Tres Jolie Kit Club – July 2020 Cards, Tags, & More Kit

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog!

Today I’m bringing you the junk journal I created using this month’s Cards, Tags, & More Kit. I had such a blast making this journal, and even though I didn’t originally intend to kill the kit, as I kept going it became a personal challenge to see if I could get everything in!

For the video, I put the flip-through in at the beginning, then followed it up with the process. I hope you take a peek at it and enjoy it! Below the video, I have added a few photos of the finished journal.

Video:

I used the new Tim Holtz color, “Speckled Egg,” throughout the journal. It went beautifully with the Stamperia papers that came in this month’s kit. For the resin pieces, I used some of the “Speckled Egg” oxide and embossing glaze, and some “Gathered Twig” Distress Crayon.

I pieced together the smaller “left-over” pieces to cover the “manila” colored tags that came in the kit and added some string from my stash.

I cut out the ATC sized cards from the paper and attached them to one side of the popcorn bag that came in my kit! (Your bag may be different) I turned the two music prints into envelopes and added them in, and peeking out of this one is a little notebook I made from the largest left-over piece I had and some standard notebook paper.

The final page and inside of the back cover, which contains a flip out.

I hope you enjoyed this project and had a chance to see my process video, most of it is sped up, but I do stop to explain in quite a few areas! Thank you for joining us here at Tres Jolie!

Mixed Media Panel with Rae

Happy Sunday!

By now you’ve seen a number of stunning projects made with the July Mixed Media kit by our design team.  This kit was so much fun to work with!

Alcohol inks, beautiful flowers, a whole page page of elements to fussy cut, and two different projects from AB Studios: a 12X12 chipboard panel and acrylic gear pieces.  I decided to use the chipboard panel:

I began by adding some clear matte embossing powder to the panel.  Then I added the orange and yellow alcohol inks to most of the panel, and added a bit of purple to round it out.  I let the ink dry, then I gave the entire piece a heavy coating of the snow cap alcohol ink then I blasted the wet ink with a heat gun until it bubbled and dried creating a layered distressed effect.  You can see how the finish looks in the closeups:

I used a Prima resin frame from my stash to create a focal point for the project.  If you don’t have anything similar, a cut out image of a frame, or just some paper layers would work just as well.

I cut several flowers from the AB Studios paper and added them to poke out from under the actual flowers, all of which are 49 and Market.  (The small purple ones are from my stash.)  I whitewashed the flowers with diluted gesso to soften the look of the project.

I added a Prima Marketing resin dragonfly from the scrapbook kit to complete the project.  I added some alcohol ink (purple and orange) as well as some gold wax past for a shimmery finish.

Thanks for stopping by the blog!

“Be You” Tag Flip Mini Album

Happy Saturday friends!

So grateful to share this sweet little tag flip album with you today. I’ve used my scraps from the July Scrapbooking kit and lots of stuff from my stash. Now I realize that you may not have everything I used for this project but that’s okay! Think of this as inspiration. Your kit has everything you need to create many beautiful projects, you needn’t do exactly what we do, we’re just here to jumpstart your creativity and help you generate your own ideas. Everyone has different styles and preferences –  feel free to take it all in and use similar elements from your own stash.

As I mentioned this project was created with scraps…beautiful scraps I might add! The base of the album are the five manila tags that were included in the July Cards, Tags, & More kit. I used my leftover flowers and pieces of vintage lace (that I seriously wanted to hoard!) from that kit as well. I also used one of the the alcohol ink from the July Mixed Media kit.  I didn’t have full sheets of paper in my scraps, so I fussy cut some elements from what I had left over from the Scrapboys paper (Scrapbooking kit).

From my stash I used seam binding, metallic keys, gesso, and a few mixed media elements – Prima Art Stones, and Finnabair metallic wax, glass beads and glass glitter. I typed out my sentiments on my computer using a vintage typewriter font, and sealed everything with soft gel medium.

Because I had limited product I decided to make something with a lot of words, hence all the quotes, but you could also add photos instead. Think creatively about how to work with your scraps – I like fussy cutting and piecing little bits paper together. If that’s not your thing then focus on creating other smaller projects like ATCs, fun envelopes,  or handmade embellishments to use on other projects.

I’m all about self-care these days so my little tag flip contains quotes about loving yourself. The first quote: “True love is an inside job”

“Remind yourself that you cannot fail at being yourself”

“Loving yourself is the greatest revolution”

‘Be proud of who you are and not ashamed of how someone else sees you”

“You are allowed to be a masterpiece and a work in progress simultaneously”

Love these quotes! They remind us hat we are beautiful just the way we are and to love ourselves for who we are NOW.

Here’s a quick walk-through and process video:

Rustic Shabby Chic Mini Album for Tres Jolie Kits Mood Board Challenge

Hello crafty friends!! This week I am back to share what I created this month for the the July Mood Board Challenge. I used the stunning July Scrapbook Kit which included the papers from Scrapboys “Dream Garden”! This kit was filled with flowers which I love and I am pretty sure I used all of them with the exception of maybe a few blue ones. I always try not to make my mini albums so chunky but that is always a fail! I can’t help it! I hope u like what I have come up with for this challenge! There is still time for YOU to enter as well! So hurry and share with us what you have created for this mood board challenge!

For the base of this album I used one of the premade chipboard albums from Frank Garcia which is a Memory Hardware Album, it measures 5.5 x 7.5. I usually paint the edges of my albums with Antique White Acrylic Paint but lately I love how the Tonic Studios Embellishment Mousse in Chai Latte.

Its a little light so you might not be able to tell but it does give it a little pop of color and shimmer as well.

I then distressed the edges with my Prima Marketing Distress Tool   and I also used some Tim Holtz Vintage Photo Distress Ink on the edges as well. This gives it a more rustic look rather than just Shabby Chic.

Once I adhered my papers I began adding some Ivory non brand card stock photo mats backed with American Crafts Pink Textured Card stock and I also added some of the 49&Market Sky Stitched Frames that were in the kit. I did end up cutting up some of the tags from a past kit from Tres Jolie that had the perfect color combo to go with this album. I also used a Dusty Attic Chipboard frame that was also from a past kit. But you can use what ever you want to embellish your album if you don’t have these on hand.

I did use some of the cut outs from the “Dream Garden” sheet. I also used up the rest of the Shabby Chic Bugs from Prima Marketing that were also in the scrapbook kit. I also added some of the  Ballerina Liquid Pearls from Ranger on the wings and body of the resin butterfly, these liquid pearls were also a part of the Scrapbook kit.

Here is a quick video where I share the entire album:

I do hope that you find some inspiration from my project as well as from the other Tres Jolie Designers. If you have never made a mini album and feel intimidated to try it, these premade chipboard albums make it SO MUCH EASIER. I hope you will give it a try and share with us!!

See you all in August!! I’m excited to share my projects with you!!

HUGS

Tres Jolie Kit Club-July Mixed Media Kit-Use Your Wings

Hey, all!

Welcome back to the Tres Jolie blog. Today I’m bringing you my final project this month using the second transparent gear from A.B. Studio that came in the kit, along with the alcohol inks from the kit and some items from my stash.

DSC_0100-FRAMED

For this project, I really wanted to showcase the transparent nature of that A.B. Studio gear so I used a gel medium to add some texture while retaining the transparency. Check out the video below to see the whole process as I was doing it!

Video:

DSC_0103-FRAMED

I really wanted a ton of texture on my gear, so in addition to the stenciling, I have some sisel and some texture beads.

DSC_0102-FRAMED

I used the “Sunshine Yellow,” and “Sunset Orange” alcohol inks in the area where I would be placing the cluster.

DSC_0110-FRAMED

I used clear embossing power on some of the cut-out pieces, then used the “Purple Twilight” alcohol ink and the “Snow Cap” Mixative to add some color to the mushroom tops and some of the flower clusters. When I sprayed the ink with some rubbing alcohol I just let it bleed out how it wanted. I didn’t dry to clean it up or move it.

DSC_0111-FRAMED

On a few of the other embossed, cut-out pieces I used some of the “Snow Cap” Mixative.

DSC_0109-FRAMED

I think the olive green on the butterfly and words was the perfect complementary color to use with the three colors of alcohol inks that came in this month’s kit.

Thank you for joining us here at Tres Jolie, I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media kit. I hope to see you again soon!

Mixing it up with alcohol inks

Happy Hump Day Y’all!!

Michelle here, playing around with my alcohol inks from this month’s mixed media kit and I thought I would video it and take you guys along for the ride.

Since we get these awesome full size mediums in our kits we have plenty to play around with once the main component of the kit is gone.  Why not try something new, fresh and exciting?  So here we go!

I mixed these inks with crackle texture paste, gel medium, sprayed with alcohol, etc.  I applied it to water color paper tags, yupo art paper, even glassine sandwich bags!  The results were so fun!  Check out the video and see how it all came out!

This is the completed backgrounds from all our experimenting!!  I just love the effects!

Check out the video above and go make your own!

And here are a few completed projects I made using the backgrounds I created.  It was fun to just play!  I hope you will be inspired to do the same!

Mixed Media Monday Madness

Hey everyone, Kim here. I’m serving up some mixed media madness today, working with the July 2020 Mixed Media kit.

Here is the Mixed Media kit if you haven’t already seen it:

Here is the project I created with the kit:

How about some close-ups:

I did a lot of fussy cutting of flowers from the 12×12 sheet in the kit. I layered them all around using foam tape to give them some dimension.

All the flowers on here came from the kit. You can see more of the fussy cut flowers. This went together fairly quick after I got everything cut out.

For the background, I first added a coat of clear gesso. I didn’t want the alcohol inks to soak in to fast. Once dried, I used mostly the yellow and orange inks. I blended those until I was happy. I added a small amount of the purple.

Once I was happy with the background, I did a light swipe of the snowcap randomly of the entire piece.  I was happy the way it turned out.

Once it was done, I realized it needed something in the center. I added this butterfly from my stash to the middle and it was the perfect touch. Finally I was done.

“Forever” Layout with Rae

Happy Sunday, crafty people!

Today I am sharing a layout I made using the July scrapbook kit.  Here’s what came int he kit this month:

I love the classic “shabby chicness” of these papers, but my favorite thing about this collection is the grey hues on some of the papers, so I kind of focused on playing with some toned down hues to go along with that grey.  Here’s what I came up with:

I started out by distressing and ripping the top grey paper, and adding it to one of the papers with a purple hue.  I added a lot of stenciling using a classic swirly Prima stencil and some white crackle paste.  Once dry, I used some grey ink over the stenciling.

I did a bit of fussy cutting for a few of the elements in the cluster: the frame, flowers, leaves and clocks.  I added some diluted gesso to those for a faded effect.  The same treatment was dome to the flowers- the white ones are from the kit (49 and Market) and the pink ones are OLD Petaloo from my stash.

The fence is from an old die (I think it’s Memory Box) that I cut and then embossed with black and silver embossing powder to give it some texture and ability to look old and distressed.

I also added white and gold embossing powder to the Creative Embellishments chipboard swirls. Lastly, I added some of the Liquid Pearls from the kit to the chipboard title (from my stash) as you can see here:

“Eyes Wide Shut” Canvas Journal

Hello friends,

Happy Saturday to you! I’m excited to share a fun journal I created with the July Cards, Tags & More kit, which features the stunning “Imagine” collection by Stamperia…

The base of my project is a Tim Holtz canvas journal (included your kit!). I started by collaging a piece of vintage music sheet from the kit, with a torn piece of paper from the Stamperia collection.  I fussy cut this gorgeous female image from the collection for the cover,  as well as a few flowers from the Mixed Media kit. I love combining elements from all 3 kits in my projects; it’s easy to do because they all coordinate so well together. This entire project is just a lot of collaging and layering. The first spread features book pages, ephemera and flowers from the kit. I also used a few flowers from our June Scrapbooking kit and a butterfly I found in my stash.

The doily flips down to reveal two tags from the collection. I used Fabri-Tac and soft gel medium as adhesives. I also dry-brushed white gesso on each page.  The second spread is my favorite, and inspired the journal’s name. I love that image on the right – the woman’s eyes are closed as if she’s dreaming or in deep contemplation. I was taken with how calm and content she looks.

I adhered the Dream sentiment on the bottom because I think her expression is symbolic of the power we have when we close our eyes; We have within us the ability to intentionally pull ourselves away from any stressful situation by simply closing our eyes. We also have the ability to dream, contemplate, meditate, pray and just “be”. We can escape or choose to stay focused. I think that’s an awesome power and why I titled the journal “Eyes Wide Shut”.For the next spread I adhered one of the beautiful lace pieces Kim provides in our kits on the left page and created a simple collage around it. The opposite page consists of collaged paper pieces and one of the fun dress images from the Stamperia collection.

The rest of the journal consists of collaged paper pieces adhered with Fabri-Tac and sealed with soft matte gel. I also randomly stamped in sepia ink  throughout. I used one of the 49& Market stitched frames from and florals from the Scrapbooking kit on the following spread. This is the last spread the journal and a very special one because my design teammate Jeanne, who also helped create this kit,  provided the gorgeous decoupaged glassine bag on the left filled with lots of goodies for us to use on our projects. Thank you Jeanne!

Thank you for visiting today. I hope you enjoyed my project and will take minute to check out the amazing work by our other designers. Seriously these girls knock it out of the park every month and I am honored beyond words to be working alongside them. There is so much happening in our little corner of the world – visit us through the following links so we can get to know you better!
