A tri-fold card, a template and a winner

Hey guys, Kim here. Today I have a project I created using the cards, tags and more kit. This is a beautiful shabby chic/floral kit. If you haven’t seen it, here it is:

This is a great kit to create feminine cards, birthdays, weddings or bright cheery get well cards. I used it to created a love card and used a template to create the base.

This is a 4×6 card.  I used a 6 x 12 sheet of cardstock  to create the base.

Here is the template to download:

Card template

How about some close-ups:

I used the template for the base of the card. Then I decided on my papers for all my sections. I inked all the edges before gluing them down.

I left the inside flap bare, this way I could add whatever sentiment I wanted later. This gives you a better look of how the card folds. I love the mix of patterns on the papers. The chipboard rose is from the kit. I used some diamond stickles from the mixed media kit to make it sparkle.

Here is another view of the back side of the card. You can add little pop-up elements all over this card. They make fun surprises.

Now for a winner.

Did you enter our September sketch challenge? What are you waiting for? Thanks to all who did join in. Remember, we have a new challenge each month.

Congratulations to:

Peggy Giovanetti.

Your prize will be included in your next kit.

Less Perfection Layout with Rae

Happy Sunday, crafty people!

I am sharing another layout that I made with the October scrapbook kit.  The beautiful shabby chic Blue Fern Studios papers from the Jane’s Memoirs collection have to be one of my favorite collections ever.  I love the colors, especially the dark accents of brown.  This piece of paper with the script images really got me thinking about how a sepia tone picture would look amazing with it, and  I was right!  Here’s what I came up with: For this layout I treated all of the layers by heavily distressing the edges, and soaking the edges in water, then I dipped the edges in a cup of the Nuvo spray in Cocoa Powder from the mixed media kit.  You can see that the Nuvo spray has lots of mica that makes the edges shiny, but only the brown color seeps into the paper fibers, creating a vignette effect.

I cut up several of the images from the “Calling Cards” sheet of paper and layered them. I also sprayed the Creative Embellishments decorative oval frame (the larger one from the kit).  In the closeup below, you can see the silver mica from the spray show up on the chipboard piece.
I had bits of lace left from my other projects, so I cut it up in smaller pieces and stuck them in between the paper layers. The title is from my stash (Prima Marketing), and I added some white gold and rose gold waxes to it so it would blend into the layout a bit.
For the flowers, I added a couple from my stash, and I inked them with brown chalk ink, also to blend the tones of the layout. Here’s another closeup that captures the beauty of the edges of the paper:Thanks for stopping by the blog!

Beginner Cards

Hello crafty friends! Jeanne here back to share with you these super cute cards that I created this week using the October Cards, Tags, & More. I had intended on this being a short tutorial since they are easy to put together for those of you who might have just started crafting and might get intimidated to create cards as I was. I unfortunately erased my photos by accident on my phone. I have the worst habit. But I’ll do this  on another blog post here in the near future. Anyhow I created these cards in no time and that I love about this kit is that it comes with everything you need to create a quick card.

I used the white card stock from the kit, as well as papers from the collection that was in the kit which is Couture Creations My Secret Love, I used some of the ephemera and stickers from that same collection. The only thing I added was the colored card stock , I added it in between the white card stock and design paper as well as some dimensional dots.

These cards were very easy to create and propping the ephemera and sentiment on pop dots makes the card have more interest. I know these are perfect for those who are beginning either in paper crafting or beginner in making cards in general. I know that when I began creating cards, I was pretty intimidated and I did go thru many YouTube videos , blogs , and of course Pinterest.

I hope that you like what I created with this beautiful card kit for this month. There are still kits left so don’t hesitate, run over to Tres Jolie and get your hands on this kit or if you want to purchase one of the mixed media or scrapbook kits too, go to this link and see them there. There are also kits from previous months for sale as well.

See you all next week again! I will be back with my sketch challenge project I created. Please join up, you don’t have to have one of these kits to join, work with what you have. We would love to see what you create and you can win something great from Tres Jolie if you put your entry here.

Hugs,

Jeanne Rodriguez

Tres Jolie Kit Club-October Mixed Media Kit-Art Journaling

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I am bringing you an Art Journal spread I created using the mediums found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit.

I find Art Journaling can be freeing and relaxing. There isn’t a need to have a plan going in, I think it’s impossible to “make a mistake,” and you can practice with your mediums!

In the video I go over the different items (also listed at the end of this post) I used to make this spread and I show the process involved.

Video:

I first coated the pages in my art journal with some clear gesso, then started layering my stencils for the background – drying in between each layer. After my background was finished I just started drawing! The paints are no longer water-reactive once they are dry, so I only worried about using my Workable Fixatif when I wanted my Stabilo pencils to stay put!

I didn’t worry about trying to make everything “perfect,” I just went along adding color and designs as I felt the “need” for them. After the background stenciling, I added my leafy vines, mushrooms, and leaf. I mixed some of the Nuvo Sparkle Spray with some clear gesso to make it more of a paint and (tried) using it to create some shadow effects and to color my leaf some. After I had it painted on I watered the remaining mixture down some and splattered it across the pages. The final step to the spread was to draw on the border around the pages.

Thank you for joining us here at Tres Jolie, I hope this project gave you some ideas of what you can do with the mediums found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit!

Stay Crafty, Friends!

Studio Stencil, *TCW “Mini Art Deco Leaves” Stencil, Echo Park “Mini Leaves” Stencil, *Prima Waterbrush, Stabilo Black & White, Sharpie Pen – Black, Prima/Finnabair Heavy White Gesso, Liquitex Clear Gesso, Ranger Heat-It Craft Tool, Ranger Blending Tool, Krylon Workable Fixatif, Dina Wakley Media Journal 8” x 10”

The Unconventional Dream Catcher

Happy Wednesday everyone!!  Michelle here and I hope you guys are enjoying some fall-ish weather where you are.   Today I’m sharing this somewhat unconventional dreamcatcher I made with the October mixed media kit.

I was brainstorming some unique ways I wanted to use these awesome kit and tried a few things that were more traditional before I realized that I just needed to stay true to my usual style and design ascetic.  You know I love to white wash, ink and rub with gold so that’s exactly what I did!  lol

I started out by giving the wooden cut out by Lucky Dip a light coat of white spray paint then I watered down the “Peacock” & “Eggplant” Dina Wakley paints from Ranger and applied them with sort of a splash and dab technique with a paint brush.

Once all that Had dried well I used a black stamp pad and inked up all the edges well.

Next I used the NUVO sparkle spray in “Coco Powder” to spray the wooden feather cut outs.  After it’s dry I applied some of the watered down “Peacock” Dina Wakley paint to highlight them.  I just applied it with my fingers.  Once again I inked the edges up with a black stamp pad.

I found some Prima flowers in my stash from a previous kit and applied more of the watered down Dina Wakley Ranger paints to them (some I watered down more than others to give various shades) and then rubbed them with some gold metallic wax.

Finally I added some bits and pieces of scrap papers, die cuts and stickers to finish the look.  I added Tim Holtz paper dolls and A Vintage Girl and Her Daughter Stickers from my stash.

Here she is all put together!  You would display it like this on an easel or hang it in a special place.

Thank you for stoping by today.  I hope you were inspired to create something beautiful!

“Courage” Layout with Rae

Hello! Happy Sunday!

Have you seen our sketch for our monthly challenge? Take a look:

So beautiful! I love all the layers! Here’s my take on the sketch:

This Blue Fern Studios Jane’s Memoirs collection is so beautifully designed that I didn’t feel like it needed any stamping or stenciling, so I kept this design pretty simple. For the large layers, I added some lace from my stash. The smaller layers under the picture are just cut from the papers and the Bits and Bobs ephemera pack. The chipboard circle is a basic cut out from my Cameo machine.  I added some mixed embossing powders (gold, silver, and black) for a distressed metal look. The large lace at the bottom of the circle is from the kit, as well as the Prima Marketing and 49 and Market flowers at the ends of the lace. (The blue flowers on this layout and the keys are from my stash from Prima Marketing.)

To complete the look of the design to match the sketch, I added some chipboard pieces. The Butterfly is from Creative Embellishments, from the kit.  I used gold and white embossing powders to achieve that finish. The rest of the chipboard pieces are from my stash.

These two pieces below are a set  from Blue Fern Studios, and they coordinate with the Jane’s Memoirs collection.  I used the same embossing powders on the scroll piece as I did on the circle.  I double embossed this  flower piece- first with white, and then with a green glaze. I “overused” the heat gun until the white started to bubble up.

Lastly, I added a another piece of chipboard from my stash (Prima Marketing), treating it with speckled egg Distress Oxide ink and then sprinkling on some white and gold embossing powders, and added more flowers to frame the title.

Thanks for stopping by the blog!

My Secret Love Shabby Purse Attache

Hello crafty friends! Today I am here on the Tres Jolie Blog to share with u this month’s first project where I use the October Cards, Tags, & More Kit from Tres Jolie. I absolutely was inspired by the beautiful projects that Tara Brown, a designer for Pion Designs. Her projects stand out and are very unique. So for this project I created, I followed one of her tutorials for this project which is a Purse Attaché.

I made the base with the white card stock that came in the kit, a couple of the papers from the Couture Creations paper collection, some of the ephemera pieces, flowers from the kit and one of the Creative Embellishments Chipboard  as well.

I did the base then when I finished cutting the design papers up, I used my Prima distress tool on all of the edges of the papers. Once they were adhered to the base, I went over them with gesso (from a previous Tres Jolie kit) and dry brushed on areas of the project. Once I did the embellishing on the lid and on the front side area, I went over those with the gesso as well. On the chipboard from Creative Embellishments, I used the same gesso on it .

On the lid, I did add a magnet so it would stay shut, I also added a wood piece & some Finnabair Art Pebbles from previous Tres Jolie kits as well.

On the inside I made some tabbed sections, days of the week. On the photo you can kind of see the alphas I used which were some older ones I had in my stash from Basic Grey. They are pretty light so I apologize for my photo being hard to see. I then added some of the post cards from the Ephemera Package in those slots.

But you can make this however you want, you can put month’s on there, or even use this cute purse as a recipe box too. I do hope you like what I created and try it out yourselves. Since the holiday’s are coming up quick, I think these would make cute gifts too. While your on Tara’s website, I hope you will look at all of the beautiful creations she has done through out the years!! See you all next week! Till then I hope you will visit daily to find some of the rest of the Tres Jolie designers share their amazing projects using the Scrapbook and Mixed Media kits! Also don’t forget to join this month’s sketch challenge.

Xoxo,

Jeanne

Tres Jolie Kit Club–October Mixed Media Kit-Follow Along With Us

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

For my first project this month I am bringing you my Dreamcatcher! For this project, I only used some white gesso from my stash in addition to the items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit, and I hope I have made the video in a way that you will be able to follow along with! I rarely know what direction a project is going when I start it, but I try to edit the video in a way that allows you to see the steps I took!

Check out the video for my process of how I went about adding the color to my Dreamcatcher, and follow along if you’d like!

Video:

Pretty simple, right? But the results are just fabulous! And, as you’ll see as you use your Dina Wakley paints, a little bit goes a long way!

Here on the main piece of the Dreamcatcher, you can see how I created a rainbow effect using all four paints from the kit and blending where two colors met. After my paint was dry I used the Stickles from the kit to outline all of the edges.

For the feathers, I mixed some white gesso with the Nuvo spray from the kit and brushed it on. After that was dry I added my Dina Wakley paints, again blending where the colors met. For the final touch, I brushed on a light coating of the Stickles to give some sparkle all over the feather.

I hope you enjoyed this quick & easy project using this month’s Mixed Media kit and I hope it gave you some ideas of what can be done with the mediums found in this month’s kit!

Thank-you!

October 2020 Mixed Media Kit:

Still Becoming – Mixed Media Journal Entry

Happy Wednesday!!  I’m breaking into my October mixed media kit and I’m so inspired!  I just loved those wooden feathers included with that Lucky Dip Dream Catcher so I had to use them to the fullest extent!

For this journal entry, I’m working in a journal I made during a class I took from the super talented Jeanie Oliver so everything looks fabulous on these plaster covered pages!  But I’ll share that little tid bit with you too.  The pages in this journal are created using canvas painters drop cloth and I smeared thick plaster of Paris and allowed to dry.  You can scratch into it while wet or press things into it to create unique textures but for this page it’s just plain plaster.

I dripped a drip of brown ink on it for some character.

Then I laid down one of those wooden feathers from the Lucky Dip Dream Catcher and used it like a mask.  I sprayed the “Coco” NUVO Sparkle Spray over it and removed it to leave the image of the feather behind.

Then I took and old gift card and squirted a bit of the “Peacock” paint along the edge of it and dabbed it on the page to create the lines across the bottom of the feather.

Finally I attached some A Vintage Girl & Her Daughter Stickers from my stash using some pop dots for added dimension.  I drew the strings for the lights to give them the appearance that they are actually hanging.

It’s a pretty simple page but very impactful.  This technique could be used in so many ways though, for cards, scrapbook pages, wrapping paper, you name it!  So much fun!

Well thank you for stopping by!  I hope you have been inspired to create something beautiful today!
