Believe Altered Box with Rae

Hello, friends!

Today I’m sharing an altered box I made with the September scrapbook kit.

If you are anything like me, you save all kinds of boxes for scrapbook projects. This is one that had some skincare products. It was perfect for this kit because it was already a matte black, so no prep work was required.

I started wit the inside of the box. I plan to use this box, so I kept the design to a minimum inside. I added pieces of the Bo Bunny paper to the sides and bottom of the box, only adding some black chalk ink.

For the inside top, I added the same Bo Bunny paper, but I didn’t have enough for the whole thing, so I cut the scrap in half and added it, leaving a blank area in the middle, then added a piece of the Prima Marketing paper for a nice contrast.

I also added one of the silver frames that came in one of the Prima Marketing flower packs, as well as some flowers from the kit, and some flowers from my stash.

The appliques and vellum with script are also from my stash. I completed the design by adding some of the Prima Say it in Pearls items.

For the outside of the box, I kept it simple as well. I added the striped Bo Bunny paper to all 4 sides, and added a knob from my stash and flower where the magnet that closes the box is.

For the top of the box, I ripped a piece of the Bo Bunny and a piece of the Prima Marketing paper. I added black chalk ink to all sides of both of the sheets.

The cluster includes a doily, piece of script vellum, as well  as the Creative Embellishments chipboard frame, the bottom layers and which I added embossing powder to for an aged effect. I also added an applique from my stash.

I added many flowers, and a quote which I took from the Prima Flirty Fleur journaling card from my stash. I completed the design by adding some of the Prima Say it in Crystals border, tucked in between the paper layers, a black resin butterfly from the kit, and some black and white splatter of India ink.

Hello everyone ! Here I am again with another layout for September Kit 🙂

I wanted this layout to be mostly Black and White.  That is why I chose both sides of a paper from BoBunny (Lace). I put a little bit of Turquoise Paint and flowers to go with the Ephemeras (Prima) and the circles that I cut from a Prima paper (Traveling Floral).  Behind the photos I used the frames that come with the flower packs also from Prima.  I used here and there the stencil from another flower pack with Modeling Paste.  I cut the chipboard in 2 pieces and painted it black and Turquoise.  I added embellishments (Black resin Butterfly) and flowers cut from a paper (Traveling Floral).

Here are some closer details :

Material used :

Prima Flirty Fleur – Traveling Florals
Bo Bunny Black Tie – Lace
Resin Wood in a box – Butterfly
Prima Flirty Fleur Ephemera
Prima Flirty Fleur Flowers – Goldkiss
Prima Flirty Fleur Flowers – Minty Sprinkles
Creative Embellishments – Swirly Border
Darice – Self Stick Gems (Black)

See you soon with another post, where I will show you what I made with the card kit 😉

‘A Fun Ride’ layout with Ginny

Hi everyone, Ginny here with you today.
I’m back on the Tres Jolie blog again with this layout created with the September kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club.
This layout used loads of layers to create a really detailed deep effect with a mixed media background.

Here are some close up photos with a few details of the layout.

The mixed media background is acrylic paint brushed over the centre of the background paper.
I used white texture paste with the stencil and added it to show out around the sides of the layered papers in the centre.

I used a selection of the papers from the kit to create my paper layers. I used various colours that contrast each other and yes, as usual they all have torn edges. I layered them up off set against each other.

I used some Splash! Ink splattered in the background and added the cute peg with a piece out of the ephemera glued onto it. I love the modern effect that some of the ephemera pieces give the layout against the shabby chic style.

The frame was with one of the Prima flower sets and was the perfect size to work well with my photo.

I added some of the black glitter gems and some enamel drops too.
The blue roses I toned down a little by gently brushing them with gesso to get a softer colour to them.

I added one of the cute resin peices and chose the bee to sit in my flower cluster.

Just a note, when layering up paper layers, layer some up with foam pads or cardboard in-between and some without, this adds an irregularity that gives a really good look and also spaces to slide embellishments in-between.

Mixed Media Decor with Rae

Hello, everyone!

Today I’m sharing my project that I made using the September Mixed Media kit, featuring this lovely wooden heart decor, Prima Marketing Rust Pastes in Northern Lights, some new Prima Marketing Melange Art Pebbles in Sugar, along with some sea shells and assorted white roses.

Here’s what I came up with:

And here’s how I created this background with the pastes:

The one thing that is critical to using the pastes is if you want to blend the colors, you need to work quickly because they dry fast, or at least in my climate which is pretty much devoid of humidity!

I took the lightest color of the pastes, Powder Blue, and added to each of the wood panels. I knew I wanted this to be the base for the other colors because I wanted them to be lighter than the shades they are directly out of the jar.

I quickly added some of the turquoise paste, making sure it was int he same direction of the wood panels.

And once I added the amount I wanted, I added tiny amounts of the purple paste,

and then blended the colors together.

Once I had the background done, I added a couple of things from my stash to help create a focal point- the resin circle frame, a pice of chipboard shaped like a clock, and some cheesecloth.

You can see the Prima art pebbles under the quote- I added a light coat of white gesso to them to soften them up and blend with the design.

Once I glued the flowers, shells, and art pebbles, I took the purple and turquoise pastes and added a bit of water and gave the flowers a wash of the purple, and I added the turquoise to the shells, and surrounding areas.

Here’s another close up.

‘Too Cute’ layout by Ginny

Hello everyone! Ginny here with you today!

Today I am sharing another layout made with the September kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club. This one is made with the Bobunny papers in the kit.
I really enjoyed making this one, it came together really quickly and i loved these photos of my DS from what seems a very long time ago! He is now a teenager!

Here are some close ups with some details for you……

I created layers with the papers, adding a floral details paper to the more neutral black background paper. All paper layers had torn edges. I highlighted the pale blues by using a coordinating piece of cardstock in the layers to make the colours ‘pop’.

I used the ephemera tags and journal cards to add more layers. I cut them in half and then slotted the top half of the cards I the top of the layers and the bottom of the cards into the bottom of the layers. This makes your ephemera go further and balances the design. I layered a lovely piece of lace into my paper layers too.

I scrumped up some cream embroidery thread behind my flower embellishments to add a different effect. The chipboard piece I simply painted with gesso and then dropped some of the blue pigment in places along it to add a little coloured detail to it. Whilst this was all still wet I dropped some colour coordinated seed beads on to it to finish off.

I used some Splash! white ink splattered in the background and added some of the pearls.

Products used from the kit:

* Bobunny Black Tie Affair – Lace
* Bobunny Black Tie Affair – Black tie Affair
* Prima Marketing Flirty Fleur – Little Notes
* Prima Marketing Say it in Pearls – strip green -#530518
* Creative Embellishments chipboard – Flourish Border
* Prima Marketing Flowers – Flirty Fleur #634483
* Prima Marketing Flowers – Flirty Fleur #634551
* Prima Marketing Flirty Fleur Ephemera
* Nuvo Crystal Drops – Silver Lining

Products used from my stash/ previous kits:

* Coredinations Cardstock – Powder Blue
* Ayeeda Ink Splash! White
* Gesso – white
* Seed Beads
* White Lace
* Embroidery thread – cream

You and Me by Annie Carignan

Hello everyone ! I am sharing today my second layout and this time it is for the Mood Board presented this month :

These colors are just perfect with this month’s kit! On top of all Mint is one of my favorite colors.  I was inspired mostly by the palette and also the time clock.

I started with a coat of clear Gesso on all of the surface. Once dry I used 3 different shades of Turquoise watercolours.

In the meantime I embossed the beautiful chipboard with Embossing Powder from my stash.

As you can see, I cut the chipboard into peaces so I could put use it on both sides of the photo and at the right bottom.  I used some clocks from my stash and added beautiful flowers.

I wanted to keep it light so I painted the cute butterflies from Prima with White Gesso.

Material used :

Scrapbook kit:

Prima Flirty Fleur – So Lovely
Prima Flirty Fleur – Traveling Florals

Prima Say it it Pearls – Green
Resin Wood in a box – Butterfly
Prima Flirty Fleur Ephemera
Prima Flirty Fleur Flowers – Goldkiss
Prima Flirty Fleur Flowers – Minty Sprinkles
Nuvo Drops – Silver Lining
Creative Embellishments – Flourish Circle Frame

The Tides Gone Out – Mixed Media Kit

Happy Friday!!!!

Today its the turn of the September Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie Kits!
And its a fantastic kit, especially as I have made a project relating to my favourite place …. the beach! My thoughts with this project was to create a piece of work titled ‘The tides gone out’.

Below is the contents of the Mixed Media Kit, with this lovely wooden heart from Darice ready to alter.

The lovely yummy goodies included to get messy with are from Prima, I’ve wanted to use these for ages, the Art extravagance Texture Fantasy Northern Lights, and I wasn’t disappointed!

I have used some extra mixed media products to create my textured background for the main kit products to be used on top off .

Here is a photo tutorial of my process in making this project.

I used some lattice chipboard pieces I had left over and painted them with a coat of gesso.

I very roughly painted the Darice Wooden heart so give it a shabby look. I really did splodge the paint on to give a very rough texture. When dry I added a couple pieces of roughly torn corrugated card.

And the pieces of chipboard lattice.

These had a light coat of gesso.
I then tied some string around the heart in two places and tied big loose bows. This is all to add texture and a little detail. Not all of this will show by the time we have finished… maybe only the bow bits.

Next I mixed the 3d balls and the micro seeds with some texture paste.

mixed together to create this….

Using a palette knife I then scraped this over some of the areas where I have been adding texture details.

After that I used another of my favourite products and that is Snow Tex, not just for snow effects!
I added this again with a palate knife and applied this quite lumpy so it dries with a raised look to it.

I allowed all this mixed media to dry before carrying on. The picket fence piece is wood and this was simply glued on.

To give a beachy/ seaside feel I love to use this spongy moss. It adds depth and a natural look to the theme we are trying to create.

The flowers were added next, these blend in perfectly and remind me of the drifts of flowers I see near the coast in Pembrokeshire.

Then it was the turn of the shells! And what a selection of shells there are!
I loved going through these and adding them to the project.
I tried to group them up and laid some on their sides so they looked like they were just laying how they had been left when the sea went out.
I also added the glittery Art pebbles at this point too.

Now for the ‘messy’ bit as I like to call it! 🙂
I put a small amount of each colour in my tray and started work with the darkest colour first.
The first colour I used as it was with no added water……

….. and using a stipple brush I dabbed the colour over the texture places I wanted to start the colour. My idea here is that its puddles and ponds of sea left caught from the tides oing out in the pebbles and shells.
Add a small amount, step back have a look and see where you want more, its completely choice as to how mad you go with these products, remember you will be calming it all down with the lighter colours on top in a minute.

Next do the same with the middle teal colour, using the stipple brush over the top of the dark blue.

I then gently spritzed this teal coloured layer with water to make it ‘run’ a little and then dried it with a heat gun.

The 3rd very pale blue colour I applied with a paint brush, over the other two colours.

When I had finished using the pale blue paste over the project I watered the remainder down to make a ‘wash’

I used this ‘wash’ over the bare top part of the heart.

Lastly I added a quote from one of the papers, cut out and edges distressed with the edges tipped with some of the pastes to blend into the background.

And there we go…… my finished project.

Here are some close ups of the finished project.

Card Monday

Hey everyone, Kim here. Today I am sharing some cards I created with the Card, Tags and more kit. I am not the best card maker, so it is always challenging for me. However, with this kit my cards came together pretty easy.

First, let’s take a look at the kit:

The kit has a 6×8 paper pad with 24 sheets of paper. Plus 2 different sizes of cardstock, flowers, a 4 piece die and hand dyed seam binding.

Here are my cards:

How about some close ups:

For this card, I did a peek a boo with 2 different sheets of paper. I tore the top one on a diagonal, distressed the edges and let the bottom sheet peek thru. I also did some faux stitching on the edges (designer Rae taught me this technique).

I also used the smaller die to cut a frame to slide under my ripped paper. Added some flowers, leaves and cheesecloth from my stash and called it done.

For my next card, I layered 2 sheets of paper. I again distressed the edges. I also cut out a banner from the bottom layer of paper. I added more flowers and ribbon, plus a sentiment sticker and it was done.

These were 2 very simple cards I created using elements form the Card kit. They didn’t take very long to create and I am happy with how they turned out.

That’s all I have for today. Thanks for stopping by.

Happiness by Annie Carignan

Hello everyone !

I am so happy to share with you my very first reveal as Guest DT for this month ! Let me walk you through the process of this layout :

First thing I did was applying Clear Gesso on the surface.  Once that was dry I used the small stencil included in one of Prima’s flower set (isn’t that a great idea they had?) with Paste on the papers.

I took some aquarelle Mint paint from my stash and put some on the paper as you can see on the photo. Then I took some Ephemeras and papers from the kit and started to put everything in place.  I just LOVE the frames included in Prima’s flower sets !!!

Here are some close-ups :

Material used :

Papers :

Prima Flirty Fleur – Something Floral
Prima Flirty Fleur – Little Notes
Bo Bunny Black Tie – Serenade

Embellishments :

Prima Say it it Pearls – Green
Resin Wood in a box – Butterfly
