Notes & Thoughts … a masculine layout by Ginny

Hello all!

This is my last project this month for the October Scrapbook Kit at Tres Jolie Kits.

I have created a masculine page this time, I know most of the time I stick to the floral shabby chic style layout but I do like to do the occasional masculine layout, especially as I do have a son to scrap about!
I have used a reverse side of one of the beautiful papers in the kit… and I think this layout puts a completely different spin on this kit… looking at the kit photo you wouldn’t think you could create a layout like this but you can!
Its always good to see how these beautiful kits can also be used for masculine layouts – don’t forget the boys!!! LOL

I have photo process below for you to show you how I created this layout.

I started with the reverse of one of the floral 13Arts papers, I do love these black neutral papers, they are so easy to use for masculine pages. I did brush over some clear gesso to prepare the pare for lots of misting!
I used the Ayeeda mist in the kit over the background paper, I sprayed it and also undid the top and flicked the inner tube over the layout to get the splats.

The chipboard I altered using a VerDay Patina set. I used the Bronze colour, painted it over the chipboard and then added the patina solution in different places to create the mottled/ old metal effect over the chipboard. Allow to dry naturally.

Going back to the background paper now its dry, I used the Prima stencil from the kit and added areas of white texture paste over the paper.

Next I splattered a lot of white gesso over the layout, spritzed it with water and picked the paper up upright and allowed all the liquids to ‘run’ on the paper. Dry with a heat tool.

Next I splattered some Color Bloom Antique Gold mist over the background. Again I take the lid out and use the inner tube to flick the colour over.

When dry I then rubbed some Viva Inka Gold over some of the raised texture paste areas with my finger.

The photo I layered up on 3 distressed patterned paper layers, all slightly off set to each other.
I inked the edges up with an archival ink,

Now its time to put the layout together. I placed the photo centrally and added the chipboard words from the 12×12 chipboard sheet – I loved that sheet! I left these chipboard words in their nude state.

The big chipboard scroll I cut into two – basically one piece was 2/3 rds. of the total chipboard piece and the part I cut off was 1/3rd of it.
I then slotted the bigger piece under the photo layers on the right and the smaller piece in the photo layers on the left.

I added more chipboard words on top of the scroll and then added the blue and beige flowers from the kit! It still looks quite masculine though!

I added a little detail with items from my stash, some oval and teardrop druzzy beads and some seed beads. I just drop the seed beads into some gel medium and leave to dry.

I found these teal buttons whilst looking for the seed beads and thought they were perfect for the colour scheme so I added a couple of those under the layers too to finish the layout off.

Here are some close ups of the layout…..

‘This is a happy day’ by Ginny

Ginny here with you today sharing another project using the Tres Jolie October Kit.

This kit features papers from 13 Arts and Prima Marketing with some beautiful embellishments, making this a beautiful kit to work with and to create some lovely pages full of memories! This layout features my DD, another photo from our holiday in Cornwall. We visited Padstow one day and did some crabbing in the harbour. Padstow is famous for Rick Stein’s famous fish and chip shop and restaurant. The harbour was lined with ladies doing hair braiding and of course Holly wanted her hair braided. Holly has really long hair so at a pound an inch it was rather a lot of money! But having said that the braid lasted weeks and so she got her monies worth!!

I love using a mix of coloured and black and white photos on the same layout. The coloured photo on this layout has remained the focal point but then your eye drifts along into the black and white photo. I dont know about you but sometimes I prefer my photos in black and white. Here’s a little tip, if you are struggling to find a photo to fit a coloured scheme or papers, print your photo in black and white and it will go with any colour scheme/papers.

I used lots of layers on this layout. I used 3 background papers. As I added each paper layer they got trimmed down a little smaller then the previous one so about a cm shows of each layer around the edge. All the edges were then distressed.

The photos were layered up on their own distressed mat layer. I used the card frame that came with the Prima flower set and cut the corners up and used these as layers and corners on some corners of the two photos.

You can also see that I did some faux stitching with a pen around the edge of these background paper layers.

The gorgeous lace just runs under the bottom edge of the photos. I cut a small oval of patterned paper to fit the silver frame and glued that it.

The title phrases are also distressed round the edges and had a little Toffee archival ink around the edges. These I curved and glued them onto the layout so they remained in a bowed position like a banner.

I added some of the journal cards as background photo layers too…..

I have added a couple of extra flowers from my stash to this layout as I do love flower overload! The flower clusters were finished off with the pretty lace leaves and the rose buds from the kit.

“Friends” Layout with Rae

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Today I am sharing a last layout I made with the October kit.

I kept this layout fairly simple because I just feel in love with this piece of paper from the 13 Arts paper from the Rose Fields collection. I started out by cutting the paper slightly and distressed the edges. Next, I added some faux stitching using a sewing wheel and a fine point black marker.

I also added some stenciling using a large distressed circle stencil- I added white crackle paste, then painted on some of the 13 Arts turquoise spray from the kit.

Under the picture, I added some of the cutouts from the 13 Arts elements sheet. I used a piece of the Prima paper for a photo mat, and some lace from my stash.

I added to flower clusters, some of the blue ones are from my stash. In this closeup, you can one of the metal frames from the kit peeking from under the photo. I added some of the Prima paper with numbers to it after painting it with gesso and I added some white gold wax paste.

I used a couple of different shades of green chalk ink to the 13 Arts chipboard leaves. I cut them to fit under the flowers. I sprayed the chipboard title with the turquoise spray. I love that the 13 Arts chipboard is white- it cuts out the first step of paint it! 🙂

On the other side of the cluster I added a piece of the Dusty Attic chipboard that I added some white gold wax paste to.Thanks for stopping by the blog today!

‘Beautiful Together’ by Ginny

It’s time for another layout  using our October Scrapbook kit today!

This kit is full of gorgeous papers from 13 Arts and Prima Marketing. For this layout I used the 13 Arts papers.

I loved these 13 Arts floral papers, they are so pretty. The feature background paper I chose was a wood panelled floral paper. I cut the 12×12 paper down by a 1 cm on all sides and then cut along the wood panel sections, distressed all edges and stuck these 3 panels onto my other chosen background paper.

The two title pieces are from the 12 x 12 chipboard sheet.
I embossed these with a white embossing powder.

The leaves are also from the sheet and covered with the white embossing powder.

My distressed edges on the paper I inked with a ‘Toffee’ archival ink pad.
I also used some glass glitter (diamond dust) from my stash and added it in places over the flowers and around the flower clusters to add some sparkle to the layout.

My photo I mounted on a piece of the Prima PP which was of course distressed and inked to.

The photo was then mounted on a piece of cardboard to ‘lift’ it off the layout, this left me somewhere to push my embossed chipboard leaves under. Photos always to me look better if the embellishments come from underneath the photo and some go over the photo, it blends the photo and embellishments together creating a much better effect.

On this layout I tilted the photo, I like this effect, the photo works well for this. The eye is drawn from the main focal point of Holly and I up to the rocks of Lands End in the background.
Lands End is the most southerly point in the UK at Cornwall and was from our summer holiday down there earlier this year.

“Just You” Layout with Rae

Happy Sunday!

Today I am sharing a layout I made based on the October sketch created by Kim:

Isn’t that sketch lovely?

Here’s my interpretation of the sketch:

This 13 Arts “Rose Fields” paper is beyond gorgeous! I adore the different shades of pinks mixed with black and white with hints of green. You MUST get this kit if you are not a subscriber!

I started out with cutting down and distressing the “wood plank” paper so I could see a lot of the black of the first layer, as I wanted to add some elegant black accents and I wanted them to pop.

I added the white lace across the layout as the sketch has that design element, and then built my layers around the photo. I used some Prima Misty Rose paper for a mat, then added it to the gold frame that came in one of the Prima flower packs.I added some stamping to peek from under the right side of the photo, then added some of the chipboard flowers which I inked black.

On the left side of the cluster, I added some cut outs from the Rose Fields paper, and a doily die cut. I added another piece of chipboard that I inked black as well as the title, which I inked using a peachy colored chalk ink.  I just love how much chipboard came int he kit this month! Then I added my flowers and some butterflies from my stash.

Lastly, I added the cluster to the lower left side of the layout, keeping it simple, replicating the colors and elements from the top cluster- black chipboard swirl, flower, and another butterfly from my stash, from the Prima Misty Rose collection.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! Please join us in this sketch challenge this month. Anyone can play along!  https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=oa.275578576627912&type=3

“Fun Days” Layout with Rae

Hello, friends!

I’m delighted to share my first project that I made using the October scrapbook kit, which you can purchase here: October Goodness.

For this layout I used the Prima Marketing Misty Rose papers in the kit. I started by adding clear gesso to the papers, once dry, I ripped the “Memorable Floral Wall” paper. I did some stenciling with some crackle paste. Then, I added water, then sprayed both pieces with water, then the 13 Arts Pearl Turquoise spray from the kit. I wiped up the excess moisture with a wet paper towel to expose the stenciling and lighten the color, then I used some brown distress ink around the edges, and glued both of the ripped pieces to the Prima “Scented Love” paper.

In this closeup below, you can see the stenciling detail, as well as the distressed look of the Dusty Attic Chipboard- I used Stampendous Frantage embossing powder in aged copper from my stash to achieve that mottled look.

In the middle, I placed my photo with a mat and cut some elements from one of the Prima papers for some ephemera layers, and made flower clusters on each side of the photo. The clusters are a combination of flowers from the kit as well as some from my stash.

I added the beautiful white applique leaves to both clusters, as well as some leftover die cuts I had from my watercolor canvas that I will be sharing this month. They are cut from white cardstock, and painted with the Prima Marketing Metallic Accents from the October Mixed Media kit.

I also added a title using the 13 Arts chipboard panel- Fun Days, which I also sprayed with the 13 Arts Pearl Turquoise mist.

I added some white gesso to the flower clusters to soften the colors.

Best Memories by Ginny

Hi all,

Its the start of the month with a brand new kit to share with you from Tres Jolie Kits.

This one was gorgeous and I thoroughly enjoyed creating with the gorgeous 13 Arts papers.

The colours were vibrant in places and as you will see later tin the month I have done a masculine layout from the kit too.

Here is my first layout for the month and it is also my interpretation of the sketch. It is, I admit, quite a loose interpretation but this is where I ended up in my process of following it!
I hope you like it!

Here is this months challenge sketch.

The next few photos show you my process in creating this layout.

I loved this patterned paper with the black background and was my first choice of paper to use from the kit.
I also chose the frame from the embellishments to match to the sketch design.

These are the flowers and chippy pieces I chose to use from the kit.
I have added some other flowers from my stash to create the flower overload that we all love!

I mixed some pink acrylic pink in with the texture paste to create my pink texture paste

I used this pink paste to stencil my background

My chosen photo I slipped inside the frame

I used the pink texture paste on the chipboard swirls as well. I built it up in places to create a think layer very textured layer.

The title chipboard I covered with a white embossing powder

I also added some white texture paste stencilling on the background

The photo and frame are popped up on cardboard so I could add flowers underneath the layers which creates depth and makes the layers stand out more. I built the flower layers up with the pink chippy swirls layered up with them.

Lastly I added the title chipboard pieces gluing them on top of the flowers.

Here are some close ups of the layout

Mixed Media Canvas

Hello all,

Today I’m sharing my canvas I created with the Tres Jolie Kits August Mixed Media Kit.
In the kit you get this unusual triangle shaped canvas, some fabulous mixed media products, a stencil and some Prima flowers!

Let me show you how I went about creating this canvas with the following photo tutorial.

Here is the contents of the Mixed Media Kit.

This is the wonderful range of mixed media products from 13 Arts.
The rainbow colours can be used in a variety of ways, I have used them in a couple of different ways to show you.

The first way I used the rainbow colour was by making my own coloured modelling/texture paste.
I mixed a tiny amount of the rainbow colour into the modelling paste. Start of with a tiny amount, you can always add more to strengthen the colour afterwards.

On the blank canvas I painted a layer of clear gesso to create a good surface to use mixed media.
I then mixed some of the blue rainbow colour with water on my brown craft mat, my second way of using it. I splattered the colour across the canvas and let it run over the canvas to create a washed look like in the picture below.

I let the colour run over the sides so wat ever angel you look at the canvas from you will always some.

I chose some journal cards as my feature to the canvas, and distressed the edges.

Next was the stencilling. I used the pink modelling paste I prepared earlier and using the stencil from the kit I used it over the canvas on the front and also the sizes.

I loved the effect this stencil gave…

Once dry I laid out the journal cards to work out my design.

I decided I didn’t want to keep the flowers white and wanted pink ones.
The third way of using the rainbow colour is to make a mist and put it in a bottle for easy application. Again you only need a small amount of colour powder to mix with water. A bottle is better to keep it in as you can give the product a good shake.

I spritzed over the flowers to make them a pink colour and leave to dry

I then started adding my embellishments. This string type material is from my stash but added a little detail to my embellishments. I added this underneath the flowers.

I then clustered up the Prima flowers I coloured pink, some of the leaves ( left white in colour) and a couple of resin feathers from last months kit.

I added some of the Santorini Say it with Crystals around the canvas.

I left the texture paste stencilled verse free of embellishments around it so it could be easily read as I thought this was a nice erse to read.

Then I used the white ink by splatting it liberally over the embellishments and canvas and allowed it to ‘run’ in places in dribbles.

Lastly I used the blue rainbow colour again by mixing it with water on my craft mat and the painting with it. coloured the edges of the flowers petals like in the picture below.

If you are interested in receiving the mixed media monthly kit then follow the link for subscriptions in the link list below.
