“#beautiful” Layout with Rae using for the Mood Board Challenge

Hello, and Happy Wednesday!

Today I’m sharing a layout I made for the Mood Board Challenge using the July kit.

Here’s the mood board:

I chose to use some of the Lemoncraft Violet Silence paper that had pink flowers on it to coordinate with the hot pink Kaisercraft flowers. I was inspired by the polka dot fabric in one of the mood board pictures, so I repeated the use of circles by adding a circle stencil, a doily, a piece of Lemoncraft flair, polka dot paper, and adding dots to the chipboard frame (from my stash) and some purple and green berries (also from my stash).

I tore apart the 49 and Market ivory flowers and added the Kaisercraft hot pink flowers to make those pink flowers POP. I also added some pink chalk ink to the ivory flowers.

This closeup below gives a good view of the paper layers, and shows how the flower cluster and leaves, as well as the pink lace chipboard are a contrast to the softness of the hues of the papers.

The frame under the picture is a Dusty Attic chipboard frame from my stash, but really, any oval frame would do the job here. I painted it white, added some purple pigment ink for a distressed look to blend with the papers, and added accents with the Nuvo drops from the kit. If you haven’t had the chance to try Nuvo drops, you NEED to! They are self-leveling, so they will dry dimensional, but not uneven.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today! I hope you get a chance to join us for the mood board challenge! You do not have to be a subscriber to join the fun, but if you wanted to use the July kit, there are still some available HERE.

Altered Paint Brush with Rae

Happy Saturday!

Altering paintbrushes has been a real trend in the scrapbooking world for a while now, and Tres Jolie kits has an amazing mixed media kit this month that has a brush and A LOT of embellishments and mixed media to make your own! Check it out:

I just love how much mixed media you get- with white, black and clear gesso, the possibilities of different looks are abundant, combined with three different mica powders to boot!

Here’s the brush I made using the black gesso with all three colors of the mica powders.

I started my brush by gluing on a bunch of the embellishments. I did add a few items from my stash- the circles art Melange art pebbles from Prima Marketing.

For the next step I added two coats of black gesso, and letting it dry completely. Then I mixed up a batch of each color with water and gum arabic to create a permanent color on the black gesso.

On the bottom of the brush, I added the purple mica powder/water/gum arabic mixture. I could have let it air dry, but I wanted to give the bristles on the brush a worn texture, so I used a heat gun to melt the bristles.

On the side, I added the pink color. The colors mixed together nicely on the front of the brush, but I liked how this concentrated pink came out.

At the top of the brush, I added the blue mica mixture. I decided to not add as much mica on the circles because I wanted them to stand out. I added some pink wax paste to the circles after I finished applying all of the micas.

And, lastly here is a closeup to show how the mica colors blended together.

I’m anxious to get some more cheap brushes so I can try out the micas with the clear and white gessos.

And, great news: we still have a few mixed media kits available, so if you haven’t subscribed, you still have a chance to get an altered brush mixed media kit HERE!

Mood Board Challenge layout By Ginny Hickmott

Hello all,

Welcome to the gorgeous July Tres Jolie Kit!

It’s a beautiful kit, I love these papers from Lemoncraft and the pretty purple colours in them!

Today I’m sharing my layout I created based from the mood board challenge this month.
This mood board was gorgeous too! I based my layout using the top right photo on the mood board keeping to the paler colours. More details on the challenge at the end of this post.

Here s the mood board…. who cannot get inspiration from this
!?

I loved the wood panel paper and distressed the edges heavily and inked with a sandy brown ink pad.
I backed this paper onto a plainer lilac background paper. You can see I have used a stapler to fix the top paper to the background paper. This is a fun different way to attach papers together and adds a little different detail to the layout.

I used paper distressed edged paper layers of various size oblongs to back my photo on. These were all inked as well and layered up using the doilies. The doilies are cut in half so I do not waste any unnecessarily put under the other papers but just the cut edge slipped under a paper. I used some washi tape from my stash just to add a little more butterfly detail.

The 49 & Market flowers are just divine. And the leaves that came with them are super too!
I clustered these up together using the rule of 3, to balance the layout.

I added some small drops of Nuvo to the leaves and used the badges in the clusters too.

Products used on this layout.

From the Kit:

* Lemoncraft: Violet Silence Paper collection
* 49 & Market: Shimmer & Shine Flowers: Lilac Jardin Secret
* Nuvo Crystal Drops: Buttermilk
* Lemoncraft: Violet Silence: Buttons/Badge
Doilies

From my stash:

* Prima Marketing: washi Tape
* Versofine: Archival dry pigment Ink: Toffee

There is a sheet in the kit absolutely full of butterflies! Perfect to fussy cut out and add to your flower clusters like I have on my layout. The only problem is choosing which ones to use!

I hope your inspired to join in with this mood board challenge this month with us!
Simply create a layout with inspiration then from the mood board, and add a photo of your finished layout onto the Mood Board Challenge Album on the Tres Jolie Club Café Facebook page.

Mixed Media Canvas by Ginny

Hello All!

Here is my last project made with the June Kit from Tres Jolie Kits.

This is my second project made with the Mixed Media Kit….. a canvas.

I thoroughly enjoyed doing this project, it was so much fun!

So lets go through step by step and I can show you how the end result was achieved!

I started by painting the 5×7 inch canvas with clear gesso

I used the two brown Alcohol Inks from the Mixed Media Kit, Caramel and Latte.
I added a blue, Stonewashed and a mixative, Gold, from my stash as well.

I sprinkled droplets of the two inks, Caramel and Latte onto the canvas.

I then used some blending solution over the ink droplets to make them ‘run’ and blend together.

This solution was also from stash but is handy when working with alcohol inks.

This is what the canvas looked like after the blue and gold had been added with more blending solution.

I cut the leaves and flowers from 13 Arts paper……..

like so…..

and the flowers….

I then used the texture paste from the Mixed Media Kit with a stencil to add more detail across the layout.

To adhere the fussy cut leaves and flowers to the canvas I used a gel medium and used it underneath and over the top of the cut pieces to completely stick them and protect them on the canvas.

The butterflies from the Prima set I did slightly differently to each other. The big butterfly I painted the concave parts with the gold Mixative. the smaller one I gently rubbed the gold over the risen pattern only wit my finger.

Then using a piece of cloth I then gently rubbed in some of the blue alcohol ink around the risen borders of the butterflies in various depths of strength.

I glued these to the canas with my hot glue gun.

Next I used these Microspheres from the Mixed Media kit….

a poured/sprinkled them where I wanted them into already applied gel medium.
The medium will take a while to dry but will dry clear leaving just the microspheres.

Like this…

And I created a butterfly trail with them too!

Thus erse was cut from the paper I showed you earlier too and I inked round the edges with the gold mixative.

I popped it on a piece of cardboard to add height and glued onto the canvas.

And here is the finished canvas.

Sketch Challenge Monday

Happy Monday everyone, it’s Kim here. Today is what I’m going to call sketch challenge Monday (later to be renamed challenge Monday). I’m going to reveal my take on the sketch.

Here is the sketch:

Here is my take on it:

Of course I used our gorgeous June kit which just revealed here . It’s filled with beautiful papers from 13@rts and Prima. Plus fun embellishments from Creative Embellishments and more Prima goodies.

How about some close-ups:

I took the frame and turned it on it’s side. I also embossed it with some Lindy’s embossing powder. I did a bit of background stamping.

I used a couple different sized flowers in my cluster. Plus I stuck the watering can in there. I loved the look of it. I added some lace to mimic the lace in the sketch. The words were cut from the die cut piece of paper.

This is my smaller cluster in the lower left had side of the page. I built it around the water pump. More background stamping, a flower, resin feather and word cut from the die cut paper.

Here is my little tip for the week: I have found that Lindy’s Flat Fabio C’est la Vie Cerise and Lindy’s Starburst Mist Tibetan Poppy Teal are great matches for the papers in this kit. If you have those in your stash try them out.

I can’t wait to see what you guys create based on the sketch. Don’t forget to load your entries in the sketch challenge folder here , so you will be eligible for the prize.

June Scrapbook kit layout with Ginny……

Hi Everyone!

It’s Ginny here with you today and I am going to share with you a layout I have created  using the June Tres Jolie Scrapbook kit

I loved these 13 Arts papers in this kit especially the darker neutral  coloured papers.

I used two of the papers for this layout, ‘Cold Days’ and ‘Days & Nights’. I also used the ‘All Good Things’ paper to fussy cut the feathers out from.

I used the darker paper as my background paper and tore the lighter one create the band across the middle.

You will see in the close ups I used a few other bits of fussy cutting around the layout too.

I wanted to create a dream catcher effect with the fussy cut feathers and combined it with the Prima flower vine to create this effect.

On the background I used a little texture paste, from the Mixed Media kit, with a Prima stencil.

I love the little watering can from The Prima Shabby Chic Treasures set.

I love the coloured water splats that are on the background of the lighter background paper, I arranged my layout to make sure I could see some of these in my design.

This cluster is fussy cut out of the ‘All Good Things’ paper and slotted behind my photo.

The photo I layered up on a roughly torn piece, that is just slightly bigger then my photo, from the other paper paper collection in the June Kit, Prima – Vintage Floral – Pink Promises. This was then mounted on a piece of cardboard (or use foam pads) to lift it up off the background papers to add a little definition.

I finished off by adding a couple of little paper flowers and the fussy cut leafy sprays.

13 Arts: Until Dawn: Days & Nights
