“Friends” Layout with Rae

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Today I am sharing a last layout I made with the October kit.

I kept this layout fairly simple because I just feel in love with this piece of paper from the 13 Arts paper from the Rose Fields collection. I started out by cutting the paper slightly and distressed the edges. Next, I added some faux stitching using a sewing wheel and a fine point black marker.

I also added some stenciling using a large distressed circle stencil- I added white crackle paste, then painted on some of the 13 Arts turquoise spray from the kit.

Under the picture, I added some of the cutouts from the 13 Arts elements sheet. I used a piece of the Prima paper for a photo mat, and some lace from my stash.

I added to flower clusters, some of the blue ones are from my stash. In this closeup, you can one of the metal frames from the kit peeking from under the photo. I added some of the Prima paper with numbers to it after painting it with gesso and I added some white gold wax paste.

I used a couple of different shades of green chalk ink to the 13 Arts chipboard leaves. I cut them to fit under the flowers. I sprayed the chipboard title with the turquoise spray. I love that the 13 Arts chipboard is white- it cuts out the first step of paint it! 🙂

On the other side of the cluster I added a piece of the Dusty Attic chipboard that I added some white gold wax paste to.Thanks for stopping by the blog today!

“Just You” Layout with Rae

Happy Sunday!

Today I am sharing a layout I made based on the October sketch created by Kim:

Isn’t that sketch lovely?

Here’s my interpretation of the sketch:

This 13 Arts “Rose Fields” paper is beyond gorgeous! I adore the different shades of pinks mixed with black and white with hints of green. You MUST get this kit if you are not a subscriber!

I started out with cutting down and distressing the “wood plank” paper so I could see a lot of the black of the first layer, as I wanted to add some elegant black accents and I wanted them to pop.

I added the white lace across the layout as the sketch has that design element, and then built my layers around the photo. I used some Prima Misty Rose paper for a mat, then added it to the gold frame that came in one of the Prima flower packs.I added some stamping to peek from under the right side of the photo, then added some of the chipboard flowers which I inked black.

On the left side of the cluster, I added some cut outs from the Rose Fields paper, and a doily die cut. I added another piece of chipboard that I inked black as well as the title, which I inked using a peachy colored chalk ink.  I just love how much chipboard came int he kit this month! Then I added my flowers and some butterflies from my stash.

Lastly, I added the cluster to the lower left side of the layout, keeping it simple, replicating the colors and elements from the top cluster- black chipboard swirl, flower, and another butterfly from my stash, from the Prima Misty Rose collection.

‘Roses’ canvas by Ginny

Welcome to my second project of the month for Tres Jolie October Kit.

Today I thought I would share with you my Mixed Media Kit Project.

This month we had a lovely large square canvas and the gorgeous watercolours from Prima. What a treat to be able to create with these!

Here is the Mixed Media Kit

And so lets look at a few photos of how I created this canvas.

I only used a limited amount of colours from the Metallic Accents set for this canvas. I kept to all the pinks and paler colours through to the grey.
With a wide 3/4 inch paint brush I painted on the various colours one at a time in random spots over the background of the canvas, letting them blend and run together to create a marbled effect. Later I used a smaller brush to add some paint splats.

The water colour paint are so easy to use. I start them off with a spray of water to activate them and use them from the individual pots, I also use the palette tray in the lid, to blend some of the colours together and to add more water to get a really watery mixture going for a ‘wash’.

The chipboard pieces were in the scrapbook kit. These I simply covered with a white embossing powder.

I used the journal card sheet, cut them all up individually, distressed the edges and backed them onto a piece of light 12×12 paper from the scrapbook kit and distressed those too.

I fussy cut these flower clusters out from one of the 13 Arts papers

I splatted some of the metallic paint on the background

Now to layer up the design. I used some cardboard behind some of the journal cards to ‘lift’ them up. This enabled me to slot under the chipboard pieces.

Add the fussy cut floral pieces

Next came the flowers, again I only used the pink flowers from the selection in the mixed media kit.

I used one of the silver metal frames from the scrapbook kit and added a cut piece of patterned paper to the inside. I then covered the paper with a thick layer of crackle glaze. This was slid into the card layers too.

Lastly I then splattered the paler metallic paint over the entire canvas and tipped the edges of the flowers with the metallic paint too.

Here are some close ups of the finished canvas….

“Paradise” Watercolor Canvas for Mixed Media Monday

Hey everyone Kim here, today I am sharing my project I made with with Mixed Media Kit. If you don’t know about our mixed media kits, let me tell you about them. The kit is filled with not only mediums, but a project so you can use our kits right out of the box.

Here is our October Mixed Media kit. It is filled with Watercolor mediums from Prima.  Watercolors are the it thing right now and our kit is the perfect size for you to try them out. You can subscribe to our kits here.

Check out the kit:

Here is what I created using the kit:

How about some close ups:

Lets talk about the background first. I took a stencil and some modeling paste to make the brick background. Once that was done, I began working with the watercolors.

I worked with the blue and green colors in the palette because I wanted to keep my beachy theme going in the background. I used less water in some areas to keep the color more opaque. In other areas, I used lots of water and dabbed a bit with a wet wipe to lift the color.

I also added lots of water to make sure the colors ran in between the bricks. For my frame, I went over it with the white pearl paint to give it a bit of shimmer. The fence was painted with the soft satin.

All the chipboard got a coat of clear gesso before I used the green watercolor (except the title)on it. It a couple of coats, but I do like the end result.  I also used some metallic rub-ons on the background, instead of stamps. I like the way the metallic blends in with the shimmer of the watercolors and paint.

I used the pink watercolor on my title and added some flowers from the kit. Then I used a few different colors from the watercolor palette to add some splashes to my canvas and called it done.

Hope you liked my little explanation of my Mixed Media Monday project.

Here is my weekly tip: When using chipboard, its always good to cover it with gesso before altering it. I like using clear, that way it doesn’t alter the color of paint or other medium I am applying to it.

“Me and You” Mixed Media Watercolor Panel with Rae

Happy Sunday!

Today I’m sharing my project made with the lovely October mixed media kit. Here’s what comes in the kit.And here’s what I came up with:

I started out by spraying the Prima Marketing watercolor canvas with water, then used a few different colors of the metallic watercolors, also from Prima Marketing, from the palette, creating a large diagonal stripe, intentionally leaving lots of the canvas unpainted.

Next, as you can see in this closeup, I added some script stenciling- this stencil is a 12X12 from Kaisercraft from my stash.

Next, I assembled the design, using a picture encased in the window with shutters (Prima Memory Hardware Venetian Shutters) from my stash, and many flowers from the kit. I also added some die cuts of leaves that I painted with the green watercolor pan.

I also added some of the white Prima Metallique paint to the flowers to soften the colors. I also added the soft silk Metallique paint to the shutters.

I added some splatters of the watercolors, using the colors of the flowers, and then some black and white splatters of India ink from my own supplies.

I also added a title from the scrapbook kit that was in the 13 Arts chipboard set.

“Fun Days” Layout with Rae

Hello, friends!

I’m delighted to share my first project that I made using the October scrapbook kit, which you can purchase here: October Goodness.

For this layout I used the Prima Marketing Misty Rose papers in the kit. I started by adding clear gesso to the papers, once dry, I ripped the “Memorable Floral Wall” paper. I did some stenciling with some crackle paste. Then, I added water, then sprayed both pieces with water, then the 13 Arts Pearl Turquoise spray from the kit. I wiped up the excess moisture with a wet paper towel to expose the stenciling and lighten the color, then I used some brown distress ink around the edges, and glued both of the ripped pieces to the Prima “Scented Love” paper.

In this closeup below, you can see the stenciling detail, as well as the distressed look of the Dusty Attic Chipboard- I used Stampendous Frantage embossing powder in aged copper from my stash to achieve that mottled look.

In the middle, I placed my photo with a mat and cut some elements from one of the Prima papers for some ephemera layers, and made flower clusters on each side of the photo. The clusters are a combination of flowers from the kit as well as some from my stash.

I added the beautiful white applique leaves to both clusters, as well as some leftover die cuts I had from my watercolor canvas that I will be sharing this month. They are cut from white cardstock, and painted with the Prima Marketing Metallic Accents from the October Mixed Media kit.

I also added a title using the 13 Arts chipboard panel- Fun Days, which I also sprayed with the 13 Arts Pearl Turquoise mist.

I added some white gesso to the flower clusters to soften the colors.

“Fearless” Layout with Rae

Happy Tuesday!

Today I am sharing the last project I made with the September kit. Here’s a masculine layout:

I started by ripping the map paper that’s from the Prima Marketing Flirty Fleur collection, the glued it to the striped paper that’s from the same collection. I planned out the rest of my design, then added stamping using a 13 Arts texture stamp from my stash with some Prima Marketing Color Philosophy in in Midnight Blue along the ripped edges of the background paper, as well as areas to show the stamping peeking out from the rest of the design elements.

In my design cluster I added a watch from my stash to showcase the Prima Marketing resin bee from the kit. I added the silver Nuvo Drops from the kit to the clock, then sprinkled some embossing powders over it to give it the mottled distressed look. I added a white flower then placed the bee in the center.

I cut up the Creative Embellishments swirly border, and added some black ink to it, leaving some of it exposed, and placed it under the flowers.
I finished up by adding some of the black gemstones in random areas.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! We hope you enjoyed seeing all of our projects that the design team made with the September kits this month!

“Love This” Layout with Rae

Hello, Friends!

Today I’m sharing my layout I made for the September monthly challenge.  Here’s the mood board for the challenge:

And, today is the last day to enter out challenge. You can find the details here.
And, here’s how the mood board inspired me:

All of those pics in the mood board have so many ornate details, so that’s what I decided to add: many small details! 🙂

I added some black vines that I cut from a older Memory Box die.

I added a doily and some lace from my stash, which was a nice contrast to the ripped paper layers. I also added the Prima Marketing green Say it in Crystals to the tips of the doilies and some random other areas.

In these closeups, you can see that I added splatters of black and white (India ink) as well as some blue- the Prima Marketing Color Bloom spray in Glistening Waves was perfect for the Prima Flirty Fleur collection!

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! We hope you enjoyed seeing all of our projects that the design team made with the September kits this month!

Dinosaur Egg Layout by Ginny

Hello everyone!

This is my last project of the month using the September Tres Jolie Scrapbook kit.
This is quite a fun layout, its still very much shabby chic in style but has a fun edge to it with the photo and words.
Holly was on her Brownie Holiday and we were visiting a dinosaur park in the Isle of Wight. These eggs the children could get into as part of the interactive experience for them… all great fun and a great photo opportunity!

Here is a photo process tutorial showing you how I created this layout…..

I used three 12×12 background papers. The bottom one I kept at 12x12in, the next two I trimmed so they were a cm smaller on all sides then the one underneath. They were all heavily distressed and shabby rips torn into the sides in places.
My photo is layered on a piece of patterned paper also with torn edges. At this point I hadn’t stuck the photo down.

Having decided where my photo was going I added some texture paste and stencilling in the same area so that the stencilling shows around my photo.

I then added the photo and started to build up with a journal note cut from the 12×12 papers and some of the ephemera flower pieces. These are really pretty and eye catching with the foils on them, they really catch the light.

Next I added the flowers, a couple of ‘word’ ephemera and some resin dragonflies.

The green pearl strip I cut up into pieces and added them to my flower clusters wit some of the single pearls.

I added some detail to the dragonflies

with the Silver Nuvo Crystal.

And lastly splashed over some watered down gesso to finish.

Here are some close ups of the layout followed by the products list…..

Products used on this layout:

* Prima Flirty Fleur Collection: Pretty Birds
* Prima Flirty Fleur Collection: Travelling Florals
* Prima Flirty Fleur Collection: Something Floral
