Mixed Media Butterfly with Rae

Hello and Happy Saturday!

Today I’m sharing a project that I made using the June mixed media kit.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about how awesome this kit is! The Prima Marketing resin butterfly pack is BEAUTIFUL! And those alcohol ink colors are so pretty! Here’s what I came up with:

There are two large butterflies in the set, and for this project I used the one with indentations on the wings. I mixed the Ranger Texture Paste and the 13 Arts Magic Powder to create a light fluff. I filled each of the holes half way with the mixture, then added some loose pearls from my stash. Then I added some of the 13 Arts brown microbeads to fill in the visible spots of the mixture.

Once dried, I added the alcohol inks. First, I added the patina color to the entire butterfly, then I added the browns to the pearls.

The color was pretty bold, so I toned the blue down with some white gesso. Then I added some copper wax paste to highlight the texture and give it a distressed, aged look. You can see the details in this close up below:

I decided to add this butterfly to the stand that came in the resin butterfly set. I primed the metal part and the wood circle with gesso. I added a couple of metal flowers from my stash as well, then brushed the entire piece with some of the alcohol inks over the gesso. I added some more texture paste to the middle and poured more of the brown microbeads to it so it filled the metal. I used some of the green rhinestone strand from the kit to the wood circle. Lastly, I added some copper wax paste like I did to the butterfly.
