“Own Your Dreams” Canvas with Rae

Happy Monday!

We’ve seen some gorgeous projects this month from our design team this month, and today I’m sharing my canvas I made using the mixed media kit:

I recently bought a couple of the Ranger Distress Oxide sprays, and I am HOOKED!  The technique possibilities are endless, but so far, what I really like to use them on are dark surfaces.  Here’s the result of adding the sprays to a canvas primed with black gesso:

I started out by adding stenciling with crackle paste to the entire canvas in the kit.  Once dry, I added a smaller canvas somewhat centered, and added some crackle paste to this one as well.  I used a few things from my stash to complete the design, but I chose my focal point to be the image of the lady from the Prima Marketing mould set.  I added an older Prima resin oval frame to the smaller canvas to “house” the focal point.  I found some chipboard to add that I thought would make nice pieces to showcase the flowers made with the modeling material. Once the placement was complete, I painted the entire canvas with black gesso.  Here’s a closeup that shows the stenciling and finish details:

Once dry,  I added the Ranger Distress Oxide Sprays. I started out with Antique Linen because it was the lightest if the colors.  While still damp, I added the Bundled Sage spray, then dried those colors with a heat gun.  Next I added more of the Bundled Sage spray, then added a lot of Faded Jeans spray. Then, I added a few sprays of Speckled Egg spray (from my stash), then set aside to dry.The next day, I rubbed the canvas with a paper towel- the sprays were dried, and the finish is kind of powdery, so rubbing it revealed some of the black gesso under the sprays. I added some wax in white gold from my stash, then added some of the gold Lindy’s mica powder to the bottom canvas, and random other places.  I added clear glass beads with gloss gel surrounding the “lady,” and a Tim Holtz title from my stash that I distressed a bit, inked blue, and glued down.

Tres Jolie Kit Club – August Cards, Tags, & More Kit

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you an album I made using the August 2020 Cards, Tags, & More kit! This kit was aimed towards an album, providing the chipboard and album base pages needed to get you going with the paper & embellishments! And well the kit may have included a set of split rings and the pages were pre-marked for holes, I went a different route and used part of the chipboard to create a hard spine.

Due to technical difficulties with sections of the process video, I decided to just create a walk-through/flip-through of the final album. Check it out!

Video:

I used some White Artisan Cardstock from Country Craft Creations to build my cover and on my photo sleeves because it is a linen cardstock, making it nice and sturdy for creating hinges. To insert the pages, I used some Linen Hinging Tape from LineCo. It’s nice and thin, but because it is linen it will be able to take being used as a hinge! After I had my base put together I started adding in the patterned paper from the kit, then worked my way up to adding in the photo sleeves and card flip-outs. Finally, I added the embellishments I wanted on the inside pages before turning my attention to the cover.

For the cover I used the pearl strips from the kit, spacing them two inches to the center. Finally I created my flower cluster on the front cover and added on of the resin pieces where the seam binding was attached.

Now, how about some photos? I have the front and back covers first, followed by the pages in the order they are in the album.

Some of my flaps close with magnets (from my stash) and some have tie closures using the seam binding found in this months kit!

Here are the measurements for the photo inserts. For reference, “Solid Cardstock” with the circles is the light purple cardstock in my album that I used from my stash, “Patterned Paper” with the circles is the paper from the kit, and the solid rectangles is the white linen cardstock from my stash that have an extra one-half inch for the flips.

I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done using the items in this month’s Cards, Tags, & More Kit!

“This Beautiful Life” Layout

Hello dear friends and welcome back to the Tres Jolie Kits blog!

Today I’m sharing a layout of my little guy (aka my adorable grandson!…LOL). I took this photo when he was lying on my daughter’s lap,  thoroughly  mesmerized by all the birds flying overhead in our backyard. I just love this photo and the gorgeous AB Studio “Diva” papers in this month’s Scrapbooking Kit enhance it beautifully.

For this layout I chose three complimentary papers from the collection and a paper doily from my stash to frame the photo. Then I played with the Prima flowers (LOVE these colors!) that were included in the kit and arranged them around the bottom right of the photo. To add a little dark balance I adhered one of the Scrapoholic Skeleton keys to the upper left.

As a final touch I added the Prima Darcelle sentiment and then decided to tuck the vellum paper from the Prima flower packaging behind the paper layers. I quite like that special touch!

Tres Jolie Kit Club – August 2020 Mixed Media Kit – Pen/Pencil/Paintbrush Holders

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bring you my third mixed media project of the month using items from this month’s Mixed Media kit. I decided to add a bit of decoration to my craft room by turning two cans into pen-pencil-paintbrush holders.

My new paintbrush holders went together quickly and easily; most of the time I spent on these was dry time! Check out my video below to see how I did it all.

Video:

I, carefully, glued the mould pieces to my cans immediately after forming them (using some E6000) to make sure they were molded to the curve of the can.

I grabbed up some crackle paint (from a previous Tres Jolie kit) and gave everything a nice coating. I didn’t add mould pieces all the way around my cans because, in my case, they are going to be against a wall, so I didn’t think it was necessary, but you can decorate your cans however works best for your style!

I sprayed the three Distress Oxide Sprays on the cans, and after they were dry I used some Krylon Workable Fixatif before adding the Liquid Acrylic Paint and using the Lindy’s Magical Powder on the mould pieces.

As I mentioned in the video, I did a final seal on my cans using some Mod Podge Matte Acrylic Sealer, and I have since ran my cans under water and “scrubbed” them with my hands. I am happy to report that nothing came off!

I hope you enjoyed this project and it gave you an idea of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media kit! Stay Crafty, friends!

Simple Card Trio

Hello friends!

Happy Tuesday and welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog. Today I’d like to share with with a very simple card trio using the August Cards, Tags & More kit. This is such a fun, versatile kit and can be easily mixed with elements from our companion Scrapbooking and Mixed Media kits.

The first card I’d like to share is based on this month’s sketch for our challenge at the Tres Jolie Cafe. I thought it would be fun to show how easily you can create a card from a layout sketch.

Here’s the sketch…it’s a beauty!

And here’s my card…

This card was so simple to make. I cut an inch off one of the white album pages (basically removing the binding holes) that are included in the kit and used it as my card base. I then applied crackle paste (my favorite medium!) randomly to the entire base and began layering my elements. I just LOVE the colors in this kit. The Craft O’ Clock papers are so stunning and Kim chose the perfect coordinating embellishments!

For my second card I tore a strip of the blue script patterned paper , layered tags and Prima leaves from the scrapbooking kit, floral cut outs, and flowers. For a cohesive look on all three cards I added seam binding as a final element.

I also used a torn strip of patterned paper as the base for my last card. I literally took a hodge podge of elements that were on my desk and adhered them in layers to create my composition. For a final touch I mixed a bit of the Bundled Sage distress oxide spray with water and brushed it lightly into a few nooks and crannies.

That’s a wrap! I hope you enjoyed these quick, simple cards. Notice they have no sentiments – I decided to leave them blank for now. I will add personalization when I’ve decided who I am sending them to.

Enjoy the rest of your week friends – and be sure to visit our blog again soon- it’s updated often with gorgeous creations and inspiration from my other design teammates.

Hugs,
Cris

Mixed Media Monday

Hey everyone, Kim here. I’m serving up some mixed media madness today, working with the August 2020 Mixed Media kit.

Here is the Mixed Media kit if you haven’t already seen it:

Here is the project I created with the kit:

How about some close-ups:

I used the mould from the kit and a mould from my stash to create the center piece. The background was created with a stencil and some modeling paste, then everything was covered in 2 layers of black gesso.

Once the gesso was dry,  I layered the distress oxide sprays starting with lightest to darkest. Once I sprayed the oxide spray, I then misted it with water to deepen the oxide effect.

After I was happy with the distress oxide effects. I used the magicals in the kit and mixed it with a bit of water to create a paste. I took my finger and rubbed it on the high points of the moulds.

Once it was done, I realized it needed a little something more. I pulled out the black ink and added the splatters. I think that finished it off perfectly.

“Beautiful” Layout with Rae

Happy Sunday, everyone!

By now you’ve seen some of the gorgeous projects that our design team has made using the August scrapbook kit, and here’s the last one that I have made:I adore this AB Studios piece of paper that I used for the background.  The details are so striking that I designed my layout so that the gold and lacy images would still pop. I kept it simple- no stenciling or stamping this time. 🙂

I started out by treating the chipboard pieces: for the Dusty Attic dangles that came in the kit, I used some gold and black embossing powders, then pressed a black pigment ink pad onto the dried embossing powder for more of a distressed look.  The leafy circle under the picture is also Dusty Attic (from my stash) which I added multiple colors of embossing powders for a mottled look.

For the flowers, I added the lovely Prima Marketing flowers and some gold leaves, also Prima Marketing. Other touches include fussy cutting the Prima Marketing ephemera title which I also added some yellowish ink to so it wasn’t so stark white.

I used several layers of the Prima Darcelle ephemera for the photo matting.  I added a dictionary paper, lace, and film strip ribbon from my stash to bulk up the layers.

Thanks for stopping by the blog!

Mini Tag Books

Hello crafty friends! Today I am sharing these adorable mini tag books I created using the August Cards, Tags, & More kit. I had the two sheets left from the beautiful papers from Craft O’Clock so thought they would look super cute as mini books you are able to journal in.

This project came together pretty fast , even if you don’t have this exact collection , you can create something similar by making your own tags, using any ephemera you have on hand or are able to print out some as well as sentiments . I used some sticker sentiments from the Finnabair Sentiments Sticker Book from another past Tres Jolie kit.

On one of the sets, I added some Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Seedless Preserves around all of the edges of my tags. I used small pop foam dots on the ephemera I added to the tags. For the sentiments, I used some colored/white card stock to back them onto. I also cut some white card stock to add to the back of the tags to add small photos or just use them to journal on.

This paper collection from Craft O’Clock was very beautiful and considering I wasn’t much for purple, I truly loved creating using this month’s Card, Tags, & More kit. I hope that you all use up every last piece of your papers. Even using scraps , you can come up with some great gift ideas.  I thought also of maybe altering an altoid tin to maybe store these tags books in.

The last thing I did was add some of the beautiful seam binding from the kit on one of the tag books and added some twine on the other one. I also added some of the pearls & bling from the kit. *Note: I didn’t post every single photo on here since they would be too many since I used some of the more narrow tags as well. I did share the main photos though. I hope that you like my project this week. Don’t forget there is still time to join in this month’s sketch challenge going on on the Tres Jolie facebook group. Join in you just might win!!

I will see ya all next time!! Hugs, Jeanne

Tres Jolie Kit Club–August 2020 Sketch-“This Beautiful Life”

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

This week I am bringing you a layout I created for this month’s sketch challenge using the August 2020 Scrapbooking Kit! This kit includes the scrumptious “Diva” papers from A.B. Studio, some beautiful Prima flowers and ephemera, chipboard from Dusty Attic and Scrapaholics, and a pack of resin pieces from Scrapberry. DSC_0005-FRAMED

I just adore the “Diva” Collection, and it took me a little while to figure out exactly what I was going to do with it, and to tell the truth, the large cut out bonus piece in the pack did a lot of the work for me! Check out the sketch this month, then look below it to see my process video!

August 2020 Tres Jolie Sketch:

August sketch

Process Video:

DSC_0015-FRAMED DSC_0036-FRAMED

To add a little texture to the background I did some water distressing along the edge of the blue-grey paper and added some light stenciling, using an Art Anthology stencil and some texture paste from my stash, where it would peek out from behind my layers.

DSC_0010-FRAMED DSC_0016-FRAMED

Even though fussy cutting isn’t my most favorite part of crafting, I just had to add in some of the black & white flowers and foliage from the cut apart sheet in the “Diva” collection. For my chipboard keys and ornaments I pulled out a couple of Prima Fluid Chalks (that came in previous Tres Jolie kits) and just dabbed them on!

DSC_0006-FRAMED DSC_0007-FRAMED

Those Prima flowers were the perfect complement to the “Diva” papers, and the pack of “Darcelle” ephemera gave me the piece I needed for the perfect title.

If you haven’t checked out my video yet, that photo is of my grandmother and mother, which I edited and added that sparkle filter to.Thank you for joining us here at Tres Jolie! I hope my layout and take on this month’s sketch inspired you and gave you some ideas for your next project!
