it too close.

I added watercolor, with a watercolor pen (dried between each color). Then I dug deep into my lost flower collection to find a few flowers to add. Once placed I added some art pebbles. For the final touch I did a bit of stamping and then I went over the high points and edges with antique gold wax paste.

I am extremely happy with how it turned out.

How about some close ups:

Art Journaling Layout Page

Hello crafty friends!! Today I’m super excited to share with you this project!! I’ve actually been pretty excited since I received the Card, Tags, & More Kit  for January, plus the other two kits from past art journaling kits from Tres Jolie!! So a BIG “THANK YOU” KIM!!!! AGAIN LOL!  Anyhow with all that excitement I was anxious to begin my journey with art journaling and I watched tons of YouTube videos, pinned a lot on Pinterest of what I myself felt I wanted to create with art journaling. I found that I was directed to art journal using magazine cut outs. That’s just one idea that I loved, even if its just one small image like I did on this project!

I did record majority of the process of how I created this but somewhere along the long the line I spaced out to unpause (is that a word lol)  the button on my recording but not too much was missed as I had already made the majority of my project. I hope to get better at recording my projects and editing, I am use to making picture tutorials but I do hope that you enjoy my video!!

As I might have mentioned before, I am just beginning my adventure in art journaling and mixed media. I had been trying to get the confidence to attempt it but was too intimidated. So if you are contemplating like I was, don’t wait any longer! Just GO FOR IT! You will love it just like I have!!

Till next week my crafty friends!! ~Hugs~ Jeanne

Mini Journal Shadow Box

Hey y’all!  Have you ever just needed a fun chunky little art journal but wanted to keep it displayed somewhere that would remind you to create art?  That’s the issue I was faced with.  I wanted a simple little journal that I could create some fun little art journal pages in that would be quick and easy but I wanted to keep it out on display so it needed to be a work of art all on it’s own and fit into my decor and style.

So when I saw the trays in the January mixed media kits I knew one of them was destined for a display box for a little mini art journal that would encourage me to make art.  But I still had to make the journal!  LOL!  So I’ll walk you through my process.

I began with some small squares of watercolor paper and just used masking tape to tape them together accordion style till I was happy with the amount of pages I would have.

I folded them back to back so each page would be something I could create on back and front as I flip through the book.

I then bound the spine with some old gaffers tape that was in my scrap stash.

Next I gave my mini tray from the kit a coat of white gesso

Then rubbed the edges with the “ancient coin” gold metallique acrylic paint by Finnabair from the kit.

I trimmed down the Garden Vine from 49 and Market Paper Goods, removing all the flowers but leaving the leaves.

I rubbed the leaves with glass bead gel and allowed it to dry well.

Next I rubbed the leaves with more of the “ancient coin” gold acrylic paint to reveal the texture.

I bent and glued the reshaped vine into the tray to form the “holder” for my mini journal

I then took a loose piece of the water color paper cut to the same size as the book and applied it with pop dots over the vine to hide where it attaches to the tray.

Finally I placed my book in the tray and twisted the vine over it carefully.

I’m quite pleased with it and can’t wait to create!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-January Mixed Media Kit-Bees

Hey, everyone! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie Kit Club Blog!!

My second project for this month for the Tres Jolie Kit Club focuses on up-cycling a wooden box, using one of the three stencils, two of the paints, the 49 & Market Vine, and some of the Prima Mélange Art Pebbles found in this months Mixed Media Kit!

DSC_0037-FRAMED

Even though in the beginning I wasn’t completely sure if I’d use the ReneaBouquet Bees from my stash, they were the inspiration for the colors! I really just wanted everything but the flowers to have neutral coloring, so I used the “Ancient Coin” and “Steampunk Copper” Prima Paints from the kit on the box and rice paper (also from my stash) with the stencil.

I painted the top “rim” of the box with the “Ancient Coin” and used the “Steampunk Copper” on the outside and inside edges, as well as creating a texture paste of the paints for the stenciling!

Video:

I added some of the texture paste stenciling to the outside of the box for texture then painted it with the “Steampunk Copper.”

Here are some close-ups of each of the four compartments so can get a good look at the details!

This little box went together quickly, and I was able to put it all together in a single day! Because Prima paints dry so quickly I was able to time their dry time when I went and had some lunch, and the texture paste I just had to wait for it to be “dry enough.”

In addition to items from the January Mixed Media kit, I used:

ReneaBouquets Bees, 13@rts Magic Powder, Stamperia Rice Paper (DFSA3004), Liquitex Clear Gesso, Liquitex Gloss Super Heavy Gel, FabriTac, JudiKins Diamond Glaze, and Mod Podge Paper Matte

Cuteness, Sweet and Adorable layout

Hey Guys, Kim here. I am back sharing another layout created with the January 2020 scrapbook kit. This kit is just to die for. It’s so shabby chic.

Here is another look at the kit:

Here is the layout I created with it:

How about some close-ups:

I also used a combo of flowers, both are from the kit. I have lots of bits and bobs from my leftover tray I keep on my desk. That’s a piece of a die cut under the floral cluster. The title words and resin shutter are also from my stash. Everything got a rub of wax paste from a past kit.

I tore the top layer of paper to expose the sheet beneath. I wanted to play off of both textures. I added some stamping and stenciling to add more dimension.

I used some leftover lace under my photo. I also used my metallic pastel accents (from a previous kit) to add some extra color. You can also see more of the stamping. Topped off with some art stones and I was done.

Mood Board Monday

Hey Guys, Kim here. Today I am sharing a layout created with the January 2020 scrapbook kit. The new papers from AB Studios are so lovely. I’m really enjoying working with this kit. I know I say this almost every month, but this is becoming one of my favorite kits of 2020 (wink).

If you haven’t seen the kit, here it is:

Here is the layout I created with it:

This layout is based on the January mood board. I love the shabby chicness of this kit.

Here is the mood board:

How about some close-ups:

I embossed the chipboard using vintage gold embossing powders. This was from my stash. The Window arch is from the kit, the swirl is from my stash. I also used a combo of flowers. The pink flowers are from the kit. The purple ones are from my stash.

Here is a close up of the gorgeous pink floral cluster. Plus more of the chipboard piece that was embossed.I layered some paper, a doily and tag under the photo. I added a resin photo corner.

I added a small amount of stamping to blend in with the background of the paper. Used some phrase stickers and it was done.
