“Untitled” Layout

Hey Guys, Kim here. Today I am sharing an untitled vintage layout created with the October 2020 scrapbook kit. The papers from Blue Fern Studios  have a great vintage feel to them. I’m really loving with this kit.

If you haven’t seen the kit, here it is:

Here is the layout I created with it:

How about some close-ups:

I created several layers of different sizes using 3 different sheets of paper. I ripped the edges slightly. The chipboard frame from the kit was covered in clear gesso (this helps the embossing ink adhere), then painted with the mist from the mixed media kit. I love the way it turned out.

Here you can see a better look at the chipboard. I used the same technique on the chipboard butterfly (except I used 2 colors), then added some stickles (from the mixed media kit) for shimmer. I added some trim (from my stash) as layers under my photo. I love how they make the photo pop. You can see a bit of the stenciling I did on the bottom layer of paper.

Here is one of the floral clusters (all flowers are from the kit), the tickets were fussy cut from the ephemera that come in the kit. The chipboard leaves (from my stash) got more of the same treatment as the other chipboard. It really shines under the flowers.

“Love” Dreamcatcher Decor with Rae

Hello, everyone! By now you’ve seen our October mixed media kit with gorgeous Dina Wakley acrylic paints, Stickles, Nuvo mist, and the beautiful dreamcatcher from Kaisercraft:

And this is what I came up with, using some items from my stash:

I started out by grabbing a 12X12 wood panel from my stash for a background that I painted using the tangerine paint from the kit mixed with some of the Nuvo mist in cocoa powder.  I mixed the mist in with all of the paints when I used them to create a dingy hue. I painted the panel with a stippling brush to get the paint into all of the details of the wood.  Once dry, I sanded most of the tangerine paint off to get this faded look:

For the circle part of the dreamcatcher, I applied the peacock paint that I added a bit of the brown mist to, and then I sanded it down:

And I repeated the same treatment to the feathers with the eggplant paint.  I added more of the peacock paint to the middle feather for a two-tone look:
I added some Prima Marketing flowers and a vine form my stash- the flowers are older from a collection of canvas flowers, and the vine is really old-one of the Blossom Branches collection!  The canvas flowers were painted with a mix of the lemon paint and brown mist.
To complete the project, I used an oversized chipboard title (American Crafts) from my stash, adding a few layers of the diamond Stickles from the kit:

“I was quiet….” October Sketch Challenge Layout

Hello crafty friends! This week I come to you with my sketch challenge layout for October 2020. I really love this beautiful paper line and I knew it would go perfect with a photo of my beautiful daughter Destinee who is my only daughter and the oldest of my children. This paper collection from Blue Fern Studios Jane’s Memoris  which is in the Scrapbook Kit from Tres Jolie Kits.

This project was pretty quick coming together because the paper I used is so beautifully detailed that I didn’t want to cover to take anything away from it. I had thought of adding some stenciling but I honestly backed away last minute. Here is some photos of the steps I took to create this!

I began by picking out which paper from the collection I would use from this Blue Fern Studios Jane’s Memoirs collection. I also like using 12×12 sheet of chipboard to back my layout this way it keeps sturdy even if I was to spray inks, water, stenciling, stamping , etc. I added some non brand double sided tape onto the chipboard, I then used Tim Holtz Distress Stain Ground Espresso along the edges of the paper I chose. I then took off the paper off of the double sided tape using my Tim Holtz Retractable Craft Pick . Once I added my paper, I went over it using my We R Memory Keepers Large Bone Folder.

I then set my layout aside and picked out my photo and frame for my layout. I absolutely love the chipboard frames from Creative Embellishments that was included in this month’s Scrapbook Kit!! I used Ranger Embossing Ink Dauber on the chipboard then added some Lindy’s Stamp gang Embossing Powder Silence Is Golden, I believe it was from a past Tres Jolie Kit. I then let it cool and adhered my photo onto the frame using ScraPerfect Best Glue Ever which has a great hold. I then used some scrap chipboard or card board on the back of my photo for dimension and used the same glue to adhere it to the paper. I then began adding the flowers that came in the kit as well as flowers from past kits as well. I used the same glue to adhere everything on this project. The flowers are beautiful 49 & Market flowers , Country Bloom (Punch) & Enchanted Petals (Parchment).

la

I also used some the lace from the Scrapbook Kit as well on my layout with a small flower cluster. For that super cute quote that is on my layout which reads ” I was quiet…..but I was not blind-Jane Austen” I cut it from the Bits-N-Bobs Pack also from the kit. I then used the same Distress Stain that I inked the edge of my paper on this small quote I cut. I then used some dimensional dots to adhere it onto my layout. I lastly added a few pearls from Frank Garcia Memory Hardware Pearls IV Pink Passion around my layout.

I finished with this layout pretty quick as I mentioned before that this paper collection has so much detail in it that you don’t need to add to much embellishing to it. So it came together pretty quick! I hope that you will join up in the challenge! You have till the end of the month to do so! Thanks so much for taking time to read my post! I hope you feel inspired to great beautiful things! xoxo

Hugs,

Jeanne

Tres Jolie Kit Club–October Scrapbooking Kit & Sketch

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

This week I’m bringing you my sketch challenge project using this month’s scrapbooking kit. I didn’t do a whole lot to my layout, because I really loved all the detail in the beautiful Blue Fern Studio’s paper and I just couldn’t bring myself to “covering it up”!

Check out the video below to see the simple steps I took to put this layout, featuring a photo of my great-grandmother, together!

Video:

Have you seen this month’s sketch? It’s a beauty!

Here is the original sketch: And here is how I rotated it:

Now, how about a few close-ups?

Here you can see how that Shimmerz has just a touch of sparkle to it and pools around the crackle paste, giving a touch of color that goes along with the pinkish-purple of the flowers.

Using one of the 49 & Market flower packs found in the kit this month I created three clusters, and under each cluster, I added some extra detail from some fussy cut flowers and lace from another sheet of the Blue Fern Studios paper. Then, for some more detail, I added some texture pebbles and glass glitter from my stash.

I added three layers of Baked Texture (from my stash) to the large chipboard frame found in this month’s kit, added my photo, and used some corrugated cardboard to lift it from the page some so a couple of the flowers could get tucked underneath.

I hope you enjoyed this project and it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items found in this month’s Scrapbooking Kit!

In addition to items from this month’s Scrapbooking Kit (*from previous Tres Jolie Kits), I used:

The Emerald Creek/Seth Apter “Ancient Amber” Baked Texture, Shimmerz “Berry Hot” Creameez, Ranger Big Emboss It Ink Pad, Brea Reese Texture Pebbles, ReneaBouquets “Lavender” Chunky Glitter Glass, Prima/Finnabair “Floral Net” Stencil, *Prima Waterbrush, Fabri-Tac, Art Glitter Glue, JudiKins Diamond Glaze, Hot Glue Gun

Mixed Media Feather

Hey Y’all!!  Michelle here, sharing some boho vibes with ya today!  I saved one of those cute wooden feathers from the Lucky Dip Dream Catcher from the mixed media kit with the hopes of creating something fab with it and I’m pretty happy with what I came up with.

This little guy can be used as a fan pull or hung on a door knob or chest of drawer pull but I hang mine on my rear view mirror.  I love the funky boho vibe.

For this I painted the entire feather with white crackle paste first and allowed it to dry.

Next I lightly brushed on the Dina Wakley paints by Ranger in layers, starting with the “Peacock”, then the “Eggplant” and next the “Tangerine”.  I allowed them to blend a bit to lend to the feather effect. Once it was all dry I inked it all up with a black ink pad and gave it a gold metallic wax rub.

Next I strung some wooden beads on the elastic provided in the kit and tied it to the feather, making a loop to hang.  I finished it off with some scraps of silk ribbons.

Such a fun little thing to make and makes me happy when I see it hanging there!

Thanks for stoping by and I hope you are inspired to make something beautiful today!

A tri-fold card, a template and a winner

Hey guys, Kim here. Today I have a project I created using the cards, tags and more kit. This is a beautiful shabby chic/floral kit. If you haven’t seen it, here it is:

This is a great kit to create feminine cards, birthdays, weddings or bright cheery get well cards. I used it to created a love card and used a template to create the base.

This is a 4×6 card.  I used a 6 x 12 sheet of cardstock  to create the base.

Here is the template to download:

Card template

How about some close-ups:

I used the template for the base of the card. Then I decided on my papers for all my sections. I inked all the edges before gluing them down.

I left the inside flap bare, this way I could add whatever sentiment I wanted later. This gives you a better look of how the card folds. I love the mix of patterns on the papers. The chipboard rose is from the kit. I used some diamond stickles from the mixed media kit to make it sparkle.

Here is another view of the back side of the card. You can add little pop-up elements all over this card. They make fun surprises.

Now for a winner.

Did you enter our September sketch challenge? What are you waiting for? Thanks to all who did join in. Remember, we have a new challenge each month.

Congratulations to:

Peggy Giovanetti.

Your prize will be included in your next kit.

Less Perfection Layout with Rae

Happy Sunday, crafty people!

I am sharing another layout that I made with the October scrapbook kit.  The beautiful shabby chic Blue Fern Studios papers from the Jane’s Memoirs collection have to be one of my favorite collections ever.  I love the colors, especially the dark accents of brown.  This piece of paper with the script images really got me thinking about how a sepia tone picture would look amazing with it, and  I was right!  Here’s what I came up with: For this layout I treated all of the layers by heavily distressing the edges, and soaking the edges in water, then I dipped the edges in a cup of the Nuvo spray in Cocoa Powder from the mixed media kit.  You can see that the Nuvo spray has lots of mica that makes the edges shiny, but only the brown color seeps into the paper fibers, creating a vignette effect.

I cut up several of the images from the “Calling Cards” sheet of paper and layered them. I also sprayed the Creative Embellishments decorative oval frame (the larger one from the kit).  In the closeup below, you can see the silver mica from the spray show up on the chipboard piece.
I had bits of lace left from my other projects, so I cut it up in smaller pieces and stuck them in between the paper layers. The title is from my stash (Prima Marketing), and I added some white gold and rose gold waxes to it so it would blend into the layout a bit.
For the flowers, I added a couple from my stash, and I inked them with brown chalk ink, also to blend the tones of the layout. Here’s another closeup that captures the beauty of the edges of the paper:Thanks for stopping by the blog!

Beginner Cards

Hello crafty friends! Jeanne here back to share with you these super cute cards that I created this week using the October Cards, Tags, & More. I had intended on this being a short tutorial since they are easy to put together for those of you who might have just started crafting and might get intimidated to create cards as I was. I unfortunately erased my photos by accident on my phone. I have the worst habit. But I’ll do this  on another blog post here in the near future. Anyhow I created these cards in no time and that I love about this kit is that it comes with everything you need to create a quick card.

I used the white card stock from the kit, as well as papers from the collection that was in the kit which is Couture Creations My Secret Love, I used some of the ephemera and stickers from that same collection. The only thing I added was the colored card stock , I added it in between the white card stock and design paper as well as some dimensional dots.

These cards were very easy to create and propping the ephemera and sentiment on pop dots makes the card have more interest. I know these are perfect for those who are beginning either in paper crafting or beginner in making cards in general. I know that when I began creating cards, I was pretty intimidated and I did go thru many YouTube videos , blogs , and of course Pinterest.

I hope that you like what I created with this beautiful card kit for this month. There are still kits left so don’t hesitate, run over to Tres Jolie and get your hands on this kit or if you want to purchase one of the mixed media or scrapbook kits too, go to this link and see them there. There are also kits from previous months for sale as well.

See you all next week again! I will be back with my sketch challenge project I created. Please join up, you don’t have to have one of these kits to join, work with what you have. We would love to see what you create and you can win something great from Tres Jolie if you put your entry here.

Hugs,

Jeanne Rodriguez

Tres Jolie Kit Club-October Mixed Media Kit-Art Journaling

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I am bringing you an Art Journal spread I created using the mediums found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit.

I find Art Journaling can be freeing and relaxing. There isn’t a need to have a plan going in, I think it’s impossible to “make a mistake,” and you can practice with your mediums!

In the video I go over the different items (also listed at the end of this post) I used to make this spread and I show the process involved.

Video:

I first coated the pages in my art journal with some clear gesso, then started layering my stencils for the background – drying in between each layer. After my background was finished I just started drawing! The paints are no longer water-reactive once they are dry, so I only worried about using my Workable Fixatif when I wanted my Stabilo pencils to stay put!

I didn’t worry about trying to make everything “perfect,” I just went along adding color and designs as I felt the “need” for them. After the background stenciling, I added my leafy vines, mushrooms, and leaf. I mixed some of the Nuvo Sparkle Spray with some clear gesso to make it more of a paint and (tried) using it to create some shadow effects and to color my leaf some. After I had it painted on I watered the remaining mixture down some and splattered it across the pages. The final step to the spread was to draw on the border around the pages.

Thank you for joining us here at Tres Jolie, I hope this project gave you some ideas of what you can do with the mediums found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit!

Stay Crafty, Friends!

October 2020 Mixed Media Kit:

In addition to items from this month’s Mixed Media Kit (*from previous Tres Jolie kits), I used:

Fabrika Decoru Stencil FDTR 162, *A.B. Studio Stencil, *TCW “Mini Art Deco Leaves” Stencil, Echo Park “Mini Leaves” Stencil, *Prima Waterbrush, Stabilo Black & White, Sharpie Pen – Black, Prima/Finnabair Heavy White Gesso, Liquitex Clear Gesso, Ranger Heat-It Craft Tool, Ranger Blending Tool, Krylon Workable Fixatif, Dina Wakley Media Journal 8” x 10”

The Unconventional Dream Catcher

Happy Wednesday everyone!!  Michelle here and I hope you guys are enjoying some fall-ish weather where you are.   Today I’m sharing this somewhat unconventional dreamcatcher I made with the October mixed media kit.

I was brainstorming some unique ways I wanted to use these awesome kit and tried a few things that were more traditional before I realized that I just needed to stay true to my usual style and design ascetic.  You know I love to white wash, ink and rub with gold so that’s exactly what I did!  lol

I started out by giving the wooden cut out by Lucky Dip a light coat of white spray paint then I watered down the “Peacock” & “Eggplant” Dina Wakley paints from Ranger and applied them with sort of a splash and dab technique with a paint brush.

Once all that Had dried well I used a black stamp pad and inked up all the edges well.

Next I used the NUVO sparkle spray in “Coco Powder” to spray the wooden feather cut outs.  After it’s dry I applied some of the watered down “Peacock” Dina Wakley paint to highlight them.  I just applied it with my fingers.  Once again I inked the edges up with a black stamp pad.

I found some Prima flowers in my stash from a previous kit and applied more of the watered down Dina Wakley Ranger paints to them (some I watered down more than others to give various shades) and then rubbed them with some gold metallic wax.

Finally I added some bits and pieces of scrap papers, die cuts and stickers to finish the look.  I added Tim Holtz paper dolls and A Vintage Girl and Her Daughter Stickers from my stash.

Here she is all put together!  You would display it like this on an easel or hang it in a special place.

Thank you for stoping by today.  I hope you were inspired to create something beautiful!
