“Try Again” Mixed Media Journal Entry

Happy Monday y’all!!  I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! Today I’m sharing a journal entry page that I made using the art mediums from the November Mixed Media kit.  This is my favorite part of the mixed media kit, getting to play with new products and colors that I may not have other wise picked out and seeing how they mesh with the things I have in my current art supply.

Annnnnyyyway….here’s my page!!

I used the Prima tissue and Ranger Distress paints from the kit as well as the  Prima Charcoal Black wax and mixed  it with items from my art stash to create this page in my handmade plaster journal.

You can see the step by step details in the video below.

I did a lot of mixing and blending of mediums to get these results and I’m very excited with the results!  I hope it inspires you to play around with your supplies as well.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you are inspired to make something beautiful today

You are Enough Layout with Rae

Hello and Happy Sunday!

By now you’ve seen our beautiful scrapbook kit featuring the Beauty Restless collection by Craft o’Clock, and all the pretty things the design team has made with it- and here’s one last one from me:

I chose to keep this layout pretty simple- I love the paper, but it’s a bit busy, so I didn’t want to add a lot to detract from the background design.  I added a lot of brown distress inks to the papers, but no stamping or stenciling.  Instead, I added some rub-on stitches from my stash.  You could do the same with stamps or actual stitching to get a similar look.

For the rest of the layers, I distressed and inked them.  I added a doily from my stash that I cut down to fit my design.  The title and gems are from my stash as well.

I cut up the tags from the kit to fit into the openings of the Scrapaholics film strip chipboard that I shabbily embossed with blue powder.  I also added some of the coordinating chipboard to the openings.

I added some of the 49 and Market kraft colored flowers, as well as some of the small beige ones and a couple of purple ones left over from the kit.  Of course I wanted to round out the color palette, so I added some blue flowers from my stash (some random brand, and some dark blue “vintage” Prima ones that I have been coveting from the Kennedy collection).

Thanks for stopping by the blog!

Don’t forget that we are having a design team call- check past posts for details!

Creating a layout with 6×6 paper

Hello crafty friends! Jeanne back this week sharing how I created this Christmas layout using the November 2020 Card, Tags, & More Kit. This is the very first time creating a layout using 6×6 paper. I have been wanting to make one but I hadn’t done one yet but since I love these beautiful papers from the paper pad this month which is 49 & Market Noel Vintage Artistry Collection, I thought heck why not right! So here it is!

This was pretty quick to complete this layout so I want to share how quick it came together. I try to create quick , not too complicated, tutorials for those of you who are beginners. I know I learned a lot from tutorials that weren’t too complicated. I really try to so hopefully this helps out.

I began by choosing the pattern paper from the 6×6 paper pad and using my Prima Marketing Distress Tool, I distressed all of the edges of the papers. I then adhered them onto a 12×12 sheet of chipboard using 1in. non brand double sided tape. I have seen on some layouts created from 6×6 papers that they have cut along the edges to size it onto the base but I didn’t have to do that with mine, so not sure whether maybe it depends on the papers not sure. I then just went over the layout using homemade clear gesso , I was out of Prima Marketing Gesso that I usually use but found a recipe online. It worked so I probably will keep using it! Here is the tutorial I followed!

I then used a snowflake stencil along with Deco Art Crackle Paint which I absolutely love, its a favorite of mine! Before drying it with my heat tool, I applied some glitter I had left from a previous Tres Jolie Kit. I then adhered some white lace from my stash.

Then just added a photo of my grandson which was taken Christmas 2017, he was so small and his Elf had put tissue all around the tree. So its a great memory! I added the photo adhered on some scrap paper from the paper pad then on some foam tape for added dimension. I also added a beautiful floral piece that is from Blue Fern Studios, which was also a product from last years Christmas Tres Jolie Kit.

I found some adorable ephemera letters “NOEL” and an adorable car which is from the Crate Paper Merry Days collection. I loved that the colors of these matched the stitched frame that I added on my photo and a sticker that says “It’s December” on the frame. I love these stitched frames which I know are also from a previous kit as well from Tres Jolie. So as you can see you are able to use products you might have left from other kits as well. I then finished it off by adding some splatters using some Aqua Pigment in Pearl from Brutus Monroe, which you can add water to it or use it as is which I did in this case.

Well friends, I better end this post before I start rambling on more than I already have lol. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. It was a strange one this year but hopefully all goes back to normal soon. Please keep safe! Till next time!

XOXO,

Jeanne

Tres Jolie Kit Club–November 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Altered Embroidery Hoop

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

For my final November project, I’m bringing you an altered hoop using items from my stash with items found in this month's Mixed Media Kit.

I used an old embroidery hoop from my stash and upcycled some aluminum screen for this Autumn Butterfly piece! Check out the video below to see how I did it! (My husband's hands even make their Internet debut!)

Video:

Now, how about a few close-ups?

I wasn’t overly worried about “clogging” some of the holes in the screen with the gesso, I think it adds a little something to the piece and makes it seem more connected to the hoop. You don’t have to coat your screen with gesso and wax, I like it better this way though because it cut out the shine from the aluminum. You can also see that I added some “Vintage Gold” wax to the hoop to add just a little shine to offset the matte.

I finished off two partial packs of flowers on this project and added some die cut leaves coated in “Vintage Gold” wax and sprinkled with some glass glitter for my cluster on the bottom of the hoop, bringing the gold of the butterflies to the outside as well.

Isn’t it beautiful with the light coming from behind? It makes me think of the setting sun at the end of an autumn day.

Thank you for joining us here at Tres Jolie! I hope you enjoyed this project and it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit! I’ll see you again in December!

Stay Crafty, Friends!

Tres Jolie Kit Club–November 2020 Scrapbooking Kit & Color Board

Hey all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you a purse-size calendar I created using the color inspiration (image below) and the papers and chipboard found in this month’s scrapbooking kit.

Compared to other books/journals I’ve made, this one came together rather quickly! It doesn’t have a thick spine, so I couldn’t get carried away adding extra pages. Check out the video below to see how I did it.

Video:

Isn’t this a beautiful color board? I love the look of purple and gold together! Keep scrolling down, there are some photos of the finished calendar below!!

I wanted to add a little something extra to the cover, but I also wanted it to hold up to use, so I opted for some Beautiful Board from ReneaBouquets and some stars I made using my “Stars & Moons” Mould, some tabletop epoxy, alcohol ink and Magical Shakers for color, and some mica flakes. Between you and me, those stars came out fabulously!

I couldn’t believe how lucky I was that I just happened to have a book cover in just the right shade of yellow-gold with the perfect title for a calendar! I don’t know what the book originally was, but I loved being able to repurpose the cover.

The next six photos are close-ups of the inside cover, pocket pages, and the calendar cover; you can also see those custom paper clips I made.

This little book calendar is now ready for 2021 to get here! The calendar has some space to write on, and there are a few pockets for lists and receipts to be tucked in.

Thank you for joining us here at Tres Jolie, I hope you enjoyed this project and it gave you an idea of how you can interpret the color board and of what can be done with the papers found in this month’s scrapbooking kit!

Hope in My Heart Canvas with Rae

Hello, everyone!

Today I’m sharing a 6×6 canvas made with our November scrapbooking kit and the tissue paper from this month’s mixed media kit.

This project started out as a layout, but morphed into a canvas.

To start, I painted a 6×6 canvas with blue paint, then used soft matte gel to adhere some of the Prima Marketing tissue paper covering the edges and about an inch bordering the face of the canvas.

Next, I added some paper layers Craft oClock, including three tags cut from the bonus image sheet.  I added some cute heart-shaped grommets and some thin twine to the tags. I also added a couple tickets, also cut from the papers. I added two pieces of chipboard to my design- one of the Scrapaholics birds from the kit, and the swirly circle from my stash.  I inked the bird with white pigment ink then added some of the Prima matte wax from the mixed media kit to get that purplish-blue color.  Once dry, I added some black pigment ink.

For the circle frame, I added a mixture of black, gold, silver, and graphite embossing powders. I added a mat and a title to the photo- those pieces are from my stash (Prima Marketing, Tim Holtz).

To complete the look, I added some of the 49 ans Market flowers- one from each pack in the kit.

Thanks for stopping by the blog!

Don’t forget that we are having a design team call- check out yesterday’s post!
