Mixed Media Monday

Hey everyone Kim here, today I am sharing my project I made with with Mixed Media Kit. If you don’t know about our mixed media kits, let me tell you about them. The kit is filled with not only mediums, but a project so you can use our kits right out of the box.

Here is our November Mixed Media kit. It is filled with the new Icing paste medium from Prima.  It also includes 3 sizes of embroidery hoops and canvas. You can create your own mixed media hoops. You can subscribe to our kits here.

Check out the kit:

Here is what I created using the kit:

How about some close ups:

Lets talk about the background first. After I put the canvas on the hoops and decided on which side I wanted to work on, I took the stencil and the icing paste paste to make the background. Once that was done, I began deciding how I wanted to arrange my hoops.

Once I had the arrangement set up I glued my hoops together. While the hoops were drying, I heat embossed my chipboard piece.

I then decided to add a doily behind my frame before I attached it. I just wanted something peeking out behind it.

Now it was time to start embellishing my hoops. I moved my flowers all around until I was happy with the groupings. I made sure I used some dimensional tape under some flowers so they pop off the project. Plus it makes it easier to tuck bits and pieces under them.

After all the big embellishment were done, I started adding all the little details that really make your project. I used a butterfly and some floral ribbon from my stash. The sentiments are also from my stash.

Hope you liked my little explanation of my Mixed Media Monday project.

“Faire des folies” with Annie Carignan

Hello again everyone !

I am sharing today another layout that I made with beautiful November Scrapbook Kit where we had ABStudio gorgeous products, 49 and Market and Prima flowers along with great chipboards from Creative Embellishments.

For this layout I wanted to work with the feathers, which are not something I normally use so this was a little bit of a challenge for me because I never know where to put them !  So I had this idea of using all of them so they would be the focus of my page.

First thing I did was  gesso the background, then I cut little peaces of paper for the top and the bottom that I adhered making a triangle directed to the center and reaching the bottom. I used AB Studio stencil with Paste.  I took the feathers and adhered them from the top to the center, and from the bottom to the center also. I painted them with white gesso.  I put some  Icing Paste to give color just a little and added   the trim lace on top and bottom.  I finished by adding flowers, tags, bird and Art Stones.

Notes & Thoughts … a masculine layout by Ginny

Hello all!

This is my last project this month for the October Scrapbook Kit at Tres Jolie Kits.

I have created a masculine page this time, I know most of the time I stick to the floral shabby chic style layout but I do like to do the occasional masculine layout, especially as I do have a son to scrap about!
I have used a reverse side of one of the beautiful papers in the kit… and I think this layout puts a completely different spin on this kit… looking at the kit photo you wouldn’t think you could create a layout like this but you can!
Its always good to see how these beautiful kits can also be used for masculine layouts – don’t forget the boys!!! LOL

I have photo process below for you to show you how I created this layout.

I started with the reverse of one of the floral 13Arts papers, I do love these black neutral papers, they are so easy to use for masculine pages. I did brush over some clear gesso to prepare the pare for lots of misting!
I used the Ayeeda mist in the kit over the background paper, I sprayed it and also undid the top and flicked the inner tube over the layout to get the splats.

The chipboard I altered using a VerDay Patina set. I used the Bronze colour, painted it over the chipboard and then added the patina solution in different places to create the mottled/ old metal effect over the chipboard. Allow to dry naturally.

Going back to the background paper now its dry, I used the Prima stencil from the kit and added areas of white texture paste over the paper.

Next I splattered a lot of white gesso over the layout, spritzed it with water and picked the paper up upright and allowed all the liquids to ‘run’ on the paper. Dry with a heat tool.

Next I splattered some Color Bloom Antique Gold mist over the background. Again I take the lid out and use the inner tube to flick the colour over.

When dry I then rubbed some Viva Inka Gold over some of the raised texture paste areas with my finger.

The photo I layered up on 3 distressed patterned paper layers, all slightly off set to each other.
I inked the edges up with an archival ink,

Now its time to put the layout together. I placed the photo centrally and added the chipboard words from the 12×12 chipboard sheet – I loved that sheet! I left these chipboard words in their nude state.

The big chipboard scroll I cut into two – basically one piece was 2/3 rds. of the total chipboard piece and the part I cut off was 1/3rd of it.
I then slotted the bigger piece under the photo layers on the right and the smaller piece in the photo layers on the left.

I added more chipboard words on top of the scroll and then added the blue and beige flowers from the kit! It still looks quite masculine though!

I added a little detail with items from my stash, some oval and teardrop druzzy beads and some seed beads. I just drop the seed beads into some gel medium and leave to dry.

I found these teal buttons whilst looking for the seed beads and thought they were perfect for the colour scheme so I added a couple of those under the layers too to finish the layout off.

Here are some close ups of the layout…..

Here is the October Scrapbook Kit …….

…….can you believe this layout came from this kit?!?!? – It did!!

‘Roses’ canvas by Ginny

Welcome to my second project of the month for Tres Jolie October Kit.

Today I thought I would share with you my Mixed Media Kit Project.

This month we had a lovely large square canvas and the gorgeous watercolours from Prima. What a treat to be able to create with these!

Here is the Mixed Media Kit

And so lets look at a few photos of how I created this canvas.

I only used a limited amount of colours from the Metallic Accents set for this canvas. I kept to all the pinks and paler colours through to the grey.
With a wide 3/4 inch paint brush I painted on the various colours one at a time in random spots over the background of the canvas, letting them blend and run together to create a marbled effect. Later I used a smaller brush to add some paint splats.

The water colour paint are so easy to use. I start them off with a spray of water to activate them and use them from the individual pots, I also use the palette tray in the lid, to blend some of the colours together and to add more water to get a really watery mixture going for a ‘wash’.

The chipboard pieces were in the scrapbook kit. These I simply covered with a white embossing powder.

I used the journal card sheet, cut them all up individually, distressed the edges and backed them onto a piece of light 12×12 paper from the scrapbook kit and distressed those too.

I fussy cut these flower clusters out from one of the 13 Arts papers

I splatted some of the metallic paint on the background

Now to layer up the design. I used some cardboard behind some of the journal cards to ‘lift’ them up. This enabled me to slot under the chipboard pieces.

Add the fussy cut floral pieces

Next came the flowers, again I only used the pink flowers from the selection in the mixed media kit.

I used one of the silver metal frames from the scrapbook kit and added a cut piece of patterned paper to the inside. I then covered the paper with a thick layer of crackle glaze. This was slid into the card layers too.

Lastly I then splattered the paler metallic paint over the entire canvas and tipped the edges of the flowers with the metallic paint too.

Here are some close ups of the finished canvas….

Mixed Media Decor with Rae

Hello, everyone!

Today I’m sharing my project that I made using the September Mixed Media kit, featuring this lovely wooden heart decor, Prima Marketing Rust Pastes in Northern Lights, some new Prima Marketing Melange Art Pebbles in Sugar, along with some sea shells and assorted white roses.

Here’s what I came up with:

And here’s how I created this background with the pastes:

The one thing that is critical to using the pastes is if you want to blend the colors, you need to work quickly because they dry fast, or at least in my climate which is pretty much devoid of humidity!

I took the lightest color of the pastes, Powder Blue, and added to each of the wood panels. I knew I wanted this to be the base for the other colors because I wanted them to be lighter than the shades they are directly out of the jar.

I quickly added some of the turquoise paste, making sure it was int he same direction of the wood panels.

And once I added the amount I wanted, I added tiny amounts of the purple paste,

and then blended the colors together.

Once I had the background done, I added a couple of things from my stash to help create a focal point- the resin circle frame, a pice of chipboard shaped like a clock, and some cheesecloth.

You can see the Prima art pebbles under the quote- I added a light coat of white gesso to them to soften them up and blend with the design.

Once I glued the flowers, shells, and art pebbles, I took the purple and turquoise pastes and added a bit of water and gave the flowers a wash of the purple, and I added the turquoise to the shells, and surrounding areas.

Here’s another close up.

The Tides Gone Out – Mixed Media Kit

Happy Friday!!!!

Today its the turn of the September Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie Kits!
And its a fantastic kit, especially as I have made a project relating to my favourite place …. the beach! My thoughts with this project was to create a piece of work titled ‘The tides gone out’.

Below is the contents of the Mixed Media Kit, with this lovely wooden heart from Darice ready to alter.

The lovely yummy goodies included to get messy with are from Prima, I’ve wanted to use these for ages, the Art extravagance Texture Fantasy Northern Lights, and I wasn’t disappointed!

I have used some extra mixed media products to create my textured background for the main kit products to be used on top off .

Here is a photo tutorial of my process in making this project.

I used some lattice chipboard pieces I had left over and painted them with a coat of gesso.

I very roughly painted the Darice Wooden heart so give it a shabby look. I really did splodge the paint on to give a very rough texture. When dry I added a couple pieces of roughly torn corrugated card.

And the pieces of chipboard lattice.

These had a light coat of gesso.
I then tied some string around the heart in two places and tied big loose bows. This is all to add texture and a little detail. Not all of this will show by the time we have finished… maybe only the bow bits.

Next I mixed the 3d balls and the micro seeds with some texture paste.

mixed together to create this….

Using a palette knife I then scraped this over some of the areas where I have been adding texture details.

After that I used another of my favourite products and that is Snow Tex, not just for snow effects!
I added this again with a palate knife and applied this quite lumpy so it dries with a raised look to it.

I allowed all this mixed media to dry before carrying on. The picket fence piece is wood and this was simply glued on.

To give a beachy/ seaside feel I love to use this spongy moss. It adds depth and a natural look to the theme we are trying to create.

The flowers were added next, these blend in perfectly and remind me of the drifts of flowers I see near the coast in Pembrokeshire.

Then it was the turn of the shells! And what a selection of shells there are!
I loved going through these and adding them to the project.
I tried to group them up and laid some on their sides so they looked like they were just laying how they had been left when the sea went out.
I also added the glittery Art pebbles at this point too.

Now for the ‘messy’ bit as I like to call it! 🙂
I put a small amount of each colour in my tray and started work with the darkest colour first.
The first colour I used as it was with no added water……

….. and using a stipple brush I dabbed the colour over the texture places I wanted to start the colour. My idea here is that its puddles and ponds of sea left caught from the tides oing out in the pebbles and shells.
Add a small amount, step back have a look and see where you want more, its completely choice as to how mad you go with these products, remember you will be calming it all down with the lighter colours on top in a minute.

Next do the same with the middle teal colour, using the stipple brush over the top of the dark blue.

I then gently spritzed this teal coloured layer with water to make it ‘run’ a little and then dried it with a heat gun.

The 3rd very pale blue colour I applied with a paint brush, over the other two colours.

When I had finished using the pale blue paste over the project I watered the remainder down to make a ‘wash’

I used this ‘wash’ over the bare top part of the heart.

Lastly I added a quote from one of the papers, cut out and edges distressed with the edges tipped with some of the pastes to blend into the background.

And there we go…… my finished project.

Here are some close ups of the finished project.

September Mood Board Layout by Ginny Hickmott

Hello!!  Ginny here with you all today!

It’s the beginning of the month again and a brand new Tres Jolie Kit!
This one is GORGEOUS!

I loved the neutral colours in the papers with a pop of the green colour coming through. I am not a fan of green but these are subtle and I loved working with them.

The mixed media kit this month is fantastic too, and my project took me back to my favourite place to be… the beach… you can see that project on the 14th…

My first project this month is a layout made with the scrapbooking kit. It is also my LO created for the mood board challenge this month too.

So lets show you my layout….

And here is the Mood Board for this month challenge.

I hava a photo process for you, so here goes….

This LO had a mixed media background, I have used a lot of paint in layers and dried each application of paint as I have gone along with a heat tool. The paint is from my stash and not included in the kit.

I started by painting the background paper with clear gesso. this primes the paper and makes it much more resistant to the use of mixed media and ‘wet’ products to help keep the paper from buckling and being misshapen. Dry with a heat tool.
I then started with my first paint, the DA Mountain Meadow.
There is no neat way to do this… when I say I splat the paper with a loaded paint brush that is exactly what I do! Just make sure your working area is clear of anything you do not want covered in paint!
After splatting the paint on I then brushed it over the centre of the paper a little as in the photo below.
Dry with heat tool.

Next is the gesso layer… white.
I watered the gesso down a bit, 1/3 water to 2/3 gesso, this just makes it splat/flick easier and gives a slightly more transparent coverage….

Again then brush the gesso to cover the centre of the paper….dry with heat tool.

Next the second green, the Peppermint Tea, love that name!
Each application of paint ends up covering a smaller space so you can still see the previous colours. Dry.

Now I added the grey paint and dried again

The next step is the stencilling. This stencil was in the Prima Flirty Fleur mixed pack of flowers, ephemera and stencil.
Using a texture paste add random patches of detail over the painted area keeping it mainly to the outside edges of the paint so I still shows after the photo has been added to the centre.

Paint the creative embellishment chipboard piece with gesso. This may need a couple of coats depending on the coverage you want.

Dry the gesso and then using the Nuvo Crystal drops ‘draw’ along all the flourishes to create a 3d effect Allow to dry naturally.

I decided to add some stamping too. I chose a stamp from my stash and used Black Soot Distress Ink to stamp the details around the outside area of the paint.

Now adhere the photo to the layout. I backed my photo with cardboard to lift it off the background paper. I then glued the chipboard piece over the top of the photo.

I chose some small cutouts from the Prima Papers and cut them into two….

And pushed them into the layers on opposite sides of the photo/chippy.

Now arrange the flowers, slotting some underneath the chippy and some on top.
I put one cluster at the bottom left ‘corner’ and then the top right ‘opposite corner’.

The second cluster, to balance the design of the LO.

Last little details, add one of the Resin Butterflies on top of the chipboard.

And lastly add some of the black glitter gems.

Here are some close ups at different angles to show you the layers.

Mixed Media Layout By Heather Thompson

Hi everyone, Heather here today to share a mixed media layout made with the Tres Jolie Main Kits and some elements from the Mixed Media Kit.

While trying to finish up some much needed holiday albums, I picked a photo of us visiting the the Wreck of 10 Sails. A spot where 10 British Ships en-route to the United States all wrecked on the reefs of the Cayman’s back in 1794.

TJ Layout August 2018

Such simple moments like these do make good memories, it was such a scenic view and the history behind the reef was just amazing.

This layout was a bit more simple for  me, I see layouts that are very elegant with very minimal layers and I wonder if I can try it am actually make something worth showing. So I have been experimenting with a ton less layers than I am used to.

I started with the mixed media kit on the background using various embossing powders. The powders I used were from Lindy’s;

I made a video if you want to follow along with the creative process.

Here are a few close ups

Mixed Media Canvas

Hello all,

Today I’m sharing my canvas I created with the Tres Jolie Kits August Mixed Media Kit.
In the kit you get this unusual triangle shaped canvas, some fabulous mixed media products, a stencil and some Prima flowers!

Let me show you how I went about creating this canvas with the following photo tutorial.

Here is the contents of the Mixed Media Kit.

This is the wonderful range of mixed media products from 13 Arts.
The rainbow colours can be used in a variety of ways, I have used them in a couple of different ways to show you.

The first way I used the rainbow colour was by making my own coloured modelling/texture paste.
I mixed a tiny amount of the rainbow colour into the modelling paste. Start of with a tiny amount, you can always add more to strengthen the colour afterwards.

On the blank canvas I painted a layer of clear gesso to create a good surface to use mixed media.
I then mixed some of the blue rainbow colour with water on my brown craft mat, my second way of using it. I splattered the colour across the canvas and let it run over the canvas to create a washed look like in the picture below.

I let the colour run over the sides so wat ever angel you look at the canvas from you will always some.

I chose some journal cards as my feature to the canvas, and distressed the edges.

Next was the stencilling. I used the pink modelling paste I prepared earlier and using the stencil from the kit I used it over the canvas on the front and also the sizes.

I loved the effect this stencil gave…

Once dry I laid out the journal cards to work out my design.

I decided I didn’t want to keep the flowers white and wanted pink ones.
The third way of using the rainbow colour is to make a mist and put it in a bottle for easy application. Again you only need a small amount of colour powder to mix with water. A bottle is better to keep it in as you can give the product a good shake.

I spritzed over the flowers to make them a pink colour and leave to dry

I then started adding my embellishments. This string type material is from my stash but added a little detail to my embellishments. I added this underneath the flowers.

I then clustered up the Prima flowers I coloured pink, some of the leaves ( left white in colour) and a couple of resin feathers from last months kit.

I added some of the Santorini Say it with Crystals around the canvas.

I left the texture paste stencilled verse free of embellishments around it so it could be easily read as I thought this was a nice erse to read.

Then I used the white ink by splatting it liberally over the embellishments and canvas and allowed it to ‘run’ in places in dribbles.

Lastly I used the blue rainbow colour again by mixing it with water on my craft mat and the painting with it. coloured the edges of the flowers petals like in the picture below.
